I have been looking at where I spend my time recently and thinking about my motivation for running. One of the reasons I got hooked on running in the first place (many years ago) was the endorphin high I got afterwards.
Recently I've been doing longer (20k - usually they're around 10k) runs, and after one fast one I got a high that made me think "hey, it used to be like this every time!" whereas even after a hard 10k run or a PB I don't generally get that feeling any more. I try and mix things up a bit: training for a mountain marathon so lots of hills/off road/running with weights. But it's rare to come back with a big grin on my face.
Am I just getting lazy and not pushing myself like I used to? Or do you get used to particular distances and need to do something different to get the same rush? I'm not going to stop running (perish the thought!) but I'm interested in others' experiences.

maybe give triathlon a go? Some people (ie wierdos) get a thrill from snapping on the latex and being slapped and tickled by middle aged men in a wet environment, before getting down and dirty with chains and more rubber - the following up by getting really out of breath and sweaty.
when you get to that stage you need the drugs.
Thats what Lance said too.
Cheese and Pickle - Oy, watch it you, or I'll send my wolves after you!
I'm a triathlete and I'm not a weirdo! At least I don't think so........
Do you think you could have just lost the fun element? If you are always training specifically for a race and feel you HAVE to do certain times and distances maybe you've just lost the running for the hell of it reason?
Impressive beasts
