Hey green fairy are u running it? And laura I would advise not to get drunk mayb a galss of wine if u feel nervous, I have never run a ten mile race so looking forward to.getting a time down as near to an hour as poss
Hehe Green fairy glad u a regular runner me2, its just the 10mile race is the only ome I havent done, I am in training (tapering) for the bournemouth marathon on the 5th of october so as long as I dont over do it I will be fine for great south run, whats your fav distance? I love em all and yet to find a fav
I have decided to enter £4.10 per mile which makes it more expensive than the GNR last month. Haven't been to Pompey in ages having spent three years at uni there in the mid-90s so will be interesting to run around and see how things have changed. I will make up race pace as I go along I suspect and sneak in under 70 mins as if anything like the Great North it will be packed with runners from start to finish so will hamper any effort for a decent time.
Goalpost - There are three 'waves' of starts. Try to get close to the front of yours then after a bit of congestion for the first half mile you should find clearish road in front of you to help get a good time.
Really looking forward to it on the 26th ran bournemouth marathon on sunday and went well 3hrs 20m 50s and was injury free so all preperation is going well jus a few light runs needed fromm me until the 26th as i know i have plenty of stamina
i did the same as u rj, the bournemouth marathon, didn't get time i wanted as had real bad cramp, great day and course tho, will go back next year. This course looks quality, some great sights as dont really know portsmouths. when legs stop aching and can do a run will sign up, hopefully by the weekend.
I'm running my third time in order to encourage my wife who's doing this as her first big run.
Two pieces of advice 1) don't forget to enjoy it the crowds are amazing & 2) save some engery for the last two miles if it's windy (it normally is) the last two miles are straight into the wind (but the course is dead flat so that a bonus)

Yep, plenty
What would you like to know?
Don't get drunk the night before.....
Why not Ninedeuce? I ran 35:28 PB in stubbington this year after a proper all nighter on the Morgan's Spiced. I ran to form too!

Guinness does it for me.....
No you didnt. You just made that up....
Er.....this might not be the sort of advice you were thinking of Laura.
But it is advice
How do you intend getting there Laura? Trains are usually a nightmare as they annually have engineering works along by Havant.
Yep Runner Johnny I'm something of a regular now. Expensive to enter but I enjoy the day so look on it as a treat
I shall also be trying to get as near to an hour as possible but expect to fail by around 50 minutes! Which I'll be happy with.
Have you been training properly RJ?

I'm really excited, going out this morning to do 8 miles, my furthest run yet, 7 has been my furthest to date...
My cousin and I are traveling down by car on the Saturday.
This is my first "proper" event really, with chip timing anyway..
Exciting stuff!!
Good choice Laura. Well done for taking my advice

Jonnie, you'll never find a flatter course it's dead flat
I have seen bigger inclines on a treadmill than in the GSR....
