Don't know the course Joolska but good pacing and a strong finish- were you first lady?

Know the feeling PMJ. I was also slightly off the pace today after last weeks PB and Mondays race, happy with 18:16. Also picked up some bling as first male in the annual points table- which is more to do with the consistency of my attendance.

Good luck Badbark, hope the hard work pays off.

  • JoolskaJoolska ✭✭✭

Yes, first lady, although the girl in second (who would normally beat me) had raced the night before.  Still, it was all about the time today!  The course is a bit of a b*gg*r: uphill for almost all of the first mile; then flattish to the turn point (slight climb and on gravel/stones) and then everything in reverse on the way down.  It is, however, very good at working all of your leg muscles and the descent is great for leg turnover if you can disengage your brain sufficiently.

  • Hope Badbark goes well!

DNF, a got pulled out by a doctor after 53 miles due to blood lose from piles! Blood running down my legs. I was advised to to go to hospital but it's stopped now so drinking instead. You couldn't make it up! Gutted.

  • moofmoof ✭✭✭

On no Badbark that sounds a horrific experience.

Badbark, that must be so frustrating. I don't really know what else to say except I'm really sorry to hear that and I hope you're ok: physically and emotionally. Take care and recover well. ((( )))
  • badbark, shouldn't happen to a nice guy. Come back stronger.

  • PoacherPoacher ✭✭✭

Heck, I've seen some ugly painful things + some blood during ultras but that's a brand new one. You did absolutely the right thing. But during the last few months you have established that you are a natural and talented ultrarunner. There will other races. Look after yourself

Nice one Joolska, sub20 always feels good

  • Gutted for you, Badbark. Cold comfort, but there will be other races...

  • Fish52Fish52 ✭✭✭

That sounds awful Badbark, but also seems like you did the right thing. Hope you're feeling much better soon. I have to say, that along with others on here, I have been in awe of your training over the last few weeks. Go gently and recover well - 53 miles is still a long run.

Jools - nice sub 20 and a great set of splits

SJ - Nice mid-week tri. The bike course goes very near my house, so had I not been in London this week, I could have come to cheer you on. Was the swim in the old quarry?

  • SlokeyJoeSlokeyJoe ✭✭✭

Ouch Badbark. That sounds awful! Hope you recover soon....

  • SlokeyJoeSlokeyJoe ✭✭✭

Fishy, yes it was in the quarry. Very clear water and lots of large friendly fish! I'll let you know when I have another crack at it. There are 4 races (another 3) in the series.

Back to back sessions yesterday of 1hr hard on the bike followed by an hour easy run (8:30mm) then 3k swim.

Up at daft o'clock this morning to be out on the bike by 6:30am for 89miles followed by a 1 mile run at 8mm. Sore arse but Badbark has put that into perspective!

2hr run tomorrow puts me at 15hrs for the week and completes week 1 of the 4 heaviest weeks of the campaign. Hip is grumbly from running hard on Wednesday but otherwise I'm feeling good.  C'mon England!!!

Badbark-very sorry to hear that image , take it easy for a short while you have earned it.

Unlucky Badbark - your time will come.

    Good running Jools

    Nice one Jools.

Have I missed Poacher's Comrades report...?

My rollercoaster of a year continues.

I am being referred to a consultant regarding the hip but this new specialist physio I'm seeing seems to have made a big difference.  I'm hardly running at all but did Blaydon Races on Monday past and got a time just a few seconds slower than the last time I ran it a couple of years ago so quite pleased.  Very well done to OO on a cracking time.  Sorry I didn't see you.  Also the hip didn't react badly to racing 6 miles on the road so I was just starting to contemplate getting back on schedule.

However, another knock came on Thursday - literally.  I've been doing a cycle commute once a week (36m round trip) and was hit by a car on the return journey on Thursday.  He came straight out of a junction and 'didn't see me' (in my florescent pink, perfectly positioned on the road..image).  Thankfully nothing broken but bruised and sore - the left side of my body took the hit and I was thrown onto my right side.  My head took the impact of the road and if I hadn't had a good helmet on I simply wouldn't be here now.  Also thankfully there was no car coming the other way otherwise that would have finished me off too.

Feeling very lucky to have walked away and also very annoyed.

Supposed to be on crutches but got quite drunk at a wedding dance last night and did far to much dancing.  My knee isn't happy today!  image

(((Minni)))  Glad you're ok but what a frightening experience.  Be good for the next few weeks to let things heal!

18M off road and hilly @ 8.25m/m, but good leg strengthening and endurance training.  Don't think I'd done 18M for the best part of 2 months, which may explain why it felt fairly hard work!

  • SlokeyJoeSlokeyJoe ✭✭✭

Minni! Lucky escape indeed. Could have been a lot worse as you say but awful all the same. Hope the damage is minimal and you recover quickly. Is the bike ok?

  • BirchBirch ✭✭✭

Good grief, Minni, what a terrible experience. Good move to cut loose at the wedding party, I would say - hope you soon recover, and your cycling confidence isn't affected.
Badbark - really sorry to hear of the DNF; hope no lasting damage. Bad luck . .

Jools - pleased for you - nice sub-20, particularly on a course that seems a bit uneven !

  • OO54OO54 ✭✭✭

So sorry to hear that badbark. Your health is the No1 priority- not worth the risk, so probably for the best. Just get better and find a new target for your undoubted fitness.

  • TRTR ✭✭✭

Badbark - rubbish ROI there for you, sorry to hear that.

Minni - ouch ! glad you walked away from it, cycling is a dangerous game.

  • OO54OO54 ✭✭✭

Just did my 2015 VLM GFA entry on-line - have all those eligable done this, it's open?

  • Minni - sounds terrible and looks like you had a very lucky escape! Hope that you recover quickly and have the confidence to get back on the bike soon.

Madbark - really gutted for you after all the effort you put in training for this one. At least there have been plenty of successes on the way. Have you managed to find something similar in the not too distant future?

OO - thanks for that. Have got my online entry in - just hoping all the necessary documents uploaded OPK. Might have to give them a ring just to be on the safe side.

No running to report on for me - just 9 miles logged so far this month! My chest / throat infection (or whatever it is) is still there and having been out for a couple of slow 4/5 milers and found them quite hard work, I've decided to lay off the running for the next few weeks and focus on cycling which doesn't seem to be putting my body under the same strain.

A tad frustrating to say the least, but I could probably do with a bit of a break from running in order to come back rested and refreshed.

Will be commuting in on the bike for the next couple of days so that's 40 miles a day, and hopefully a couple of long ones over the weekend.

  • Sorry to hear about the motoring, Minni. Fingers crossed for a quick recovery.

Sorry to hear about the motoring, Minni. Fingers crossed for a quick recovery.

As I type, most of you should be snuggled in your beds, but I have one more sleep until I start my 55mpw, 18 week P+D leading up to the Humboldt Redwoods Marathon (northern California) on October 19. Target: 3:04 as a stepping stone to sub-3.

Looking forward to the first workout, which is a rest day. Yay! (I feel like I deserve it, as today's run was 14m with the first 4m gaining 1400 feet, only to lose ~2500 over the next 10. Quads crying.)

  • Gul DarrGul Darr ✭✭✭

Badbark - really sorry to hear of your DNF; sounds like an horrendous experience. Hope all is well.
Minni - oh no, that's awful. Get well soon.
Lorenzo - hope you're 100% again before long.
Rennur - enjoy the rest day.
Just a quick 3 mile recovery run today - hopefully I'll be in time to catch the early train.

  • AbbersAbbers ✭✭✭

Minni - flippin' 'eck, that sounds like a scary experience. Hope you're soon back on the bike, and your physio sorts out your on-going niggles too. Did the driver accept full responsibility?

BB - so sorry to hear that, sounds immensely frustrating and painful at the same time! Have a good rest and recover well.

Lorenzo - taking a while to shift those bugs. Continued healing vibes.

Well done to all the park runners, some good results being posted. And good to see Gul bagging good miles again, after recent frustrations.

Rennur - good luck on the start of another mara programme!

As usual, 10 for me early on Saturday morning, and then cricket in the afternoon. Nothing to report from yesterday, as didn't have the chance to get out.

  • PJFrizzlePJFrizzle ✭✭✭

BB - sorry to hear that, your training was so strong but your health is the priority

Minni - hope you are ok

Jools - great work on the park run, youre the boss now.

Abbers - I'm off to Lords this week for a 2 day leadership event, unfortunately it will be wasted on me as Scotsman who knows nothing about cricket!

Me - Like KR, in limbo at the moment so focussing hilss and interval work. Took receipt of a nice pair of Super J33 for fathers day yesterday so looking for ward to test drive later.

  • MinniMinni ✭✭✭

Thanks Guys.  Yes the driver accepted full responsibility.  I'm really worried about my knee, which is getting worse by the hour.  As the swelling goes down the pain increases.  imageimageimage

  • MennaniaMennania ✭✭✭

Minni - Crikey, sounds like a close shave - Might be worth getting that knee seen by someone as a precaution.

Booked the Nice - Cannes Run and sent my form off for VLM so two races sorted in a day. Just need to get some running done..
