Hopefully I haven't left it too late but I would appreciate a mentor to help me complete Outlaw 2014. I'm based in the Lake District and have done a half IM and a couple of marathons. Intend on doing the Fink training plan and am hoping for 13 hours although telling my friends 14 so I don't look too silly if I am not up to it!
HI I am based in the Forest of Dean, close to Monmouth and oftem work up the Usk valley round Crckhowell and Brecon. If any body would be interested in helping me with my training or even just going out for some long rides and runs.
I have entered IM Wales for Macmillan and it is the first Tri I have ever entered.
Plannig to follow the Fink intermediate plan but will be getting in some miles over the winter to bring up my fitness level before the start of the 30 week plan.
I'm happy to be a mentor if anyone thinks I could be of use. I have one IM distance race under my belt (Forestman 2011) and quite a few events at HIM, Olympic etc although for the last year or so I have not done a tri but focused on cycling and time trialling. Planning on going back to triathlon next year and hopefully entering at least one IM distance race.
I've made most of the common mistakes in the past so happy to tell someone how crap I was / am.
Whearbouts in Surrey, Wheez? Which tri club are/were you a member of? There's a good few pirates about these parts. I'm Epsom, but we're all over the county.
MTRI email recieved and I will reply once I get the little man to bed ( a two year old who has eaten too much Halloween chocolate and does not want to got I bed)
Wheez, I am also in Surrey and am a cake fan. I'm considering Forestman for my second IM, also did the New Forest half last September, is it tough as nails?

Hi Kate. Well, the swim is flat
I really liked the bike course. Not flat, but rolling in parts with some sections that are quite exposed so can be hard work if it's windy. Only one hill of note and it's very short. The run is something else. Pretty, but very tough, but then most runs at the end of an IM are tough. If I were to do it again and hopefully one day I will I would definitely run on hills / trail more. I'm a member of Kingfisher Tri and live in the surburian utopia that is Chessington.
KateF - I've done quite a few RNF races (inc the Sept Middle you did), this years FM bike loop (and next years ?) is similar in terrain to the middle dist, the FM run is the same bit out to the ridge (via the road), but then laps of the ridge. The new run route for the middle distance this year was tough, but the FM stays on the ridge.
I'm looking at going into duathlons and am a complete newbie to running and biking racing events. It's actually my first timed race (a park run) tomorrow! It would be nice to have a bit of swim advice too but I'm very keen to compete in duathlons.
A bit about myself, I'm 21, at uni in Notts, 6 foot 4 (hence the name) and have a background in semi-professional football - so won't be starting from scratch, I am already quite a fit person just need to turn myself towards endurance.
A few warnings if you do want to help me out:
1. I can literally discuss training/nutrition etc all day every day. I love it. Don't worry about telling me to shut up because if you don't, I never will
2. As a newbie I don't have an excess of knowledge, but want to, so be prepared for a lot of questions!
Anyone who is happy to drop me a PM or reply on here
Ay up Pole just in case the mentoring thing on here is set up for ironmans so you might get talked into stuff. I can help with the running/cycling part and can give some advice about the swimming. Just sent you my e-mail afraid the pm messaging thing isn't working that well at the moment so might not get your reply. e-mail us chuck if you want.
Thanks Gaz, I am unfortunately in North Cumbria. I have joined Arragons Tri club and am going to their swim training which is a help. I am going to go on my first club ride tomorrow, hopefully I won't be left behind too early!
KateF - i think thats the same run route as the FM. The Tritalk folks rave about FM, its not the sort of race that would appeal to most Pirates though. I only race 1/2 IM distances but would consider FM if I was going to race longer.
KateF - its supposed to be slightly eaiser than the Middle Distance but obviosuly is double the length, it certainlt cant be twice as hard as the Middle. It never usually sells out, so you can enter nearer the time. I might do one of the other distances, but will probably do the Swashbuckler instead which is 2 weeks later.

Right, sold TR. I'm doing Cotswold full in Aug which is completely different so hopefully will feel easier by comparison.
Whats the FM out of interest?
forestman i would guess

Cake - Forestman, there are some films of it on YouTube or on the Race New Forest web site. http://www.racenewforest.co.uk/the-forestman-22nd-june-2014/
Yup, FM is Forestman, I've entered and Mr F is doing the Boskman 3/4 distance.
What does that mean? !
