I need Professional Help

Hi folks, look.  I am at my wits end.

I tried getting back into running 3 years ago, but the pains in my knees put me off again.  I started up again running on a grass track following a half marathon training program.  But the knee pain is back.  I have had my gait checked twice, and both times they have told me i am a severe over pronator.  Outer edge of my foot strikes first, and then instantly rolls inwards.  My left foot being the worse.

I bought some CurrexSole RunPro Med. to see if they would help in my New Balance 1226, but honestly they've made matters worse.  I find them exceptional in my walking boots, but not running with them.

I am all for buying a new pair of shoes next week if its going to help.  I've used http://www.activinstinct.com/shoeguide and it says i should be running in a neutral shoe.

So what's it going to be, a shoe like mine for over pronators, or a neutral shoe?

Finds friend with neutral shoes n borrow em for a run? Or go to sweatshop where you can exchange for a different pair within two weeks, so can try a neutral if it doesn't work swap for an extreme over pronator like the asics gt3000 or similar?

Either way, find some knee and hip strengthening exercises on Youtube etc and do them a couple of times a week, every week.  Works wonders image

  • Richard, if you are over pronating with your mid / forefoot you may want to try the Asics GT 3000. Exercises to strengthen the inside of your leg, as mentioned above, should form part of your routine too. Good luck.

  • It's difficult for you to judge how your foot is hitting the surface when your on a run.  Plenty of running shops video your running action in-store and supply footwear that corrects pronation issues.  Avoid the £20 bargain stores and pay a bit extra for some specialist help.
