I ran the Severn bridge half marathon yesterday. A hard run with a couple of brutal hills. I am running the great north run in two weeks and would like some advice on training and eating in the period between. I am also carrying an ankle injury.
Not really much you can do to increase fitness in 2 weeks, and similarly, you won't lose much, so just look after the ankle, do some short easy runs to keep the legs turning over, and eat healthily and drink lots of water.
Nev, congrats on doing the Severn Bridge half, i did it as well, it was a great event!
After the run yesterday i tried the quinoa, chicken and courgette recipe in this months runners world which is designed to aid recovery. I would recommend eating something like this after your hard training sessions. If you haven't got the latest copy of rw you should be able to find it on this site.
Thanks Rob, it was fun but thought the big hill was brutal. They need to improve the finish but will try again next year. I'm gonna try the chicken as well.
The hill was definitely a killer but i think i found the steady climb over the bridge the hardest because after the hill there was a sign saying it was all downhill and i wasn't prepared for a long climb to the finish. I agree that there are some minor things that they could improve on but i will definitely do it next year if they hold it.
