I got dropped big time on my 50 mile ride this week. Was gutted. Until I realised I'm pretty sure it was Team Sky riders. by time I realised they'd all gone. Tried to catch up.........
yes i know where it is now.....its classed as Cat4 (SH is cat 3 but actually that C3 climb section actually starts way before SHL) its steep but not too long.....not as tough as shl if you ask me.
mrsB is transferring to IMUK tomorrow.....sadly....i will not be racing an IM this year...i've withdrawn from sweden cause i just dont have time to train due to work commitments....i'm doing the brutal half as my A race instead.
plenty guide rides going on if anybody is interested in being shown around.....i'm in full support mode for imuk again this year....its gonna be brilllllllll
done a proper recce of the new route today and i'm happy to report.....i think its harder....lol
there is no doubt the bottom half of the route is tougher than the 'old bottom half'...but its possible over the total route it will be marginally easier.....but its much more up and down now....so although theres less climbing overall...imo theres a lot more instances of climbing.....and now with hunters hill.....you dont have 3 'big climbs' (3 times up shl) you actually have 4 big climbs on the day and the last one being after about 90 miles.....OUCH!!!
So there's less overall ascent but more hills to climb, is that right?
I read on another forum that it feels like you spend 70% of the time climbing would you agree with that Andy?
I don't mind climbing if you can gain some time back on the descents but if they are short technical descents it's gonna be harder to build up any speed.
hi guys.....i'll be able to put a route up on garmin but i'm sure you can export the gpx file from the rideit website that has a link on the imuk website...if not i'll put one up for you but it will be midweek.
Mark yes thats right.....i'm not even convinced they have the numbers right cause according to garmin data from the ride it will be about 300ft less overall.....but there are not many places where you'll be able to just go for it.....the longer second secion now has a lot more up and down...some of it easy....but hunters hill is very steep near the top.....i think its harder than the top part of SHL....there will be people walking up it for deffo!!!
Out on the course Sat morn for another bimble, a regular from our club says he thinks the bike is 30 mins slower than the old course ! Bang goes my 6:30 bike then !
I don't mind a hard course and I don't think anyone expects an ironman to be easy I just think we're all trying to find out what to expect.
In reality 1200m of ascent really isn't that much over 112 miles, if it's constantly turning corners it doesn't sound like the most fun to ride though (IMO)
I'll be heading over there at some point to have a look.
to try and put it into perspective....you climb a long way up sheephouse lane....but it only gets tough up to the lonely tree after the small drop down....you now only do this twice but.....with hunters hill....its like going up to the lonely tree 4 times...so where you had 3 tough climbs...you now have 4!!!
A bit but it's hard to visualise if you haven't been there! Like I said I don't mind climbing I just hope it's a course that everyone will enjoy riding.
I'm looking forward to seeing for myself, might try and head over there at Easter.

looks like the new route is approved.....
where is hunters hill???

Runs parallel with Parbold Hill, called Bannister Lane / Whittle Lane, Bishpam
Is hunters hill not parbold hill then
i will be giving the new route a test very soon
Hunters is not Parbold, tough little bugger it is too.
How does it compare to sheep house
longer/ shorter
steeper
Shorter, steeper! 17% for a while, 1/2-3/4 mile long, pub at the top!
If it was easy it would be called football
i am too old for football so why did i start doing ironman ? ? ?

Ouch ! Do you have the route saved up on Garmin ? If so can you post the link.

well that would be a good start mark....but dont do that just cause they changed the route...it was fooking hilly anyway!!!
it is called ironman....and if you've not heard....it fuckin hurts!!!

I'm just trying to get my head around the fact the bike has less elevation but is supposed to be harder/slower it doesn't make sense!
More right turns, more turning full stop.
It is what it is guys....

Got to agree with you on all the turns.
Might try and get over to shout abuse

Garmin routes as I was struggling to convert.
I'm planning on going up to ride the bike course on Tuesday 29th April.
Can meet at Pennington Flash about 10am then ride a loop if anyone else is around ?
