A gratuitous plug for a very different running race being staged during the first weekend of the Olympic Games......
It's a 5km track race where runners complete eight laps of the track, and then have to eat three doughnuts, before heading on for eight more laps and the finish line.
All in aid of the Hampshire Autistic Society, which being held on Sunday, July 29th at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth.
Bet this is one race you've never tried before! Makes for an interesting risk assessment!

There's that race in America where you nee to eat something like a dozen krispey kremes.
Technicqie is to squash them all together - then throw up at the finish.
Camillia - the race is based on the Krispy Kreme Challenge in North Carolina, but I reckoned eating a dozen Krispy Kremes midway through a race was just gross! So three at the 3km point is a little more moderate!
Nice idea about the squashing doughnut technique, but have you seen how big those Krispy Kreme monsters are? Now that is messy!!!!
My other half (Cake - the names says it all really) could do it - that's his standard race nutrition. Shame it's too far away! Good luck though - I hope lots of people enter
Just to flag up that anyone who fancies taking part in the Doughnut Dash can enter on the day. The glazed Krispy Kreme doughnuts have been ordered and we're ready to go for the 5km race. Registration at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth is from 10am and the cost is a tenner which all goes to an autism charity.
does anyone know if this is happening 2015?
I would love to do it again it was brilliant
Did the doughnuts stay down during and after the run Grapes?
You need to get yoursen oop North then Gideon...
I have three 'athlons' pencilled in for this year...a Pieathlon, a Chocathlon and a Wineathlon

The Jam in a doughnut must be one of your 5-a-day.
I like the sound of these Pudge - I'll arrange to work in Halifax on the Monday so I can justify being in W Yorks on the Sunday. The wineathlon is similar to the Baccus event I've done a couple of times. 7 drink stations with wine on the HM or 14 for the marathon. Great fun
Pieathon? Chocathlon?? Wineathon???
Tough events B&T, don't underestimate them, they're not for the faint-hearted!
I can put the effort in - just let me draw up a tough training plan ...
