Flintstone - I ran in road shoes my first year and regretted it (blisters and sore feet).
You need to make sure that your feet can handle the ground underfoot. It's not just normal trail track but you're running on grass, stony trail, through tractor tracks. If it rains - I can foresee that trail shoes would be mandatory as you'd be sliding around.
this race has a variety of trail (stony/grass/mud) so a good quality trail shoe will hold you in good stead
BTW 50 places left in Larmer marathon 150 or so in Giants Head Spaces in the Ox 44 places in Bad Cow Saturday and Sunday each and we launched a new race Dorset Invader which will be a bit like Giants Head but more Romanesque
I have tried to book and pay for food (for the evening) online however cannot find anywhere in the shop to do so, is this option available yet or are you getting the OX sorted first?
I hadn't run offrtoad for years and just picked up an old pair of trail shoes from the box...either shrunk a little or something as I could feel by half way that both big toenails were going....downhills were very painful and still haven't completely regrown back properly yet....should haved tested them out..
This year I have rash off road every weekend so should be finishing with a bigger smile...

Thanks for the replies,
I've got my dancing shoes for Saturday night, I was hoping to get away with road shoes for the run. Are trail shoes recommended?

I wore pretty old Sauconys and wished I'd worn my trail shoes tbh - my feet were a bit sore by the end! Not blistered, just sore.

should be ok theres 89 places left btw

Millsy - I'd agree with Seren that trail shoes are a mandatory here especially if there's rain.
Really looking forward to this one and the camping.
