Does anyone else out there have amazing runs (fantastic speed, joyous feeling, great determination) when they are pre-menstrual? I'm sure I'd beat Bolt when I'm due on.
Love all your answers! Sorry, not drunk (I don't drink), only bad bit for me is having sore boobs (I already wear 2 sports bras so I'm not adding another!). Stats def back up the feeling - I can never beat my PBs unless I'm due on!!!!
I've certainly known some women who I've felt could rip my head off at that time of the month. In seriousness, could there be something in that? That some women might be able to channel some additional aggression/energy at this time?
I hereby announce my ignorance of human biology. Does an average woman have more red blood cells leading up to menstruation?
NN: I'm pretty sure that the answer about blood cells is yes, but that post-menstruation you have fewer, hence female endurance runners of childbearing age are at an increased risk of anaemia.
I probably do run better shortly before, but first couple of days when menstruating are when I feel sluggish and vile and run like a tw*t.
First 2 days of menstruation I feel like curling up in a corner and sleeping. Oh, and doing a Suarez on anyone who wakes me up. I am also full of painkillers, so I usually make the effort and go of a run as it is the only time when my s*dding achilles niggles disappear amongst the hormones and the Paramol. I also feel great for a while after the run. Not trying to be contrary, but my times are usually slower for a few days prior and during my period, but better afterwards.
Maybe the being faster is so that they can catch their ideal mate? Kind of natures way of helping women select the best father for their offspring- even if he isn't overly interested?
Apparently vodka does the same thing...
Hahahaha- Does that mean that most prolific fathers out there are actually the slowest runners as they're the ones most easily 'caught'

If by 'fantastic speed, joyous feeling, great determination' you mean 'sluggish and lacklustre', then yes.
Sounds a bit like running while drunk.
Do the stats back up the feelings?
I always think that women have an advantage over men when they are on their cycles
Yeah, retaining 5lb of water and feeling like a giant sponge really gives you the edge.
So a bit like running with a Camelback?
yes but not as sweaty and without the irritating sloshing noise.

Brings a new meaning to "she's on for a new PB"
Anyone on a cycle has a distinct advantage over a runner

Apparently the really fast women runners don't even have periods.
I think I missed all this in biology. I know why plants are green though. I think.
And then add stroppy and sullen in as a result of the sluggish and lacklustre.
