Just logged on for the first time in ages and see I'm not the only one with heel problems. Big lump on back of heel suggests Haglund's Deformity (heel spur). Waiting for results of an x-ray which I should have later today. Managed to do the Devil's Run 15k yesterday but was rurally sore this morning and hobbled for the first 10 minutes of our SOC run. Want to avoid surgery (if it is Haglund's) as will mean a minimum of 3 months not running and potential complications. To answer MC, cycling and swimming are okay for me - no problem. Good to see everyone's well (apart from me and Kate) and still getting up for SOC ing!
Afternoon all, hope those that are injured recover quickly without the need for surgery -
Alarm was set for 4:50 this morning, I must have hit the cancel rather than the snooze button, net result was my son waking me at 6 for his breakfast. So that is a rest day then!!!
X-rays show thickening of the tendon and calcification where the achilles attaches to the heel bone. Good news is that the bone itself is okay so hopefully physiotherapy/stretching calf etc will sort things out eventually. Also recommended is warming the affected area before running and icing afterwards. So on that note I shall head out for some mountain biking!
Morning all... Up and out today! Off to Bath for the day. Should be fun! Hiya Chris, good luck to you and Kate sorting out the spurs! What causes them any idea?
NW: Quiet one today. 1 owl, 2 cats, 2 dogs. 1 cyclist. I couldn't see the horses or cows in the fields when out. Too dark now, either that or they've been moved !
4:45 start, I noticed it is only our road where the street lights are out, plus no lights on the sea wall. Going to pick up a cheap head torch today, mainly because it wad still dark when I cycled my wife's bike home from her work. She needs lights. Anyway 6.69 miles run, approx 1.5 on her bike. 4 greyhounds, and, given the darkness, a far to black black Labrador.
Hey Kate, last year you said I'd overtake your marathon number this summer. Not sure what you're up to but #64 tomorrow. Not quite as many as Emmy. Tomorrow is just about attacking the aid station and collecting the medal as well as meeting up with the misfits.
Morning all - just a garage prance for me as track tonight. Managed a spin and swn last night, still can't quite remember how swimming works. 5.30, you are way ahead of me, I'm pretty much retired from running marathons now that ironman has it's grip on me, I think Sunday was 41. So, when you both hit the magic 100 will you ease off?
NW: 10 dogs. 7 of which were completely out of control, 1 attacked Boyska and i shouted at the owner in my best aggressive dutch (yes, she was on her phone and not watching).
5.30 - you're catching up on me! Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow
I'm trying to slow down Emmy! I will definitely drop lots of the tarmac marathons after 100. Will keep to trails and the odd ultra. Multidays will probably end too.
Lovely misty morning for a run. Got up half an hour earlier than usual to un-stiffen my achilles before heading out - seemed to work.
PSC - could be lots of things. Overtraining, too many hills, wrong shoes, not stretching enough or just one of those things! I have an entry for Snowdonia Marathon in a few weeks time so hoping I'll be able to do that but will probably be advised not to when I see the physio on Friday. Will probably ignore her advice though!
Track done, heel played nice. Good luck to the marathoners tomorrow. I think you'll be OK to leave the sun cream at home birky but you should get in some beautiful SOCing.
No early morning today as club tonight so a lie in. But no was woken just after 5 by my wife, some early morning rumpy pumpy? No the toilet is blocked, so my day starts with............ Left to your imagination.
Morning all - oh Grendel, what a beautiful start to the day. Nothing for me either, run and club swim tonight, should have been garage prancing but did the old dismiss rather than snooze trick on the phone buttons.

No, he was back to usual runner's uniform, but I don't think it will be too long before Vader makes another appearance.
Let's hope on wednesday for Tolkin's run... or alternatively he'll choose an inspired LOTR outfit!
Morning kate and emmy.
Meant to say that last week I saw my first snow plough of the winter

I've told myself I'll be running in 3 weeks, not months!
Afternoon all, hope those that are injured recover quickly without the need for surgery -

E mmy - two marathons in two days - if anyone needs a rest it's you!
It just means I won't Friday as a rest day now.

E mmy, the bling that explains it all.

One black Labrador (Geordie) is now dozing at my feet.

I need to stay in more.

Morning all,
Had a sense of humour failure today with NW:
NW: 10 dogs. 7 of which were completely out of control, 1 attacked Boyska and i shouted at the owner in my best aggressive dutch (yes, she was on her phone and not watching).
5.30 - you're catching up on me! Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow
No Ironman nonsense for me. That would kill me.
See you tomorrow Em.

Sensible man Chris.
Lots to catch up on
Mrs B and I are off to Lake District in a few weeks for a wee holiday. Booked it today.
Track done, heel played nice. Good luck to the marathoners tomorrow. I think you'll be OK to leave the sun cream at home birky but you should get in some beautiful SOCing.
