Ant- looking back I did a couple of 1.31 HMs before I did 3.11 so don't underestimate what may be possible though I do agree the sub 90HM would give the extra confidence needed

DD- that's heck of a difference between the 2 bikes. You're probably right with your target

chick- I know what you mean,I'm already thinking of similar targets after my Achilles scare . So many tricks going on in our heads

AA- it's not the HM time that's the secret but more miles.... You're fast enough for sub 3.15 imageChamps start says it all ...not a fraud at all

Nell - not sure the greyhound would get over the fences at Aintree.Sounds a good plan for your LR and 10miler

kfc- you really do do marathon training the alternative way but it works .....for you

col- bet your glad to see the end of these sessions approaching

couldnt manage not running today so did a steady 10k in about 46mins. Just the normal aches and discomfort after it so a little less worried. Not sure about my LR this weekend though.

AA not sure why you feel a fraud. You earned the champ start

2old I've picked my horses so all set for the bookies tomorrow image

Old4S I do know someone who has a Rhino costume & who has taken part in HM & I think a full mara wearing it! & I'm not kidding.

Hard swim session tonight - A bit of speed work & learned about drafting but felt like I was trapped in a washing machine!

Barry & I have a bet on for Stratford HM so got to go out this weekend & up those run miles

  • MinniMinni ✭✭✭
O4S - I might join you in that rhino outfit!

9 miles with 7 @ 7:15 tonight done. Didn't feel great but didn't feel rubbish. My hip was a bit sore to start with (I'm being referred to a 'specialist' as it seems to be the sciatic nerve) but wore off. My opposite calf is now sore!!!!!!

    FFS as they say!
  • chickstachicksta ✭✭✭
Join the sciatica club, Min :-S. Mine has been bugging me since was stupid enough to do those too-fast-for-me 1k reps the other day.

Can't believe I did three months of almost perfect training and not much grumbling from the back and now things go pear-shaped image Still hope that the next two weeks will straighten things out.
  • chick - taper madness at its worst. Just take it easy now.

Minni - they were fast miles. Hope you're more positive now.

Barry - good to see you back running well again.

last interval session done. 6x600. Legs felt ok once they got moving. Nothing but a couple of easy 4 milers next week now.

  • Nell - I got plantar fasciitis in July last year. Hobbled round a half ironman in september and then couldn't run again until November!

off to town this afternoon to watch The National as it's my birthday tomorrow so will end up having a few beers. Then go cold turkey for the week! Anyone else betting on Long Run??image

  • 2Old2Old ✭✭✭
Chick- relax- you'll be fine. Still doing a LR this weekend? Not sure if I will / should

Minni-it's an up and down time for you now but straight ahead in a week

    AA-nice reps

Barry- wish your speed came as easily to me. Very fast 10

Pink-if I hadn't lost all my money on the horses I'd bet on you

Getting some sun for a few days
  • just popping in to see how the taper nerves are holding up? Wrap yourselves in cotton wool guys, not long to go now!!

  • AA: enjoy the beers, you have earnt that champ start

Pink: if you think drafting is like being in a washing machine give a triathlon swim start a go! There was the day i got kicked repeatedly in the face at a turn buoy which happened to be a shallow point on the course, i actually stood up to see who it was and realised that guy withthe huge grin was my best mate! I was so angry that I swam awy from him the only time i ever did that.

Minni: Suck it and see, got to be wortha shot.

Chick: plenty of time for the niggles to calm down

2old: Sunshine? Off to Spain ?

Rest day for me, phew! Also debating whether to do one more16 miler or just taper in, i suspect that canning the 16would be the wise decision BUT!

Not sure either about tomorrow's final long one. Just did 8 in the rain with 4@7:26 pace and it wasn't too bad. I can still feel the hip thing and also a bit of sciatica traveling down to the calf but wouldn't say it was pain and I reckon the adrenaline on race day will mask itimage

Plan says a tune up race today and 17 tomorrow. Certainly no tune up race today!! Maybe 15 tomorrow with a bit of MP. I'll choose a bail out route and play it by ear.
  • 2old - you're a marathon machine - that is excellent conversion! My conversion track record isn't quite that impressive - probably need more miles.

chick & minni - hope the sciatica clears!

O4S - you're the don of distance, you'll be fine once you get to the green start.

I bought some Saucony Kinvaras this week after people on the thread spoke highly of them. Did a 3 mile easy run in them today. Seem to be very nice. A bit late for this marathon campaign, but will definitely be cracking them out afterwards. About 100g lighter than my current shoe!

12 miles for me tomorrow according to P&D, so shall be out there.

15 miles hill walking today, damp and miserable as well - perfect marathon weather!

Back, hips, glutes and hamstrings all tight, really hope the Osteopath can work his magic on Wednesday image

Only 4 weeks to the 100 mile event.............

  • Nell BlueNell Blue ✭✭✭

HI AA, Oh that is painful so I have heard, I have never suffered with that, the band I've had trouble with is the ITB..... a lot :0(

You sound over it though, so that is good.

Hi Ant, I moved to the Kinvaras after a chi running class and the coach suggested going down to zero drops running shoes, I went down to the Kinvaras as they were 4mm drop to use as a transition and have really enjoyed them so much, that I have stayed with them and not moved down any further. I did try some innov8's zero drop, but went back to the kinvaras. Unfortunately there are not the bargains about this year as there was last year ;0(

  • PinkladyPinklady ✭✭✭

O4S The guy I know did run VLM in that Rhino suit.

DD I have thought about a Tri but maybe nxt year. I can certainly swim a lot better now. No doubt our coach will have us experiencing the washing machine effect again during a swim session.

Hope you both are better soon Chick & Minni

Happy Birthday AA, hope you have a great day today

My folks came to visit yesterday & they got to witness me cheering around the blounge as I had a Grand National Winner - Pineau De Re. Off to the bookies to today to collect my winnings but I have a long run of 11 miles to put in first.

  • chickstachicksta ✭✭✭
Happy Birthday, AA. Have a few beers for me, will ya?

    Nice win there, pink.

17.5 slogged. Started at 8:40 pace (yawn) and finished at 8:00, av. 8:20 but it felt hard!! Couldn't be arsed to drive to the hills so ran on the flat. Somehow I prefer my hilly route. A lot less boringimage

Back still sore. It doesn't improve with rest but doesn't seem to get worse running. Hopefully it sorts itself out by the 21st.
  • kfc.kfc. ✭✭✭

    milkybars are on pink lady!

    Happy bday AA!

time to rest that back chick - you've got some great training bagged.

Hope its just the taper minni. Speedy session done there.

    What did you decide DD?

Forgot about your 100 miler O4S, it does come along quick after London. Is that the marshals one again this year or the main event?

Trendy slow 5 just now on the other side of the south downs from Brighton.  Thought about the Brighton marathoners as I went - theres a fair wind blowing - usually means its quite blowy by the seafront.  Heading over later to catch up with my friends who are running - hope they are having fun!

  • Mornin' All,

Stalking Spoons... He's through 15k and it's looking goodimage

  • old4speedold4speed ✭✭✭

KFC: marshals again, I am on the organising committee this year responsible for HQ, 48 hours on control, arranging first aid and Raynet. Also Treasurer and in charge of scheduling the volunteers over the weekend. Actually doing the event will be the easy bit image

At least nobody on here was doing the Sheffield HM!!!

  • Spoons is through half and it looks like he's running with one of my clubmates.

Love Brighton tracking system! As a newbie to stalking, I hope London's is as good as this?

  • ... Forgot to mention but Cooks is running as well and looking as speedy as ever.image

  • several marathons this weekend then - Brighton, Manchester and Paris. Hope we hear some race reports image

  • chickstachicksta ✭✭✭
Stalking spoons too. This is fun image

The Paris app crashed. Malcs should have finished half an hour ago but page is stuck at 40k image
  • MinniMinni ✭✭✭
Spoons is flying! Not so shit after all!!
  • Cooks has finished... C'mon Spoons!

  • 2Old2Old ✭✭✭

DD- yes Spain. How did the 16 go?

just logged on to all this marathon excitement. Looking forward to the results and reports

chick- did you decide how long to run?

I chose long run as my Grand National horse and it failed to finish . I managed mine -17miles - started slowly but improved towards the bed to average 8mm throughout. Strange doing that in 24c heat Having done all the rest year below 8c

whats the protocol here about telling us how Spoons and Cooks did when we haven't heard from them for a while?

  • Kfc: ditched the long run

    Chick; well slogged

minni; hope that hangover run went well

    AA; happy birthday

Pink: you are one of the few winners at the National, spend your winnings on a tri entryimage

    go Spoons.

4 miles for me at a hobble, this injury is weird some days its ok others its not

  • 2Old - Hmmm, not sure... I think we should let our hungover leader decide.image

    Great run by Spoons regardless.image

  • Oh, exciting, hope they both bagged p.bs. cold + dreary out there, great marathon weather no chance of over heating!

  • Not sure what Spoons pb is, but definitely not one for Cooks.

  • 2Old2Old ✭✭✭

Oomp- hungover?surely not...and your hints re PBs aren't helpful image

DD- does sound odd but you have crammed in a lot in the last 10days so may be its nothing serious just an aging body telling you to get real

    AA- image To you
