Closed road is B4461. All the lanes west of it will have very minimal traffic - a few farms etc. Motorway will be closed for start only, then going back we use the pedestrian access way.
I drive across the new bridge quite a lot and have often thought that it would be fun to run across it... I'd settle for the old bridge though...
Paul101 -- How much will it cost to enter? I've looked it up in the Events section of this site and the cost isn't stated... Also, the online entry doesn't appear to work.
You will need the B4461 to be closed between Alveston Down and the Severn Bridge. Have you spoken to anyone from Thornbury Running Club for their opinions, we run the roads on the English side a lot and you might get some quite useful feedback? Also a local Half Marathon would be great but I won't be able to enter this year unfortunately (maybe 2015?)
Option 1, running up Mumbleys half way round, what a killer! Option 2 at least avoids Mumbleys! Option 3 has a rather long section of road to close so they all have drawbacks.
Yes B4661 will be closed on the whole of the course. We know DaveA well. Thanks for the feedback - course option voting going well - will give results of this at the end of the week. Over 100 voted already.
XX1 - we are still waiting on final news from sponsors - hope this will help keep the cost down. Bridge closure, road closures, traffic management etc etc all adds up. Entry fee will include souvenir technical T, souvenir medal and goody bag with drinks and snacks and banana. We plan to have a lively and atmospheric event centre and free parking.
Now I know how politicians feel. It's never a good idea to answer a question is it?
However, I will answer your question truthfully XX1:
I don't know. The guy on the team writing the business plan is insisting on getting agreement from sponsors before announcing the actual entry fee.
I think it's safe to say though that it will be more than £20 and less than £30. Hope that helps. By the way... you're not Steve are you? ExEx is a lot like XX1.
Yeah right, and I now know how Jeremy Paxman feels If you don't have the exact figure yet then it's fine to say that... But good to have a rough idea... So thanks for answering my question
Hi pinkbug - currntly doing the rounds with chip timing companies who will also be dealing with on-line entries. However, we are going with RW entries too and these will with any luck be opening at the end of this week.
2/ Sorry about delay - it's due to getting on-line entries organised - we very much wanted to keep entry price down and so have been searching around for the best deal
3/ Good news is that in the last couple of days we have agreed terms with on-line entry provider and timing specialists - Full On Sport. They are hoping to get entries up and running for us next Wednesday. That's the 26th February!
There is also a good chance Runners World will be handling on-line entries too and this may well be open before Wednesday.
fantastic just eigned up really looking forward to this first severn bridge half. it will be a long journey fro Suffolk bot well worth it One happy old codger
i prefer running with the sun on my back. did jersey marathon thrr years ago and it was 30c.and that was in october off to do the Limarsol marathon in three weeks time
Just to let you all know that we now have over 500 entries. At this rate the race will sell out well before August so if you have any friends thinking about it tell them to get their entries in quick.
Have you thought of billing it as an international half-marathon? You could set up some rivalries, like NIKE did in London with North v South. fastest Welshman/woman V Englishman/woman. Greatest number of entries by country, most top 10/50/100 finishers etc...get some hype going and add to the fun. Some good local running clubs on both sides of that bridge who might support e.g FODAC, Spirit of Monmouth, Chepstow Harriers, Thornbury AC

Is the section that runs on the lanes going to be closed road?
The old bridge has cycle / pedestrian paths on both sides

Oh... and thanks for all those voted re: course options. That's all over now and I can say that Option 1 got 71% of the vote. Option 1 it is then.
