  • first run in ages today - didn't feel too bad considering it is about 2 and half weeks since I last ranimage really needed to get out and away from the family too. OH never understands that sometimes I just need a few hours on my own. Anyway he has reluctantly taken the kids off to the cinema and I am going to chill a bit on my own. If I don't manage to snooze I may go for a walk or to the gym and do all my physio prescribed exercises there

loads of idiot drivers around here, and specially where I live as there are loads of old folk that really shouldn't be driving anymore....One day at about the time all the kids were walking home from school OH saw a guy driving along, going up on the kerb etc, finally came to a stop and OH walked over thinking the guy had been taken ill, but no he was totally drunk! I think OH turned the engine off, and then some shopworkers came and got the guy out of the car and called the police...

  • Glad to hear that you're mostly ok Buttercup. I must admit that I avoid school run/rush hour riding when possible as everyone seems in such a rush then and not focussed on their driving. Agree totally about drivers underestimating bike speeds though.

ElBeanpole - a car driving student with membership at DL (I presume - West Bridgeford and a swimming pool being the clues) and you don't think you can afford a bike?!? It would be worth going to Leisure Lakes at Breaston, they have some second hand bikes and if they know what size/sort you're looking for would give you a call if they had something similar coming in or heard about one for sale.

If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.
  • beanpole - I can second the recommendation for leisurelakes bikes, I got mine from there, I had no idea about bikes and they sorted me out, put the cleats on the shoes etc and set the bike up, not a scientific expensive bike fit, but I have had no problems at all with the set up

  • Oh Buttercup - glad to hear you are okay and just a bit of stiffness.

Thanks everyone for the congratulations, I will keep you posted as to how we do with the awards.

The ultra is in two days and I have headache, tiredness and general stiffness - so I reckon the taper madness is doing usual job image

Buttercup - I did my first tri at Dorney and I have to say it was a lovely venue. The traffic free course made it so worry free.

  • image Chili good luck with weekend kid out of interest whats your number just in case we can track you.

  • Buttercup, that race will be on my possible list, as may be on holiday then.

Mcscully, if it is the same town nicknamed Deadahead, how do you manage to swim in that hot water of that pool with a the crazy current that pushes you sideways at one point. I tend to go to the other much cooler pool a bit further away as it makes long sessions much more bearable.

  • Good luck Chilli.

  • Hi Cake - There are only 150 of us running and I am number 94. We don't pick up our bibs until the day so can't be completely certain the number is correct. Don't think there is a live feed though.

  • That's a long way to go for a short tri Buttercup!

    Have a good run Chili.

If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.
  • The best bit about the tri is the lake, it is shallow and clear and the lane ropes for the rowing are left in so you can sight underwater if near the ropes 'cos they are a few feet underwater and on top, so the swim can be quick. I did a 3k swim there in 2011.

  • Glad your ok Buttercup, sorry to hear the bike took a bash, at least you left the driver with something to think about.

Lumpty and me are not duathlon ing on Sunday, my chest has got worse and Lumpty's not feeling too great, a bit p###d off about it as there's supposed to be rain and 70mph gales, that's the best weather to race in.

best of luck Chili, hope you smash it image

  • JP - sorry to hear you and lumpty aren't well, it is a pain missing an event

buttercup - can't make that weekend - think it would be too far anyway - but my son is playing in a concert all day that day

  • Ooh someone really needs to invent a turbo trainer that allows free wheeling! My thighs are killing and I only did 40 minutes...

    Go for it chili!

  • Hey Buttercup, hope you ok Mighty Mouse! Sounds thoroughly pants. How's the bike? You would be bored at the Womens Only Tri. It is expensive for what it is. I might be there due to my sister in law wanting yo give it a go. It was my first tri but having done others since certainly not my favourite.

Good turboing Pete! Fun isn't it!

Good luck for the weekend Chili image

Get Well soon LumptyJ and JP. Always irritated missing events. You still feeling ok Maths? Enjoying half term?

Woke up this morning to a very sore back and raging headache. Painkillers got me through work but no chance of the bike/swim intended. Annoyed as first session in 3 weeks missed.

oh by the way, can anyone recommend a decent turbo? i'm seen afew that appear to be at least half decent but obviously recommendations would help image

  • Dan, I have a Tacx one, not the base model but nowhere near the top of the range. Think it was about £120. I was recommended it for my budget and its sturdiness.

I went to swimming this morning, but then appear to have done very little since.

  • morning,l yeah feeling better but still fatigued, went to swimming this morning but took it easy

Dan I have this one: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/elite-crono-fluid-elastogel-trainer/

I think quite a few others on here have the same one, had it for over  a year now and very happy with it

  • steadycj - same place then... it's only a backup pool if waterpolo is cancelled, agree too hot... also use early morning Sat sessions down the road but need to get there more regularly!

  • McScully, nice to know there is another local person. It was a good session this morning down the road at masters and triathletes, it seemed to click and everything worked well including my kick which is usually missing. Waterpolo, ooh that sounds too rough and tumble for me, although it gives you at an advantage when it comes to the mass washing machine starts in open water swims.

  • nice bike ride with the kids, got back and my front tyre is totally flatimage can't find any of the numerous puncture kits we have..... at least it happened at the end and I didn't have to walk home

  • oh, what do you all wear on your legs to cycle in over winter?

  • Long bike pants image I have some bibbed ones on order - for a while there my short rides to work were thermals under my capri length bike pants.  Having not gone to pump/spin session this morning I have done nothing at all - am climbing the walls a bit tbh.  In other news it's got quite windy outside now image

  • are the bibbed ones comfy? are they easy to get up and down for loo stops? I am thinking they could be a real pain if you have loads of layers on top when it is really cold

  • Dont know yet image haven't got them yet but there are plenty of non bibbed ones on wiggle - have also realised TFN is down the road from work - eeeek!!

  • I have bibbed 3/4 trousers. They are mega comfy. Very rarely need a pee stop when out on bike so not had to deal with that. Tend to put all but jacket inside the bib bit anyway.

Nothing done today either. Back and head still sore and on nights now. Hopefully pop to gym after shift if ok. The extra hour may make me overtired image

Thanks for the info LMH and Mathschick, I'll take a look

Where is DL? I go to Roko, it's fairly costly but a lot better than the Uni gym on offer and working 20-30 odd hours a week covers my costs for stuff like thatimage I'll buy a bike after my early November birthday image

5 mile steady run today, all good apart from the usual tibialis posterior pain

Early November birthday you say Beanpole...mine's on 4th. image

I had a plan to do parkrun this morning but last night went late so doubted it would happen and it didn't...image

  • mikasa - my son's birthday is also on the 4th November...he will be 13. He has been behaving like a teenager for a couple of years thoughimage
