  • Actually got out tonight for first time since the chest infection, 5 miles easy , but don't think anything is easy in 28 degrees!!!!

What with the calf strain earlier and this chest infection training gone a bit to pieces so think I need to reassess target. As it's my first marathon, just to get around will be good and think I definately be joining  your train Wrexhamrob. (although Winchester is a bit far away to join any pre event runs image

And.... finally entered this race.  Just started 12 week P&D.

    Will be my 2nd marathon.

    Hello again Runny Knows!

15mi for me today. May take an extended early lunch break and do it then - try and avoid the worst of the heat.

Nelly - well done on your run...and good luck with the further recovery. You need to get back into training slowly and surely...don't panic and do too much too soon otherwise you'll just get injured again.

I have followed a pacer only once at Manchester...not sure how even the pace or effort was, but found it much easier to just concentrate on keeping with him and not worrying about anything else.

  • Nelly- well on run good luck with recovery.

Im going to go with pacers and if I feel really good in last 4/6 miles will move on.

went out with club runners last night. Track session pure agony!!!!!!! I know they work and are good for me but boy do they hurt. Easy 3/4 mile recovery run forme tonight.

  • Hello!!! Entered this as my first marathon and am so glad others are hating the heat. image

I got up at 3,30 to fit my 20 miles in on sunday before it got too hot and just hope it doesn't last too long........if it is anything like this on 6/10 I will register as a DNS!!!!!!!

good luck to everyone in their training...

5.7 recovery this morning and an easy paced, hard effort 12m tonight- took 500ml water and still managed to lose 3lbs in weight during the run!

3.30am?????  I don't know if you deserve admiration or pity RB

  • jason djason d ✭✭✭

    RB,!! Top effort!image

3.30am!?! Good grief...that is commitment! Bet you were tired later!

My 15 yesterday went ok...usual too hot and sweaty business.

Hopefully the heatwave will end soon - hopefully with a bang in terms of massive thunderstorms. I like thunderstorms. Current forecasts though are for next week to be HOT!

  • 15West15West ✭✭✭

Oh...and as I know you're all desperate to know my running for today...will be 7mi easy...actually no such thing as easy in this weather...so 7mi tough run.

  • NykieNykie ✭✭✭

I'm so envious of all of you doing all this running! I'm currently injured but trying to cycle instead. Waiting to see a specialist in August.

  • I did the Chester last year as my first Marathon and loved it, i did a respectable time of 3hr 50mins, but hit the wall at 22 miles....i know i can beat the time by about 10 mins and i know where i went wrong, but havent got the guts to train again for a marathon, im sticking to half marathons for now!.....unless i get into the London that is!......then i will be hitting the streets with some force to beat the pain of hitting the wall!......

  • Lisa123Lisa123 ✭✭✭

Hello Chris and enter again, go on, just to prove that you can beat your time image

Am sitting at home waiting for the temp to drop below 30c before I head out for my easy paced 11 miles, if it doesn't drop then quite frankly it won't be 11 miles that I run.

Thunderstorms sound luverly at this precise moment.

  • Great run tonight. Steady paced 5.5 miles. No running for me until Sunday's trail marathon. Really looking forward to it, great scenic course and several of us running as a group. Going to go at a nice easy pace all the way and enjoy scenery, food, and company. Use as part of my Chester marathon training in terms of miles/time out.

well done to all on running this week, going to cool down at weekend so that might make it easier for us all.

5.6m recovery this morning and 8m in 28 degrees tonight- 5lbs lighter by the end and to add insult to injury I got stung right in the armpit by a wasp half a mile from home. Food tonight was going to be lamb koftas and salad, but the koftas had gone off- cheese, salad and lime pickle. STROLL ON TOMORROW!imageimage

  • Lisa123Lisa123 ✭✭✭

Well I managed my 11 miles after all, and its the first time that I have stuck to my plan this week so thats a bonus.

Stephen enjoy your race on Sunday, hope the weather stays kind to you and it is not completely scorching.

Jason - do you follow a paleo/low carb diet as I do although at the moment I am getting loads of comments about me needing to eat more carbs if I am going to be able to train and run a marathon - be interesting to hear your views on this. I have been paleo (although I have dairy) for a couple of years now.

  • Some good running going on here despite the weather.

8 @ MP last night and it was a struggle, really not looking forward to tomorrows planned 18 ... am thinking of taking a leaf out of RunningBagel's book and getting up early (although maybe not THAT early) to get it done before it gets too hot.

  • 15West15West ✭✭✭

Morning all. 13mi for me today...will be a lunchtime run and will be hot. Ugh.

Early morning runs definitely best bet in this weather...if only I wasn't just a lazy arse (and I wasn't tasked with being the morning dog walker and child breakfast getter). Saying, that...should be a bit cooler over the weekend (still hot...but not silly hot).

  • jason djason d ✭✭✭

Lisa- hi! Fairly low carb, although I still have iso and gels when racing. Following a train low, race high philosophy. More primal than paleo with dairy featuring- especially cheese and yoghurtimage Working so far-  managing 3 figure weeks on it and have lost 2 inches from my waistimage Today a typical day- 5.7m recovery, turkey omelette breakfast, green smoothie with a bit of cheese and yoghurt for lunch, evening run followed by Zoodle Puttanesca ( 'noodles'/ spaghetti made from julienned courgettes. Snacks along the way to include pork scratchingsimageimage

  • 15West15West ✭✭✭

I eat a high carb, high fat, high protein diet.

  • No admiration....just pity especially by the revellers being picked up by taxis as I run past... Feel everybody else's heat pain. Seems as though the weekend predicts cooler things so fingers crossed image

7 mile tempo this morning, back before the heat so it felt ok. OH helping out at an ironman tomorrow..... Eek can't imagine that kind of marathonimage

  • Lisa123Lisa123 ✭✭✭

Jason good to hear that you more then manage perfectly well. I have read the primal blueprint its a good read, and food for thought and I lost 2 stone by following it image .

15w, if only I could - without turning into a complete lardarse image.

Runningb - was it another really early/nocturnal run? Well done on getting out there as whenever it was it was probably a lot earlier then I would venture out for, being a bit of lazy arse - 6am is my limit.

Rest day for me today which basically equates to BBQ and wine. Planning either Parkrun or 7 miler with strides tomorrow, need to decide which at some point.

  • 19 miles in the bag early doors ... thankfully the sun hasn't burnt through the clouds yet, so whilst it wasn't overly hot hot, the cloud cover certainly made it a lot more humid so was dripping with sweat by the end , so am now going to spend the rest of the day re-hydrating on the sofa watching us thrash the Aussies

  • Lisa123Lisa123 ✭✭✭

Opted for the 7mi with 8 x strides, thought that it would be best to follow the plan for a change.

18 miles planned for tomorrow, it will be my longest run ever so am hoping that it doesn't get too hot image

  • Good luck with the 18 miles  Lisa 123. I am hoping for 21 tomorrow morning. Each long run is the longest ever for me so end up looking like a salty mess at the end..... Whoever knew salt came out of chins?

cloud cover here too so hopefully won't suffer the horrors of sun on face for 3 hours.

  • compo 1compo 1 ✭✭✭

hope it is cool tommorrow going to do a long runimageimage

  • 15West15West ✭✭✭

Morning all. Hope everyone's long runs went ok. Mine was "just" 16mi this morning. Went ok, weather not too hot or sunny this morning here in Manchester, and a nice breeze too.

  • jason djason d ✭✭✭

Hi All, flying visit while I am in Tesco and have internet access! My router has died at home and have to wait 3-5 working days for new one to arrive From Orange....
