Spud Talbot-Ponsonby took about 10 months from August to May to do the coastline of Great Britain, walking it with her dog. She had friends driving a camper van round with her though. Proper camping would make it more difficult.
I have walked the coastline of Great Britain with my dog Havoc,Nov 2006 - Oct 2007. Aprox 5,000 miles. we carried everything on our backs, tent, sleeping bag etc. We did average of 18 miles a day. 26 was probably the longest day.
Carrying 40lb on your back certainly slows you down - so i think 30 miles a day is being very optomistic. Also you need to be able to enjoy your challenge.

What a great challenge! Which bit of coastline was hardest and/or most memorable? I live on the North Devon coast I love it!
The south west coast line is definately the most demanding plus the most beautiful, i live in south Devon. We started our walk in November from John O'Groats and walked clockwise., the days were short and we were at our least fit. By the time we got to Dorset and Devon the days were long and we were at our peak of fitness. Yes it is a challenge i will remember forever. The most memorabe part was the people we met. There generosity and kindness was amazing.
It is something I would like to do, but it would do my nut! Crow Point is a good example; the other headland is only a short (400 metres?) distance away (Appledore) but it is a 16-20 mile walk around.. I would be tempted to swim... The long walks I have done are memorable for the people I met as much as the scenery, but I was always too tired to really appreciate them! I am planning to attempt the Two Moors Way again (Plymouth to Lynton) as quickly and as light-weight as possible. I have not got the kit/low weight formula correct yet! I like to be prepared and eat well; table, chairs, fine wine, candelabra, silverware (I joke btw) but want to cover 30+ miles over hard country per day!
What is it about devon ? It seems to produce so many Ultra Runners and long distance walkers. Perhaps we get cross infected from the huge number of hash house harriers in the area.

I know this is a very old post, but I'm doing this next year (2015) It's 7500 miles minimum. The actual coast is more like 11000 but difficult to follow exactly! any support or fellow walkers would be most welcome!
Good luck PF. There's a guy who's just finished it, walking for Help for Heroes - Christian Around Britain. I've followed his journey on Facebook and found it really inspiring. He did a lap of all islands attached by bridges as well. He also slept rough every night as well raising awareness of the homeless.
Not sure if any info on his Facebook page would be of use to you?

so 150 days assuming you could keep up your 30miles.
best call it half a year to allow for the odd pint or two,

Her book is readable, but a bit pedestrian.

It's a question of scale but about 11,000 seems right.
