Following my London rejection, I'm considering other marathon options for spring 2014.
Edinburgh and Liverpool look like the most likely.
Gone slightly off Edinburgh after seeing that the route is out of the city and doubles back on itself from mile 10 onwards.
Anyone got any experience / info on the Liverpool Marathon on 25 May? The official website is a bit short on info. - no route map etc.
Any advice gratefully received!

I thought that marathon had gone tits up?
The link is here - http://uk.competitor.com/liverpool
sounds like a new one.
Route is secret so far but the organisation seems to put on decent races elsewhere.
I liked Edinburgh personally - I'm too busy running to remember to see the sights.
"This unforgettable course will feature a flat and scenic tour of the city centre, starting and finishing at the iconic waterfront, and passing many famous landmarks that showcase the city’s natural charm."
Given that one of the nails in the coffin of the last Liverpool Marathon was the waterfront finish I'll be interested to see where this actually goes. From what I've read so far on the Echo's website there is more to this than meets the eye.
Does anybody know how legit this is? Would love to do a marathon in Liverpool, but the lack of detail is concerning. Thanks
it will be legit because it is abig company with a good proven track record.......
I think i will be doing it as an excuse to visit son
I post on a site with a lot of American's and the consensus there is that the Rock N Roll marathons are excellent events. It seems a large and well established brand in America
With regards to the waterfront finish, they hold a night time one in Las Vegas which closes down the main strip for a Saturday night and I think the Edinburgh half they do is all in the city centre (unlike the marathon there) so they do seem to have a track record of convincing cities to close roads
Great, appreciate the confidence. They do look fantastic events, I just get nervous!
I and OH signed up! We going to love it! Liverpool is fab and will come a few weeks after Manchester in which I am going to do my best but this one going to be 26.2 miles of party!!
I've just found out one of my favourite ever bands are headlining a festival on the friday before this. In keeping with the rock n roll theme, I'm thinking that a day ticket can;t hurt too much...
The city council wrecked the last Marathon because the finish couldn't take place on the waterfront as it would upset the shop keepers and cause too much disruption to the city centre etc etc. We all knew it was LCC rubbish at the time, & guess what ? As if by magic we now have happy shop keepers who don't mind the start & finish on the waterfront. What's more we have a staggered half & full start so we are guaranteed a steady stream of starters & finishers from the half start at 8 through to the tail end marathoners well into the mid afternoon. Don't get me wrong I'm thrilled we have our marathon back, but what has changed in the minds of the city council to allow this large rich franchise run the marathon in 2014 ?
Course has been posted. Hope it's not too windy on the last few miles.

Half course? Is marathon two laps??
@Bev - use the filter above the map to change to Marathon course. Its not 2 loops.
I'm in for this, course looks pretty decent, although they seem to have kept the mentally tough part of Sefton Park late in the course as per the previous marathon!
Does the half seem to be the same course as the standard Liverpool half? Been a while since I ran it.
MovingAlong.....Thank you ! DOH!!
Course now on line and looks ok. Last 6 miles is flat, so this may help. Just entered and hoping it will be a good one after the excellent Chester 2013 Marathon.
I'm waiting to see if Berlin is definately out the running before I commit to this but this is probably my 2nd choice for my annual marathon next year
