Hi everyone. I have just joined the forum and was wondering if I could get some advice from you all.
After having 4 kids, I have decided to get back into shape and start getting fit. I downloaded the 'Couch to 5K' for my phone and have just completed week 2, with the intention to move onto 10k afterwards.
The problem I am having is that during the run and immediately afterwards, I get an intense pain that feels like its behind my shin bones and my calf muscles pull really bad. The pain subsides after a few hours but it always comes back on the next session. Could this be down to just starting from scratch? or something else?
I am also running in a pair of Reebok ZigLites that I have used as fashion trainers for the past year. do i need to purchase a dedicated pair of running trainers?
Thanks everyone
BB

Yes, you need to go to a running shop and get fitted for proper running shoes.
You may well find that sorts the problem out.
+1 for what Screamapillar says.
get your feet sorted and everything else comes from there.
Yes, it could well be due to starting from scratch. My guess is that you're more or less subconsciously holding up your toes to stop your feet slapping on the ground, making the muscle on the front of your shin tense up. Whatever, it's the same answer as the others say: get some running shoes, and work into it gradually.
Thanks everyone
There is a place in Lincoln just down the road that does that, so I will go and have a chat with them.
