That 100 looks like a beast!
This is from previous years but gives a good flavour of the events, for any of the regulars can you spot yourself?

My 'birthday treat' in March last year was pretty memorable
I hope to come back and do the event properly this year..... without the snow
I still look back with admiration with your marshals who must have taken a while to thaw out
You are a bit late with these dates though I have already entered a 50m on the 23rd of March. Doing a 40m warm up the day before.... I am not sure about that Can you guarantee no snow?
Yep no problem, what do you fancy I will book it tomorrow
3D Fly-by of the ultra route can be viewed here - http://vimeo.com/86186225
Marathon and 10 mile distances also available...
Cheers
Is the Black Mountains route similar to last year but with extra distance (22nd March). I came up and went round the route before the race, it was magnificent, I would love to do it, the first time I went round it was -7c with strong winds on Lord Herefords Knob
I am starting to regret entering the 50 now
It really shows the beautiful countryside we have here.......loving the look of these.only done one and it was well organised....next year maybe,....
The route this year is 7 miles longer it covers a lot of the same ground but often in the opposite direction, essentially it goes a little further East in to a little trodden but stunning ridge, you are in England at this point so get bragging rights for covering two countries in one day
Which 50 did you enter out of interest?
Seriously tempted after I missed out on entry to the SDW entry. The only date that works for me, though is the Brecon 100/72. Would consider doing the 72 but wondering if this is too much of a step up from my first outing of 50k last summer? Also, I can map read but am not an expert at orienteering. Is the premarked map a 1:25k or 1:50k?
It is called the Wreckers Challenge, nice and local for me
But I would rather be in the Black Mountains
I was out for a bimble the other day in the wild and mountainous terrain of Caversham, Reading, when I spied a van that had a passing resemblance to the Scooby Doo Mystery Machine with the Mightcontainnuts logo on the side. Twas parked outside the canoe club.
Morning,
David it is a big jump, everything is possible with the right preparation could you find a stepping stone event between now and then maybe? The maps are 1:25K and it is a map reading exercise in the sense that you are following distinct footpaths and we will aim to mark any vague sections...hope that helps
Sideburn, I understand the attraction of local events, if you don't make round 1 at least you have 3 other rounds and 100 / 72 as options, all the course are stunning and challenging IMHO...hope to see you at some point in 2014...
Cheers
Mutley,
That was me, my day job takes me to Reading most weeks, I park up there a lot during the winter and run in along the river, although avoiding the tow paths at the moment!
As the evenings get lighter I move out further to the Chilterns, OK there isn't the height gain / loss of home but there is no shortage of great trail for running & MTB.
Some more photos from last year;

I am sorely tempted by the 100, but it might be too close to Hardmoors this year!
Round 1 and the 100 booked so far, and I can't wait - course looks superb.
The Wreckers Challenge has been cancelled;
Now; the 26 or the 40 mile option........
But I do not know whether I will get a refund yet The organiser has health issues so my sympathies are with him.
I have (sort of) wimped out and entered the Marathon on the 22nd March (my birthday). Hopefully the weather will be more kind this year!
Not for myself you understand
Weather looking promising at the moment, of course it could all change again
We will be closing entries in the next few days so if you want to be on start line for either the 10 miler, marathon or ultra, places avaliable...
cheers Guys
Frenchy looking forward to the 40. I'm looking to kip in my van the night before what is the parking like at the venue?
Hi Dill, we will be utilising the public car park at Talgarth which should be fine and you will have all of Talgarth's facilities to hand, that said there are more scenic spots less that 10 mins away if you want something out of the way, give me 10 mins...
If conditions are OK (not gale force as quite exposed) this is a great spot, great views of the Black Mountains & Wye Valley;

Just down the road, very quite and not exposed, OK as long as your not driving a tank, I kip there in my T5 when I want an early start on to the mountains;

Official parking, park up in a corner should be fine, might get a little traffic at throwing out time?

Half way house, basic campsite, lovely owners, very cheap, showers, toilets;

Hope that helps...
Up to date entry list added for round 1...still time to enter all distances, conditions looking pretty good at the moment, will it last !!!

Thanks for that. I'll have a look.
One minor problem though. I have just checked start list and I am not on it. I have emailed a copy of my conformation to community@mightcontainnuts.com
Yep, not sure how I missed you! Your added and will be on next upload at the weekend...
How much of an issue would it be to swap from the Marathon to Ultra?
I have just had an email to say I will (eventually) get my money back from the Wreckers I assumed I would not get my money, back so was reluctant to pay the fee for the ultra as well, the Marathon was a compromise. But having psyched myself up to do 50 at the Wreckers doing 26 feels like a cop out
That and the fact that everyone at work is off sick meaning there is a bit of an overtime bonanza going on means I am more flush than I thought
Hi SideBurn, just seen this sorry, if you still want to do the Ultra put an entry in and I will refund you the marathon entry, no problem...
Thanks
Thanks for a great day a bit chilly in places
