It was worth getting up at 5:30 and leaving the house at 6am ... by 7am it was already pretty warm . Anyway, 13.2M done, bringing up 45 miles for the week.
I've got a bit sidetracked was doing speed work to try to get down to sub 4:30 but that's all gone a bit to the wayside lately, so it's just a case of getting around for me will be happy with Sub 5h but secretly still keep thining wonder if I can do the sub 4:30 oh well i'll find out in a months time
I know what you mean. I had that pressure for 4:30 but decided i couldn't do that and train for the over event i'm doing (my first ultra next week) and i ended up messing up the training for both, going to fast for ultra but still not long enough for the ultra
So i'm stuck now just wanting to get round the Ultra not caring at all about time, and then really wanting sub 4:30 for Leicester but knowing it's highly unlikely. Heck my official best is only 4:56 so if I can beat that I shouldn't grumble. But, i'm a bit annoyed with myself as i've got stuck in the middle between two different plans and just not done what I wanted
a few months ago i was running 15-16k at around 6 minutes per km and was happily thinking i'm going to get sub 4:30 but now hey!! who knows.
Last year I took a female friends race number after she was forced to withdraw due to injury, and I ended up being declared 9th lady! Needless to say, I was suitably embarrassed. I ultimately got my comeuppance because recorded a PB, that I have never been able to match since, which is attached to somebody else’s name. I guess greed can be its own reward. So I will be back this year, but this time I have paid the entry fee, and am running under my proper name.
I bough a pair of Asics Gel Lyte 33 for the race, but am having second thoughts cos they're a bit wobbly and I'm worried what might happen when the leg strength fades...
Remember if you are planning a pb in Leics there is a nice steep hill for most of the last km so you might want to be an extra few seconds ahead before then, it's quite hard work mind you Leics was my first and I found downhills a lot harder than going up them in the last few km
My relationship with this event has always been turbulent.
In my first attempt I finished with a time of 4.00.10.
In my second attempt I set a PB of 3.34 under somebody else’s number, which I have never been able to match since, a sort of ironic punishment for trying to cheat the system.
6.25m at marathon pace but bad foot/ankle flared up. Think I'm now on enforced rest until the marathon. Was hoping sub 4:30 now I am just determined to beat my pb of 4:56:13 determined to get below 4:50.
Hello. I am running this - it's my first marathon (eek) and I'm aiming to go below 4hrs. Good luck to everyone on here taking part!
I just had a question which had been already mostly answered (booktrunk- thanks) and just wanted some clarification. From the map it looks like there are some off-road bits. Are these still stable/concrete? [just trying to avoid twisting my ankle on mud/dirt/grass paths] Thanks in advance folks!
From what I remember it's all concerete, you do through the water park, but even then it's all on proper roads. might be 100m of something else to prove me a liar but 99% usre it's all road type surfaces. When you run by the A6 or A56 whatever it is for around 1k I think you can either run on the grass verge, or on the edge of the road as it's coned off. So I think the choice is yours there?
I am signed up for this. I'm booked into a hotel a couple of miles away. Do you know what the parking is like around Victoria on the Sunday? Trying to work out whether its best to park at hotel and walk/get taxi or drive and park nearby. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks.
ran 5k this morning, said I wasn't but could not resist as it was such a good day outside. Ankle felt slightly sore after for a few minutes but is fine now.

Looks like I'll be running Abingdon instead - good luck with Leicester!
Cheers Dr D. Good luck with Abingdon, I'm sure you'll do great.
So..... Leicester Marathon how is everyone doing?
Done all your long runs or one left?

So, come on everyone how's it going?
...two more long runs for me, then a 3 week taper.
Training has gone pretty well (...with a slight lapse on holiday - but I counted hill running during my time on the Isle of Lewis as double miles!).
Looking forward to it now, although slightly nervous about the pressure I'm putting on myself to break the 4:00hr barrier!

HAHAHA sorry Ben I shouldn't laugh!!

Hi everyone - I just took the plunge and registered for the race. How y'all doing? 3 weeks and counting!!!
Hi Forumites
Last long run yesterday, 24-miles in the bank.
Taper-time starts here.
I will be using the Ely Monster Racing Ultra as my last long training run.
I bough a pair of Asics Gel Lyte 33 for the race, but am having second thoughts cos they're a bit wobbly and I'm worried what might happen when the leg strength fades...

Probably best to use a tried and tested pair.
I still cannot get over the fact that a marathon is now only just over 50% of my longest run. still giggling to myself.
Don't worry, you will have stopped walking like a penguin by Thursday.
Yeah booktrunk it's easy to start fast! Think I managed 10K pace for the first mile the first time I ran it!
That hill in the last K is pretty tough. Pedestrians to worry about too . At least once that's done its only a few 100m to the finish...!

@Ben:
They're tried and tested now - 20miles in them on Wednesday as my last long run. No worries at all.

If you get there around 8 it was fine last year, but no guarantees
Thank you
Thank you booktrunk! Good luck with the last week, the ankle and the race!
Thanks.
