hey all im planning on doing a Edinburghs 10k in May next year (31 weeks) my friends and i are talking about doing it as a group. the problem is 1 of my friends can run 47mins 10k and really fancy pacing him the whole way - do you think this is possible in this time scale

Maybe. The main flaw in the plan seems to be that your friend also has 31 weeks to train, though.
Have you run a 10k before. If so, what time? Also depends how old you are - speed leaves you as you get older.
It completely depends on what you can do now and what sort of training you plan on doing before the 10k.
i run a sub 60 about 5 years ago and now train 2 nights a week at rugby and play on a saturday im still only 26
i found the edinburgh 10k in july this year hard, but i am a novice and it was my 1st 10k in 2 years but done it in 1hr 3mins, did the middlesbrough 10k in september in 53mins i put it down to better fitness and a less harsh course
Was that the Bupa run Blakey or the Edinburgh Marathon Festival? i hear its different routes
it was the bupa run bear, started at the holyrood park then round the city
ahh i think the EMF one is around Holyrood Park and Duddingston Loch
