Well done SL I'd wondered how you did - I was there spectating and it was really too hot! Are you going to enter the ballot for next year?
  • SunluvvaSunluvva ✭✭✭

HI Trigger, yes - I'll be entering again.  This year wasn't through the ballot - I got a club place last but had to defer as I was poorly.

    Hi All,

I'm going on holiday with a friend who's alcohol dependent. It was booked December, so I was in a bit of a state, not the best time of year for me.

I hear you all, but. I'm trying to do one day at a time, and am hoping for not drinking for the day of the holiday. I'm toying around with how much, or little I will drink. But in another post, I said want to wait till after the holiday, whether I want to stop completely, or maintain it at a minimum potential, that being the recommended levels, set by the the professionals.

He's talking about going to Goa for two weeks boozing, but as the above has stated, I will see if I can stop for these next 6 weeks, before making my mind up.

I won't be drinking anywhere near the amounts he talking about for himself, but that's his choice.

No run today, but I am hoping to get out Wednesday,

Good marathon time SL, when I finally get to my HM I would be glad just to get anywhere near that time, dividing it down to a HM time of course.

    Hope all okay/

  • Morning, well done on the marathon SL,thats a long time to be on your feet running, i just dont think i could do it.

Good luck Sinbad, you will need it going on holiday with a friend thats alcohol dependent. All my "normal heavy drinking pals" soon went different ways when i quit,as they really do not want to be around a sober person.  Much better off with sober company, thats not to say i do not enjoy a social occasion,my wife stills likes a tipple and has no problem at all with the stuff.

3.5 miles this morning in lovely spring weather, only problem i seem to be getting earlier and earlier. Seem to need less sleep with more exercise, has anybody else had this?

Have you all have a stress free wednesday, cheers.

Morning BWF, another good run image

Trigger, are you entering the ballot?  I am.  Shame they god rid of the 5 year rejection rule, I must be on about 6 or 7 now.

No running here, still can't hear and balance affected.  Bored now.

  • trigger2trigger2 ✭✭✭
Hi Cinders yes I'll enter the ballot but it's been ages since I've been successful! Good luck
  • SunluvvaSunluvva ✭✭✭

I'll enter the ballot too, last time I got in was in 2009 for the first Virgin London Marathon in 2010.  Within a month of getting the 'Congratulations' magazine I got ill with the crohns for the first time and hardly ran a step for almost 2 years.  Making up for lost time now though.

Sinbad - there's no magic formula out there, if you want to stop drinking then you have to not drink.  Making plans to drink less or only on this or that day won't work.  Socialising with (heavy) drinkers won't work - you're making it really really difficult for yourself.

BWF lovely morning for a run, a bit envious to be honest as I had to get out early.

I was going for my oxygen tank session but started feeling rough on the way there and my ears blocked and wouldn't pop so I didn't want to risk it and went to visit my sister instead.  Still feeling rough now so think this lurgy is making a comeback.  It was very kind and disappeared just enough for me to do the marathon and now it's coming back to bite me on the bum - payback!

Hope everyone's had a lovely Wednesday - been gorgeous out there hasn't it

  • Evening. Well done on the marathon sl - it was certainly warm. I had a great time supporting and door I missed you. I did drink quite a bit of cava but gave myself a golden pass for my birthday. I'm now back on the water and small bottle of wine which hubby is also doing which makes it easier

Sinbad - good luck on the holiday. It sounds quite a challenge.

Hope everyone has a lovely Easter break
  • trigger2trigger2 ✭✭✭
I'll be on the cava later today Soup Dragon - it's my son's 21st birthday and we've about 10 people around for dinner!

Happy Easter everyone - some fantastic weather for running out there at the mo xx

Happy 21st Birthday to your son trigger image

  • Morning, super day up here near Edinburgh.

Have a great party Trigger, take it easy.    Hope everyone has a nice holiday.

Off for 4 days, first since Xmas, Going for an Indian meal tonight with some mates, not really that keen on that type of food, but there must be something for me there.

Slept for 9 hours last night,a record i would think for me,must have needed it.

Looking forward to a slow run and a trip to the gym at some point.

    Have a great Easter all.

  • SunluvvaSunluvva ✭✭✭

Hope you had a good party Trigger and your son enjoyed his birthday

Did you find something on the menu you liked BWF.

I didn't see the RW support group at Mudchute at all Soupy - I completely missed you all image

I'm still laid up with this bloody virus so no running for me at all.  I felt really ill thursday and yesterday - spent most of it resting or in bed.  Didn't help that my foster daughter had a bit of an outburst on thursday and I was too unwell to cope with it.  I called hubby and he came home then took  her to work with him - he might be a miserable old git but he's got a lovely side to him too.

    Hi All,

I managed a 3.2 mile this afternoon. It was more like a speed walk than a run in 50.38 minutes. Two minutes off last weeks run, but its a restart.

I'm down to once a week where I'm going into the pub.

I hear you all SL BWF, and I agree

Its the isolation and lack of company that's crippling me.

I keep saying I will go to AA etc, I just can not motivate myself to. There's a mixed one, on a Wednesday more in the centre of town, than on the other side of town, which is not easy to get to.

The local On Trak did not work for me this time. I was trying to do too much at once. I think EDI and others including SL BWF have said, it takes all your mental and physical energy to stop.

Sorry to hear SL and Cinder's are not well, hope you get well enough to run properly again soon.

Counselling is getting tough, but is helping. I'm also going into a forum and website called Pandora's project (aquarium). There been similar experiences to me, and its very supportive for everyone, self help in many ways.

    anyway happy Easter everyone.

Apart from the health issues, I hope your all okay.

  • hello, everyone.

sorry to hear about the virus taking a hold Sl and hope it clears soon. Good your hubby is helping and being loving too, what a husband should be, i guess, i had to re-learn to be better a husband all over again !

Had a Biryani last night, looked like a cake with an omelette on top, very weird looking, tasted nice thoughimage

Keep positive Sinbad  .you said  "its the isolation and lack of company thats crippling me"

thats where an AA meeting does its best work, give it a try. Not sure what you mean by a "mixed one" anyone can go to a meeting, should always be inclusive, never exclusive.

Keep at the counselling too, can be an extremely good help in many cases.

Enjoying the break, hope everyone else is tooimage

    Hi All,

    There's ladies only group's.

Just got in and downloaded the results. 3.1 miles in 49.26.

I felt it was quicker. It do'es not show that I did the first mile in 15.06. Twice now in getting close to the my 15 minute mile target.

Hope you all have a happy Easter day.

  • I'm trying give up. Best to do it a bit at a time otherwise your body will go into shock that's what a counsellor told me.

    Hi All,

Hope your all enjoying the Easter holidays?

How is everyone doing with training over the Easter weekend, has anyone managed to keep it going?

My 3rd run on the trot, not done that in a while. I'm really chuffed with time 47 minutes 57 seconds. The first mile was, if I remember rightly 14 minutes 38, so I've reached my first target. Although the second mile was a little slower, the third mile was somewhat quicker.

I have heard that to craziefeet. My friend has been told if he stops with the amount he drinks, it could kill him. So he is slowly trying to cut down. You have come to the right room, there a brilliant supportive bunch of runners in here.

Cinder's I forgot to answer your question. I was planning on making it a boozy holiday, but now winter's out of the way, I tend to struggle over the winter months, I know now why, but it's hard to change when its part of you. But will keep trying. I have already told him, I won't be keeping up with him, I am at least now aware of my own limits that have dramatically reduced of the past 3 months.

  • Hello,Sinbad & Craziefeet, you are correct that some alcoholics have to be detoxed,i know i have done it myself. If you have been drinking constantly day after day,it is always wise to go to your doctor for advice,he will have seen it all before. He can give you the neccessary treatment to get you through the first phase. Not all drinkers require this. It still boils down to the person wanting to stop and deciding to do something about it. Help is out there if you seek it

  • I'm having a second crack at kicking the habit - managed a few months last year but then fell off the wagon. I've been reading Allen Carr's book - it's all pretty simple and obvious stuff, but for me I prefer his approach to the AA (that's just my personal take, I know plenty of people here have found that AA worked for them). Although I haven't had a 'hallelujah' moment where I suddenly realise that I never want to drink again, I am being much more aware of the fact that drinking doesn't have any positive aspects for me, and I am definitely very aware that beer actually tastes pretty grim, so it feels like I'm making the necessary mental adjustments to stop. Planning on tapering off over the rest of this week then quitting by the weekend. Wish me luck!

  • SunluvvaSunluvva ✭✭✭

Hi Dongato and good luck image  Sounds to me like you're well on the way to kicking the habit.

Hello Crazziefeet, nice to meet you too.

I've been really unwell again since last week, on the mend a bit now but still feeling a bit rough and wiped out so no running since last Tuesday.  It's normal to get a bit of a cold or bug after a long run or lots of training but unfortunately when I get it I tend to get it bad due to the crohns wiping out my immune system image  Hopefully I'll  be better by the weekend and can get a run in at last.

I've won a runner up prize in a competition with Extreme Energy - the people who organise the Pilgrims Challenge that I ran with HT.  First prize was a free entry into the Pony Express - another 2 day 60 miler.  I didn't get that but I've got a runner up prize instead - don't know what it is yet - how exciting image

    Hope everyone's ok

  • Hello and good morning. Get Well soon SL,sounds horrible, but well done with the runners up prize.

Welcome Dongato, let us know how you get on this week.

I read Allen Carrs book many years ago when i wanted the madness and carnage drinking was causing in my life to stop, but really still wanted to drink. He said in his book,"dont stop drinking till you have finished reading this book" - of course i just never finished that book. In saying that anything that can be helpul and an aid to stopping drinking is worth trying, its just so much harder doing it on your own.

    Have a nice wednesday all.

  • SunluvvaSunluvva ✭✭✭

Funny that BWF, Allen Carr said the same in his give up smoking book - I didn't give up smoking for ages and never finished the book either.  Did it on my own in the end - about 18 months fag free now image

Glad to say I'm feeling a bit better today, still full of snot and no energy but not unwell image

Hope everyone else is feeling good today

  • Ooo a prize! I hope second prize isn't for an 80 miler instead of a 60 miles.image

Alan car's book sounds intriguing. I've discovered that drink out of boredom. Off to swimming masters class tonight and won't get home till 10 so I know I won't drink. I need to fill other evenings too

good luck all and keep on getting better sl
  • CindersCinders ✭✭✭

Well done on the prize SL, do you know what you are getting yet?

Enjoy the swimming SD, I used to enjoy masters image

I'm still half deaf and a bit bored of it now!

    Hi All,

Sorry to hear you not been well SL.

I not run this week so far, a d ended up Tuesday, and yesterday. I'm getting to the stage where I'm thinking I will not, in other words I'm losing heart.

I'm stuck in Friday, waiting for mobile delivery, I lost it drunk last Thursday.

But I forecast is rain Friday.

I'm going to my boat Tuesday for up to 2 weeks. I hope not to drink while on her, too much to do, and I want to get as many runs as possible.

I've decided that after the holiday to try to stop. I should not be so hard on myself, as Î am t least down to twice a week, from drinking all day every day. Booze ruins lives, and stops me from doing what I want to.

Anyway, I hope everyone is as okay.

  • Morning all,

Sinbad i think you gave all the reasons for stopping in your post, when i was a problem drinker,i found life unmanageable, the bad things just kept coming, hope you have a pleasant time at your boat next week, keep busy and take it easy, seems a paradox that, but it makes sense to me.

Off golfing today with sixteen or so other AA friends,so looking forward to it,not very good at golf but the social side is great, and no booze in sight.

Hope your ear clears up Cinders, ranks up with toothache with me any earache problem.

    Have a pleasant Friday.

  • going well so far, not had a drink since Tuesday and no real desire to, even having been in a situation where other people were drinking. Hope everyone else is ok.

  • sinbad113sinbad113 ✭✭✭

    Hi All,

    Good going dongato.

My delivery should be here by about 11.20am, according to an email they sent.

I had a run in with a bully, on Tuesday also. I said i din't like the old Landlord. this guy just came up to me and stated swearing and pointing at me in my face, I asked him not to, and just tell me his opinion, he then sat down with his mate, and they called me a dick head and nob head. I ignored them, as I knew the cameras were on us. He said to landlord later he wanted an apology from me, I overheard him, but the landlord had seen the camera footage, and said it was him being the aggressor.

I'm fed up with idiots like him. The new landlord has, is changing the pub around. He's barred a lot of the old regulars, who are drug users, thieves, and drug dealers, its these people he's got rid of, and this guy that had a go at me, is one of those people, and said he should not bar them.

The pub is busier than ever, the tills are and stock are spot on, and fewer problems overall, even with the football crowd coming in after the match, whereas before it would kick off.

I just seem to be someone that is made a target of each time I disagree with someone's else's opinion on most topics, sober or drunk. I seem to fall into other people's traps every time.

I like the pub, but the pub life doe's not seem to like me. But I do not know anyone outside of the pub scene.

I'm glad your off for the golf with AA pals BWF, perhaps I should start to go asap.

I will try and get out for a run Saturday, the forecast is rain, and the clouds are looking threatening outside already, I do not fancy getting soaked on a run.

I guess I drink to forget.

    I hope not too deep.

    Hope your all okay.

    Hi All,

I'm thinking of trying for the Cardiff half marathon, in October. You can still complete the HM after the roads reopen after 3 hours, on the pavements.

I'm slowly getting close to the 15 minute mark per mile. I'm just unsure as I struggle with commitment to training, swapping and changing sometimes by the minute.

    I hope all okay.

  • sinbad113sinbad113 ✭✭✭

    Hi All,

I hope previous posts not too deep?

I feel somewhat better, just been a tough couple of weeks.

I have decided not to do the Cardiff HM, I'm sticking to your suggestions of just running, as and when and concentrate on minimizing the damage the demon booze can do.

    Hope all okay?
