Hey guys, I'm planning a family vacation to the UK (not before Aug 9th) but can't seem to find any interesting races around that time frame of any distance. Would love to find a fun half marathon or even a full if it's in an area I can justify as a side trip. Otherwise a fun 10k in one of the key tourist areas would still be memorable. Any thoughts?

Hey KZod - have a look at the events listings. There are a few around London (Enigma Running in Milton Keynes, Thames Meander in Richmond) so you'll not miss out.
Emmy, Thank you very much. Neither of those appear to have a date set so early so they don't show up in the event calendars yet. Enigma seems a little difficult to get to from London, but Thames Meander sounds brilliant (woo hoo, my first time using brilliant in it's English form!). Strange that the official distances are longer than a standard marathon or half but sounds like a lot of fun.
KZod - where are you originally from?
I'd also check here: http://www.100marathonclub.org.uk/new/events/uk_marathon_list.shtml for a list of all UK marathons. They'll be published with as much information as possible but you'll need to check back. Most of the time the summer calendar should be up 3-4 months in advance.
If you want something memorable try Race The Train in Wales which is on the 16th Aug. Did it this year and was superb.
!:47 to do 14 miles cross country? Yikes. Doubt I could do that. Probably 5-10 minutes too slow. Do most people really manage to beat the train? The timing probably works better for that one, but would need to look at travel logistics of stopping there between London & Dublin or vice verca.
I don't know of any races that take in London, Scotland and Ireland. Must be quite difficult logistically.
There's the Burnham Beeches half marathon in August. It's not too far from London, and you get the use of a swimming pool afterwards.
and it's a lovely run through wooded areas too
