The Waterloo 15K was organised by Southport Waterloo AC but lapsed when the race organiser retired and no other club member was prepared to take over. In the early years it was organised by Waterloo Rugby Club
Boothy 4 sorry to hear some of your acquaintances had a poor experience at the event - all events are dependent on volunteers and sometimes they let you down.
Anyway life has moved on and there are lots of other good existing/new events on Merseyside/:Lancs/Wirral
Full list of past winners of Waterloo 15K is listed in the road running section of Southport Waterloo website. Also on the website is a spreadsheet of all Southport Waterloo AC members performances in the race
Also the Rochdale 20 which after a foot and mouth outbreak for 1 year became the Rochdale 21, everyone loved the new course that it stayed as the Rochdale 21, it used to be a great warmup for London Marathon, it was to be organised by Rochdale Harriers, no idea why it stopped
The Gloucester 10 mile race organised by Gloucester AC. Held in early January, it was always a good race for blowing away the Christmas and New Year cobwebs! I would love to see it back in the road race calendar.
Like all the European capital cities ours does have a marathon Seren, it is called the London Marathon (like Wimbledon for tennis and The Open for golf it is obviously the best one).Really when talking of capitals it is a bit unrealistic to talk of every little state, region or principality capital.
Scenic, very fast course with great facilities at the race HQ (a local secondary school). Cheddar RC used to put on fantastic cakes to eat afterwards as well!
Cardiff Marathon - all the other capital cities in the British Isles have a marathon - London, Edinburgh, Belfast, Dublin - why not Cardiff. It was a great event when I ran it - surely Cardiff has the resources to stage a marathon.
Picking up on a point made earlier, if yu really want a race back then perhaps you need to organise it! Usually a dedicated individual or very small team organise most of these races, usually for no thanks. When they step down, races often go. Ok sometimes due to councils/Police withdrawing support for road races or implementing silly Health and Safety rules. However if you really want a race back then do somehting about it.
Jeremy, yes bring back the New Forest Marathon and Half. I got my marathon pb in the NF in 1993. I believe the races were cancelled this year as they had problems getting a race committee together, but hope to bring them back next year.
Hi Hillstrider, Glad to see you are still running, We used to talk on another forum connected to our greatest ever distance runner at one time.
Lack of people prepared to organise. A common theme. People need to remember that next time they do a race and complain the fruit bar in the goody bag was the wrong flavour or some other minor gripe. People put a lot of effort in for no thanks usually and after a while decide it just isn't worth it.
Potteries Marathon has done just that BtB. A group of runners from local clubs have got together following a FB post asking about reviving the race. Coincidentally, 2 weeks later Runners World featured the race in its 'Bring Back' section
9 months later and they've just launched the race - happening on Sunday July 5th 2015
I saw the piece in the latest RW issue - has there been one on the Anglesey marathon yet (if so, must have missed it - which issue, to save me trawling through my copies - assuming my wife hasn't thrown it away!!)

What a great event this was, so good to hear it's being revived. "The Friendly Marathon" due to the fantastic locals of course, the course itself was not too friendly at all - the big question amongst many runners being which is the toughest, Potteries of Snowdonia?
On a more local front down here in Kent we've lost the Quicksand 15 (along the beaches & clifftops of Thanet) and the Cliffe Woods 10k which was a BARR silver graded event. In my opinion both would make welcome returns

The Coombe Bissett 10 mile. This was a mixed terrain race, and I last ran it in 1990, which I believe was the last time it was held.

Loved the Chester Zoo 10K

Thanks will do a bit of digging and try and find out more about the Rochdale 20. Thanks again and do keep them coming.
The Farndon 10k near Chester is back in October after a few years away - see www.cutefruitevents.com

Snowdonia has a marathon
Tenby has got the wales Ironman
Cardiff used to have a full marathon.
+1 for the Cardiff marathon to come back. Two laps of the current half mara would be acceptable.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions and do keep them coming. We are working on getting somemore in.
And this feature actually works- after our article in RW The Potteries Marathon is being revived!
cardiff is the only capital city in europe I believe that hasn't got a marathon......

Monaco is only 2.02km square and it even has a marathon
Cheddar Half Marathon.

Hi Brooks, are you still running?

Well still plodding HS....

Hi john
Not one on the Anglesey marathon yet but we'll get that I'm sure. Was it one you run a few times in the past?
I mentioned Anglesey very early on when this thread was started. Great marathon.
Thanks Terry. But there is another marathon on Anglesey isn't there. Is it Endurance who do it?
Does that route differ form the original one?
There is a new one bit it has no relation to the older one, both in terms of course and organisers and I think price.
Thanks Terry. I'm on the case! Have a good weekend.
James Herriot half marathon starting in Hawes was a tough but scenic run.
