Thanks everyone. I plan to go home and try all the exercises. I managed to get some resistance bands from Sports direct in my lunch. Ideally I would have used a thera tube but don't have the time to order one and get it delivered for Sunday.
I already have a foam roller and I will get my other half to give me a couple of massages if she is willing lol.
I might try 3 miles on Friday night on the grass to see if there is any pain but fingers crossed I will be at the start line on Sunday and manage to fly through those hills to Bath pain free
Indie: when I was in rehab and recovery phase I found these worked really well at reducing the pain so you might want to try them for the race (you can get them in Boots or Sainsburys etc):
Really sorry to hear from people suffering this close to race day. Fingers crossed you all make it to the start line and if not its not long before you find another challenge.
Is anyone hear looking at the 4 hour mark? Looking at the pacing that's what I am aiming for
Good news - I haven't run fora week and my shin is feeling much better. It was tough resting it, and of course I'm worried about the lack of long runs in my taper period, but I'm sure I've done the right thing. I think.
Seren nos? First marathon? Have you done a half marathon recently? Is formula of doubling that time and adding 10-20 mins a clue?? Must admit that the hills present an unknown but there were ghastly hills at Chester and didn't affect time over the whole course....just don't be tempted to go too fast on all that flat at the beginning
Black and Tabby: I doubt you'll have lost much missing taper runs. They're more about conditioning than building Endurance so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Better to be feeling fit on the day than not
bev...done lots of long distance things in the past......just doing this as a training run so havent trained for it..I'm going for a proper marathon attempt next April when i will try for a GFA.....
so am interested in gauging where my fitness is at the moment....so tempted to go all out and see how far i can last ......and then walk jog home./
so not like a proper marathon attempt and not a strategy I would recommend for anyone trying to get a good marathon time.....
Oh dear Ian - hope its gone by Sunday. I've not been feeling 100% this week and am surrounded by people at home and at work with lurgies. So far I've avoided anything serious.
Not long to go now - starting to feel a bit nervous and am struggling to meet the daily carb requirements at this stage! I felt so bloated last night after my dinner and struggled to stuff my bagel into me this morning.
I've started loading today (whether I'm racing or not). Going to run home from work tonight 3 miles and see how I feel.
I'm a big eater generally anyway just adding a few more grams/mouthfuls to each meal based on the carb load calculator.
Feeling a bit weird myself but I think that's partly stress of possibily not racing/nerves of getting injured mid race and being doped up on painkillers.
After doing Half marathon over the last 4 year this is my first marathon and i am really looking forward to it. Good luck to all taking part, don't forget the clocks go back sunday morning!
This is gonna be my first marathon , ive done as much training as i could , not good when your ill and just can't find the time. Think i'm just gonna try and enjoy it, and spend some time in bath, , GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE, WE'LL DO IT TOGETHER
Heading off to Bristol this afternoon - though I'd do the 2 hour drive today rather than Saturday and just spend tomorrow chilling in the house. Really beginning to feel the nerves now but I guess that's just natural as this is my first marathon.
Hello again all. Not been able to get on here for a little while. Sorry to hear about everyone's ailments - I've been suffering too ... had a stomach bug that has wiped out all but 4 people out of a team of 15 at work - fortunately would appear that it's easing out now. Fortunately again I guess it happened in the last week of the taper - managed to go out for a few short 3 milers but ... impending gross out ... had a few dashes to the loo once I'd finished!!!
Still - it's so close now. I am very very nervous about this one - mainly because with the hills I've no idea how to approach it. But I guess I'll know come Sunday!!
Good luck everyone! Hope all the illnesses and injuries clear up!!!
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE RUNNING ON SUNDAY , PRETTY NERVOUS BEING MY FIRST MARATHON , BUT WE'LL ALL BE THERE TOGETHER FEELING THE SAME PAIN AND SMILES AS WE FINISH
Not running this myself but have been keeping an eye on thiscthread with a view to running it next year as it's fairly local to me. Looking forward to reading your race reports later! Good luck to everyone-looks like conditions are ideal so enjoy!
