I don't have the time yet Millsy, that's why I'm asking before I do the race, my PB is 2:47:51 from a couple of years ago so by no means a certainty. I qualified for Good for Age in 2010 for the 2011 race, had to defer to 2012 and then had to pull out this year as well. Now too late for a Good for Age entry.
So my question is then, how do I know if it's certified?
If you've got a particular race in mind you could also ring up the VLM entry helpline and check with them; they were pretty helpful when I had to check details because the website was wrong.
It is Pisa I am considering and it's certified/accredited by the Italian Athletics Federation (FIDAL) so assume this would be ok providing that non UK events are accepted, but that's what I need to find out. Will give VLM a call tomorrow.
kittenkat, I had been planning on the half, but the only one I could find suitable was Gosport on 18th November, whereas Pisa is 16th December giving me more time to train and I think sub 2.45 marathon is more achieveable for me than sub 1:15 half.
When (roughly) is the deadline for Championship entries? I'm hoping to use Frankfurt as a qualifier (26/10/14) but I'm concerned it might be too late for the 2015 race...
It should be early January 2015, so Frankfurt will be fine. If you miss the time though, it'll be too late for GFA by then. If you already have a GFA time you should probably enter by that route in July and then 'upgrade' if you make the time in Frankfurt.
Yep, that was the plan. I assume there's no problem to 'upgrade' if you go from a GFA to a Championship, as long as it's before the Chsmpionship deadline.

I knew I should have just asked you in the first place!

There's no problem, lots have done it before.
I have a qualifying time but do not belong to a club. Do I need to join one before applying for a championship entry?
15W - yes, you will need to enter your UKA license number into the entry form.
