Musculoskeletal profiling

Hi i wondered if anyone had any experience/advice about designing a musculoskeletal  profiling pro forma for marathon ( or other) runners. Trying to figure out which tests will be simplest to use to determine injury risk in this group.

Any help much appreciated!

A physio offered me something he called movement screening recently. IT involved a series of controlled flexibilty, balance and functional movement tests based on which he said he could assess musccle imbalances, injury risks etc.

I havent had the feedback yet so I cant say if its any good or not but the idea certainly makes sense. Im sure plenty of physios would be able to work that way

  • Thanks, can you remember what tests he asked you to do?

one was ' lie on your back, do a leg raise, lift pelvis off the ground with the other foot on tiptoe etc. he was checking to see what happened to my lower back when I did that

Another was: stand up, raise one leg , hop onto a bench using standing leg, hop off bench while pivoting. Lower raised leg . This was about checking balance and coordination.

others were more simple range of movement ones.

Nothing maximal or strenuous. It all took maybe 20 mins
