Apparently Gordan Ramsay is entered into Kona world championship, is this the norm for Ironman? Ie celebs getting places? Im pretty sure he hasn't qualified...
Various crappy celebs get into kona... At least people actually know who he is... But I agree should qualify like everyone else, but its just going too be for the press of the event.... Especially after the Armstrong fiasco
I saw this and wondered, too. He is a fit bloke so I did wonder if he'd qualified. If he didn't I think it's pretty poor letting him in just for the coverage.
I think he will probably do ok at it, not sure he has got in via 12 im's and a lottery place would be lucky and doubtful... But who knows, can't find much detail on his entry on google just he is doing it.
Should he be there? Well first and foremost 'Ironman' is a business and they will do what they think is good for business. 'World Championship' well not really when challenge events et al don't count for qualification and you can get in through a draw. Can you imagine there being draw places in the olympics.
Is he fit enough? Who knows. He certainly has the determination to build up a multi-million pound business and if that were easy we'd all be doing it. Not sure if it's relevent but he's also run 5 Comrades marathons, although he DNF'ed two of them. He certainly has the funds to throw at it.
Whether he should be there or not doesn't doesn't interest me much-the motives of 'Ironman' are much more interesting.

I can see from a publicity perspective, I suppose its similar to VLM in that way. I thought for Kona it would be different

He's talked a good ironman for years not aware he's done one yet
Agreed, I'm not at the pointy end of qualifying but if I was and not quite there I think it would grate a bit.
Where's my fucking bike? Hop to it, you fucking tossers!
true KK and unless you had a large celeb type ego you would probably not take the place, reackon he will swear his way round the course?

Don't forget there are other ways to gain entry to Kona other than *qualifying* eg lottery places or legacy ballot places.
I haven't seen any articles about this so don't know what his reasoning is for doing Kona; just raising the point that it's not for qualifiers only

His PB is 3:36, LA Marathon 2010
Does fitness relate to speed? You can be fast and very unfit. My husband can run faster than me but I'm massively fitter than him
Maybe he'll swear at a marshall and get DQ'd.

Apparently he did Taupo I like the "gruelling" 4.5 hour bike ride
I ran next to Ramsey at London at few years ago for about six miles, never swore once and was alright to chat too

How come there's no results for him in New Zealand
