Fat face- is that breathable or completely waterproof? I've seen one on a parkrunner and it looks nice- just not much good if it is like a boil in the bag jobby.
It does look nice- as I said, saw one at parkrun. I asked the fella if it was breathable but he just said he did it know- it was an Xmas pressies form his wife. As he'd been running in it- I chose not to grab it and do the breathe through test.
Will pop into sweatshop and see if they have one in stock and get a proper feel.
Matalan have introduced a sportswear(running) range under their 'Easy' brand. The tshirts and vests are 8-10quid. look ok and are very light weight. There is a pair of twin shorts that I would have bought if they had my size, because they were well made, light and easily worth the ??12 pricetag.
Their is also a couple of running jackets. One waterproof and the other waterproof, but they are a bit dear for what they are when compared to the Aldi and lidl stuff that they are competing with.
Looking at all of it, Ronhills stuff is obviously what they have looked at and used as a starting point before making changes to avoid design infringement and costs.
Worth a nose if you have a Matalan near you and you want some bits.
I only found out recently that a club mate of mine gets most of his running shoes from TK Maxx. I find it can be a bit chaotic looking through stock but definitely worth a look. Last time I checked they had (last year's model??) Brooks Ghost and Brooks Transcend (I think) going for 40 quid. Various Nike models in the past.
I didn't buy any shoes but I did pick up five pairs of socks for six pounds.
Even better than TK Maxx, Start Fitness had their usual stall at the national road relays yesterday, with lots of "last year's model" type bargains. Brooks Defyance 5, 35 quid. Thank you very much!
Aldi has running gear in today. My most local store also has plenty of cycling and mountain biking gear left too. Hats, gloves and gillets are very good value.
If you're into cycling gear, look out for any new aldi stores opening near you, they are struggling to shift it and are moving it to new stores and reducing it heavily for opening day sales.
I just ordered 4 pairs of injinji mini crew socks (White XL) for the unusually low price of 4.46 each (17.84) plus 4.99 postage (total 22.83 I think) from a seller on Amazon.
If you search for 'injinji coolmax' the price shows up about in the first 5-10 items listed. You have to select white and xl then go into other buying options and it is there.
If you are after some thermals, gloves hats etc then Sub Zero Store have some bargains at the moment. I should have a very happy (and warm) hubby after buying him some decent baselayers for his winter training.
Sportspursuit have the white/silver Newton Men's Distance S IV for £67.99 today, which is a hell of a deal.
(It's a very fast 2mm drop road shoe with very mild stability, so fine for the neutral crowd too. If you're not used to lower drops, you'd be wanting to ease into it with shorter runs.)
If you're not a SportPursuit member, you could send me a private message with an email address, and I could send you an invite, which would wangle me a fiver when you order However, if you've no wish to accidentally subsidize my running gear addiction, then you can always register normally (which is quicker, I suppose).
I bloody love me some Newtons, trying to tell myself that I don't need yet another pair, even if it's a killer deal.
"deadly2", new user, first post, check. Appears to have something to "promote", check.
We have an astroturfer, repeat we have an astroturfer, open fire!
(Also, astroturfing is stupid. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth, as you just remember that the brand is slimy and dishonest, using sock puppets to push gear.. )
Kattefjaes - Thanks for the heads up. I recently got a pair of Newton BOCO AT's (trail shoes) and whilst they are perhaps closer to 'normal' trainers than 'true' Newtons I quite like them so have been having a look at these.
In doing a bit of reseach on these I see that you can get 50% off a range of styles directly from newtonrunning.co.uk so I think I'm going to treat myself to a pair from there (trying to decide between the Gravity @ £70 or Distance @ £67.50 - I have to confess, I'm struggling to tell the difference in them or which might be faster over the longer distances - I would have thought 'Distance' but I'm not so sure!!)
Yes - that's where I got mine from, I meant to post on here but then forgot and they all seem to have gone now. I've only done 3 x 10 milers in them, just down the canal towpath so not extreme off-road but with some soft muddy sections with lots of leaf mulch and I quite like them!
Oh, good catch, Phil! Ok, that's horribly tempting.
Yes, the Distance should theoretically be the "faster" ones, they have a lower weight, lower drop etc.. They both list as having POP1 lugs, which are at the more extreme end.
Bear in mind that the lugs on the Distance and Gravity will be pretty hardcore- which will make them feel REALLY weird when you walk, though of course they feel amazing as you run, assuming you're a mid/forefoot striker.
I love my Motion IV to bits, though- easily my favourite shoes. I really am not going to try and dissuade anyone but the most committed heel strikers from sipping the delicious Newton kool-aid.

Not sure Gideon, I really doubt it'll be waterproof. But as jackets go, I'd say it's a bargain for that price.
Will pop into sweatshop and see if they have one in stock and get a proper feel.
Cheers.

More for the cross trainers / triathletes than the pure runners, but wiggle currently have ladies DHB 2014 Ride London cycling tops for £3 http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-womens-prudential-ridelondon-surrey-100-jersey/ Currently have sizes 6,8,10,12.
Might be useful as a cheap top for someone!

Not sure on whether it is cheap or not, but Aldi is usually competitive. Buyers compare!
More Aldi running gear on the 16th.

Rather bright green though.
