Re the Austria entry timing, surely it isnt beyond the whit of man (or me) to get to a computer or have someone ready to enter for you when the entries open?
Perhaps we have an official back up UK race for those who dont get an Austria place i know there is "history" with IMUK but the team have changed so maybe Bolton could be a good back up choice
Personally I could see us doing IMUK as an official championship one year now that Messrs Boon have moved on. That said its going to be at least 2016 before it could come round. I still prefer abroad as it changes the nature of the event and creates a much more engaging dynamic.
Im not sure about the official back up race tag, what does it mean? does that mean we have an official back up event every year, how many more arguments will that take to agree etc?
Did those doing Lanza, Outlaw, IMUK, Switzerland etc this year feel deprived or would have felt differently if they had been classed as official back up?
Personally I think that it's not beyond the wit of us to be able to log on to a computer the evening after Nice (as per your previous commment, Barley.)
I don't understand the back up option either, it's either the champs or it's not. Outlaw seems to be the default second group outing anyway, back up or otherwise.
I think a lot of Newbies are missing something by choosing the default Outlaw option every year. Rocking up to a local B&B on a Friday, no dodgy Euro dib dobs, bike packing etc, for me it just misses a big chunk of what makes an event special.
I can fully understand travelling to an overseas branded Ironman is more expensive etc but you only do a first Ironman / Iron distance once. While Outlaw is a brilliant event its not on the same page as Germany, France, Roth etc.
Yes I know you could argue they then have the door open to move the challenge on and experience the European/International event atmosphere but... argh, horses for courses I suppose.
I think my point is that as Austria is a fast sell out it might be prudent to have another race that pirates as a collective could enter lately that seems to be Outlaw to ring the changes IMUK might be fun
Not to be confused as that years championship of course
As a supporter, I must say I *love* the Foreign Sailings. It's just not the same over here, people scarper after the race, don't arrive until the day before, not in the same place....the whole "being together" thing is what it's all about for me. Yes, you might not get on with everyone but Barley's right about people missing out. Lanza this year was a small group but it was such a great trip, you really get to know people well. The first IM we "did" was IMCH '09 and it built a base for many friendships. I know it's expensive to go abroad but we do know that every year we will be doing a trip, so we save for that (and yes, I know we are lucky we can affod to save too). I was really happy that Raf, Pingu & Slag came to Lanza, embracing the Sailing Spirit, as I've not been abroad with them before.
So, I guess what I'm saying is, "more Euro disco beat trips" please

Some of us problems doing anything (except getting to the bar....again) at 11pm the day after the race last time But I have delegated responsibility for this already.

For me .. I think it has to be a Euro race rather than a UK based one

I think id delegated responsibility of staying awake
For what it's worth I think the PSOF Championship should be a branded IM event.
So Copenhagen gets my vote.
