  • Morning Malcs!

Have tracked down your new thread ... Mwah ha ha ha! Congratulations once again!! Now do some running!! image

Look forward to following your progress!

  • MalcsMalcs ✭✭✭

You were an absolute superstar last year Sarah. You have set the bar so damn high I don't think anyone will ever reach it! I'll settle for just getting within sightimage

I'm sure you know all too well how we're all feeling. I remember wondering whether they would have to sedate you last year given how excited you were. Now I know why!

I will be very grateful for any hints and tips you can provide! image

  • Congratulations Malcs. You were my my only vote this year image

Not to mention the loan of your pink calf guards!  It wont be the same this year if we don't see them, so Malcs should definitley borrow them!

Xyloid - lol image She already has me running in a dress at TR24 - surely that's enough humiliation but what the hell, in for a penny....

Tenjiso - image Great to hear from you, how the devil are you?

Thank you so much for voting, I am honoured - that explains why we didn't see any of your traditional "my vote can be bought" messages image

    How is your running going?

  • Cheers Malcs. I'm having an awful time TBQH, hence lack of posting. Just hoping 2014 brings much better luck.  I'm still running and trying to follow P&D again, since it worked so well last year. It's difficult, though, at the moment.

I assumed you were paying the same amount for votes this year? image I'll keep an eye on the post.

  • MalcsMalcs ✭✭✭

Sorry to hear that. Is it Injuries? Motivation?

Yes, usual price - assume you're still the same shoe size?image

  • Malcs - you're going to be brilliant!! No tips - just enjoy it!! You can do without sleep, right?image

Ha ha Xyloid! There are a few of us doing TR24 this year. Will have to persuade Malcs into a pair of neon pink socks!! image

Trying not to dwell on things - just way too much to cope with. Running helps with de-stressing, if only temporarily.

Good luck with your training. Sam and Steve are brilliant and have been my vicarious coaches for the last couple of years image

Yeah Malcs, can you pick us all up a pair on Sat please?

  • Malcs,

Have already said it, but again well done. Looking forward to seeing the programme, and getting tips from everyone, as feeling the yearning for another 26.2 next year (not that i've told Mrs K image)

Tenjiso- sorry to hear things not so good just now. Hope it all works out for you. Admire you doing P&D- too much running there for me...

Thought I'd better show my faceimage

I am so looking forward to following this and hope I can derive some motivation myself from it. Have had a pesky cold/flu all week and done next to nowt! Oh well.

Can't wait to see the reports from the Asics store trip and, secretly, mighty jealous.

Anyhow, as RRR says - get some running done!

Let us know once you've scheduled some races in and I will try to do some as well. be great to see some familiar faces as well.

  • Congrats Malcs. Look forward to following your journey.image You are so going to smash it!

Malcs - I just posted this on our old 2013 thread in response to Mr Puffy. Thought you might like the challenge!

Mr P - this has always worked for me. Train believing I can run 10 minutes quicker! If I find on the day that I have to go back to my original target it seems easy!

Honestly, most people that struggle to get under 3:30 are capable of running 3:20. They just need to train a bit faster. They are usually capable of that but no one has told them. It's all about belief.

I am nowhere near Sub 3:30 at this point but I will train for 3:15. if I fall short and run 3:25 I won't be too disappointed.

I'm old and pretty slow now so running fast is hard work. if I can train at those faster paces anyone can! Honest!image

Most people have the capability of running sub 3:30 if they have the desire and are prepared to train for it. For me, it's all about deciding how hard I want to train, pick a target, set a plan and stick to it. It's possible to make quantum leaps with that strategy - hence Malcs knocking 26 minutes off last year. I will be surprised if he doesn't run under 3:25!

  • blimey already a hive of activity on here Malc! Can't wait to hear about the shopping trip soooo jealous!! image

DS2 - read the above post, I'm on it like a car bonnet! have the desire image

Malcs, today's how not to train for your 3.30 marathon.

Don't try and cram in your training if you miss a couple of weeks.

I missed a couple of weeks due to snow and a rugby injury in 2010 and instead of easing back into my training I just tried to ramp it straight back up and got injured (again!) I now plan my training to start a couple of weeks early to give me some room for manoeuvre for when life interferes.
  • This has to be a safe bet for busiest Asics thread!!! Will have to form an orderly queue to post when the training finally begins!

Let the fun and games begin, nice shiny kit to start!

  • so.....where are the piccies of the shiny new kit image

hope you have had a great day image

Ten - glad you have the running to help. Hope things ease for you soon.

Jen - I think they only sell such things at specialist outfitters. They hand you shades on the doorimage

Clive - many thanks indeed! I'm looking forward to seeing the plan too - excited and a little bit scared image

DS2 - what time do you call this then?image Nooooo, you can't be ill again? You're not having alot of luck lately.

Thanks for the advice - that makes alot of sense. It'll be interesting to see what the coaches say about that on Saturday.

Kirsty - great to hear from you. I really appreciate you taking the time to post here.

I know how you're feeling having been in the same position before. Last year we were all going to dress in rags and press our faces up against the Asics store windowimage

Millsy1977 - that's another beauty, let me get my pen. Have you spoken to any publishers yet? We'll have to get you a thread jingle to start and end these little nuggets of awesomeness!

Rugby injury you say? You're a player? Nice! Where do you play?

A.W - ha ha image Yes, I will need bouncers too. Any volunteers before Reg throws his hat in?

Kit? I thought they said Kilt. That was the only reason I entered!image

Seren - store day is Saturday. Are you sure you want to see it? It's embarrassing enough having such gifts bestowed upon you without rubbing it in with pictures.

Malcs, I'll keep sending them through every day. I think I have made all of the schoolboy errors over the years.

Rugby wise I'm a winger / fullback although have scaled back my playing since I started running. As I've lost a yard or so of pace over 100m I've got a lot faster over long distance. I still play if the team is short of numbers but am concentrating on running a lot more now as am still seeing good improvements.

I got a dead leg 2 weeks before VLM this year and nearly wasted 4 months of the best training ever so am being extra careful from now on.

When does your official Paris plan start?
  • MalcsMalcs ✭✭✭

Excellent we'll have a special "Millsy's schoolboy error of the day" slot - love it! image

Oooh, wing/full back - same position as me! image

I was playing up to last year but decided this season I just couldn't combine running, rugby and the kids. Something had to go and Mrs Malcs wasn't too happy when I suggested it could be the kids.

Dead legs are a nightmare. I was out for a month with a really bad one. What team do you play for?

On Saturday we will be meeting the coaches to discuss our training. I believe that will then start next week!

In anticipation of this I have been trying to get at least a little match fit. Yesterday I did a nice little 4 mile fartlek with Mrs Malcs. Well, I say fartlek, we were just all over the place on pace.

Today I wanted to get some time on my feet so did an hour slow. Ended up about 6 miles at a bit over 9mm pace. Didn't feel great I have to say but I know things can improve quickly (please God let that be true).

I shouldn't have read the sex and running thread before reading your post.that conjured up a pictureimageimage

  • Hi Malcs, you're going to be busier on here than running.....  ;-)

my injury is a badly torn calf muscle which would have not been so bad if I'd actually realised how bad it was and recovered properly in the first place Before trying to abuse it again. it took several times before I learnt.....image

If reality matched intention I'd know I was dreaming
  • Wow, I go away for one day, and there's a frenzy on the forums... who is this guy... I voted for the other baldie... I thought he had won...  This Malcs guy actually thinks he can sneak in by pretending to do some running?? hmm

I see he's a rugby player... I'm going off to find some runners. . . but no wonder he's so willing to wear a dress and bright pink compression socks!!

I'm such a tease!!! image   Good luck Malcs... look forward to seeing your training plan!

  • Chimney.  I think the hardest part of running is learning the difference between a niggle and an injury

  • MillsyMillsy ✭✭✭
Don't panic, I always have that nagging doubt in my mind for the first weeks of a new plan. This spring I felt like I was going backwards in Jan but by the Wokingham half on 10th Feb everything started to click.

I play for the Wheatsheaf, in Dorset and Wilts Div 3. We were a pub team for about 13 years but have been in a league for the last 7 or 8 as we wanted more fixtures. We are more rugby and less beer orientated than we used to be.
  • MalcsMalcs ✭✭✭

Seren - image easy now kid! image

Chimney - it's looking that way!

Ouch that injury sounds nasty. I would have thought you'd know if you had a torn muscle though? Weren't you hobbling? Did you see anyone about it early on? I'm guessing not.

Brolish - apologies, I forgot you in the earlier post. Many thanks. I really hope you are right!

Angela - ha ha image Thanks!

Millsy - thanks, good to know. It's the same any time you have a little lay off in training but you always forget how quickly you get back into it.

Ooh I love a bit of rugby talk. image

  • Good luck Malcs, I loved following Ady & Sara last year whilst I was training for the Brighton Marathon. Reading this tempted to run a Spring Marathon myself in 2014, so I feel part of the gang!
  • An ex player here, or rather one who hasn't played since last season. Played in every position at one point or another (The joys of playing for a small club).

Took up running when I had to have an operation on my shoulder and couldn't play. Running never stopped me playing, Rugby has regularly stopped me running!

And yes, when it first went it was bleeding painful and I collapsed. Never felt a muscle 'Pop' before, weird. I was close to the top of Pen-Y-Pass and didn't intend going any further. I did though, stupid boy. It was a wonderful colour the following day, only ever seen that from massive impacts before.

Seeing someone about it, and only hearing what you want to hear, ignoring the rest, is pointless, again a lesson I have often learnt, and just as often forgotten......

Anyway, back to you. So what's the heart rate like now? Very jealous of the trip to London and all the goodies. The opportunity to get training, nutrition, physiology advice from professionals is for us at our level a dream come true.

If reality matched intention I'd know I was dreaming
