Thanks toby ....I can't wait ......won't be doing a marathon next spring though, but will hopefully do my autumn run of half marathons

  • Options

Toby3 - thanks for that, 2 marathons in two days will be a challenge, but is life not about challenges, it will also make me then taper for Brighton. Good luck if you go for your PB, I am also slower than last year, but apparently fitter as average heart rate is down, so maybe good, still looking at chasing a sub 4hr at Brighton.

Is anyone else looking for a sub 4hr marathon ???

  • Options
SPEN - who is NOT looking for sub-4image ??

im hoping for a sub 4 but my pb is 4.23 so i know i have a massive task on my hands, but im gonna start with the 4 hour pacer and see if i can hold on, i may surprise myself but whatever the outcome i defiantly want another pb then for London the week after a sub 4.30 Will be my dream outcome to
  • Options

Franz - I know what you mean, I just want a finish starting with a 3.

Yvonne2 - I am hoping to go with the 4hr pace group as well and see how it goes, my best is 4hrs 7mins that was off road last year at Pitsford so in theory should be able to knock 7 mins off on the road. I have always had a problem at Brighton around mile 16, I am going to conqueror that demon this year.

    Take care everyone

Spen - 2 marathons in 2 days you nutter. I'm doing Barcelona in a couple of weeks on Sunday.

Was looking for a sub 3 but Brighton have rejected me for fast start area. So will look to do that in London as they did accept me in the GFA .

Not running very well either. Bad cold and it's been windy.

Looking good everyone. Keep it up.

Franz - I am probably one of the few on this blog who isnt looking for a sub 4!  I would love a 5 in front of the number, so a sub 6 but will have to see how it goes on the day, even 6.30 would be 40 mins faster than last year.  I dont think even in my wildest dreams I could get anywhere close to a sub 4.

Lots of good running going on and quite a few of you doing multiple marathons, so good luck to you all.

Bath Half on Sunday, going to treat it as a training run and see what time I get without putting too much pressure on.

if a plodder like me can get a sub 4 then I’m shore you too can

Yvonne just remember you took 23 minutes of your H/M time the first time we ran together at Cricklade and you got your fist solo sub 2hr H/M last year

Spen with all the training you must have done for these 2 Marathon i bet you breeze a sub 4 this year

Poohbear - we all have our own goals and to me that is what makes the marathon so good, we are all winners in our own way good luck on your 5:?? finish.

Toby3 - hope fully but only done about the same training as last year, got an 18 miler tomorrow morning so that will be my last real long training runs before Pitsford and Brighton.

Wenty - I have not been know for my mental stability so 2 in 2 days is a challenge, my first ever race was a marathon, and then got in ultras.

    take care all

Paul, you don't need to be in the fast start area to get a sub 3. You can get away at your own pace no problem as long as you are not too far from the front of the 1st pen in Preston Park. The elite start is in a different area altogether and we all join up just after a mile.

Poohbear, I too would have no hope of getting round anything under 4! I'm hoping for a sub 5 so hoping I can keep up my 11 min miles although would be nice if I manage to run faster on race day.... All in all my main aim is really to get round running and not having to walk loads

  • Options

Soph86 I ran my first marathon in 2010, with the sole task of not wanting to stop and walk any of it, and I did it,I ran the whole way and finished in 4:29 which was my second wish a sub 4:30

Mind you I've not got much faster I was slower the following year cos it was blinking hot 4:35 and in 2012 I ran 4:23 .....

But it's a special day the crowds and the other runners it's just fab ...

4.30 is my ideal time but would rather take 15 mins longer if it means I enjoy it more. Managed to shave off 30 mins from my half marathon time since September so who knows image

Soph - I bet you do it faster than you think. You may surprise yourself.

Phil - cheers I was at the start of the Preston area last year, which means first 3/4 mile is uphill instead of elite area which is downhill. They said my link did not work, but the link was to last years Brighton marathon. I think I will scrap Brighton this year and concentrate on London, shame as always enjoyed Brighton. Are you running London as well.

Does anyone know which gatorade gels they will be handing out during the race? I've really struggled with gels and finally found that torque ones dont upset my stomach but dont want to carry loads around with me so guessing I should try the gatorade ones and the drinks

  • Options

Soph86 - as far as I understood they hand out High 5 Energy Gels at Mile 15 and Mile 21 and Gatorade Energy Drinks at Mile 5, 12, 19 and 24.

As the gels are doled out late in the race I will take 4-5 with me and stick to the water as I am used to.

    See you, Franz

Soph86 you can get gel belts to wear the one i have holds 6 although I'm going with mini flapjack bites from ASDA this time around as i found the Gels and shot blocks did very little and like you just made me feel sick in the end

Toby3 - you, a plodder!? image  I think not image

I haven't run for 5 weeks but now almost recovered from Plantar Fasciitis and still have 5 weeks left to train! image

I shall be cheering you all on.  Look out for the volunteer dressed as a green fairy image

GELS - since I run longer distances I wear tops and shorts from Raidlight, a small French company specialised in apparel for endurance runs. Each top or trousers has two stretch pockets. You can carry 12 gels and other stuft without wearing a belt or a hip pocket.

    Keep on, Franz

What a lovely day it was for a run yesterday ,although icy in patches at 7:30am it was good to be out running, did my second 20 miler and although it's meant to be a long slow run I ran it at my fastest long slow pace so far, without meaning too, felt like I was going slower than I was but turns out it was at 9:45 min mile pace ,if I can go at that pace or faster on the 26.2 then it's a shiny pb for me !!

Right I'm ordering my blue tutu today,as I'm running for Parkinson's UK and we are running in them, had my vest last week to along with iron on letters spelling out my name,obviously...they have been a good charity to run for, giving you everything you need to fundraise ie posters, collecting tins, quiz questions, and lots of support, like most charities we are having the after marathon massage and food/drink etc

Hope everyone's long run goes well this weekend and it's 5 weeks today ....taper for me starts 22nd,which sees just a 13 miler after next week's 22 ....arrgghh

I must be crazy, I just signed in for the Country to Capital 45miler Ultra on January 17, 2015.
  • Options
    Yep you are totally nuts!

Bath Half today - time by my Garmin is 2:27:08, 15 mins faster than previous pb and average pace of 11 min miles.  If I can keep that up I may get my sub 6 hr Marathon in 5 weeks time yet.

Well done on your run Franz.  You obviously enjoy your running to sign up for a 45 miler.  Well done and good luck.

Well done Yvonne on your 20 miler.  You are on track to pb again - good luck

Only 5 training weeks to go! Today was my 3rd 20 miler. This time in gorgeous sunshine! Only two more long runs for me a 17 and 21. after than a half and smog shot stuff.

what will everyone's longest run be for training? Should I push the 21 to a 22? For me it's just about confidence of knowing I'm close! When I was training for my first half I actually did 14 in training so I knew I'd be fine on the day!
