The best thing about October is that it is the start of the Brussels sprout season.
Mmmmm ... sprouts .... don't boil them to death, shred them and quickly stir fry and mix in a little creme fraiche or sour cream immediately before serving.
Surprisingly easy to scoff a whole 500g bag when they're cooked like that ... yum.

I thought this was going to be the 'get them on to boil now, they'll be ready for Christmas' thread
They're also nice roasted
Sliced and layered with lasagne sheets, chicken and other veg.
Parp!
Or just left outside with the rest of the compost.
I made brussel sprout soup once. It was lovely.
Mmmm, sprouts. Steam them gently, the fry them off quickly in sesame oil with some bacon bits. I love sprouts.
I quite like raw sprouts!
Or braised in white wine.
Just don't boil them to death!
Ooh, that sounds nice, must try it.
Muttley Jnr cannot stand the sight of sprouts. He is a poor deluded lad. So they're all for me. Toot toot!
The braising in white wine sounds nice, I meant. Didn't we have an edit function once?
Isn't there some sort of rule that you shouldn't start on the sprouts until after the first frost of the season?
Love sprouts, especially with gravy. I always eat them first and they're a nice size so satisfy my OCD tendencies on both counts.
Made a curry with them once
You can't beat a few Brussel sprouts on your dinner plate.
Remember, a sprout is for life, not just for Christmas.
Haha good one
They'd go a bit mouldy after a while though. Best just for Christmas
Sprout soup is very nice and they are supposed to taste sweeter after a frost as do parsnips. For some reason they also seem better bought on the stalk, or that could be my imagination. Sprout tops though, they are fantastic, really tasty.
parboiled, then finished off in a frying pan with butter, chestnuts and pancetta.
Some great ideas here. I've been writing them all down.
Sprouts Curry - there's a thought.....
Sprout curry ... even I would hesitate before taking on a plateful of that
Lol
I love sprouts
Sprout curry. That sounds like 2 farts for the price of one. Count me in!
