Mapmyrun friends?

Hi all,

just getting back in to running and using mapmyrun to log for me.   I'm doing 5-10k at the moment and I'm looking for friends to add as its quite motivating to see others completing their runs.

I live in Surrey, 46 years old and My user name is Twincle1970

Unless of course mapmyrun is so last year and their is a more popular app to use? image

Strava. But only add real life friends that you know. Adding strangers is strange.
  • Strava is better if you want to see other people, I don't think its too odd for people who don't know each other to follow each other on Strava. Its something that strava encouarges by suggesting people who you should follow.

Fair enough. Just my opinion on the following strangers bit. I don't really get Facebook either though.
  • Thanks guys, lol np with adding strangers on specialist sites.  I've 70 'friends' on myfitnesspal I've never met beforeimage I'm surprised its so hard to add 'buddies' on mmr, will d/l strava later

  • I used to use MapMyRun but found it temperamental. On more than a few occasions it either decided to pause or measure short.

I have used Strava for about five months now, it's amazing. I'm quite lucky that there are quite a lot of runners in work, including some crazy ultra runners and iron man competitors.

There are also some professional athletes on Strava who you can follow...

It's also got a segments feature which is really great. You can either create your own or find a segment that has been created by another user and compare times.
  • Hi, I am a postgraduate student at the University of Liverpool, and I am conducting research as part of my postgraduate dissertation. The aim of this research is to understand how understandings of health and fitness are impacted by the social interaction on MapMyRun. I aim to address this question through researching the social surveillance on MapMyRun and the perceived impacts of this, the role the app plays in understandings of health and fitness and the motivations behind making use of MapMyRun’s ability to share data on other forms of social media.

As part of this research I am conducting online interviews and I am looking for English speakers (16+) to take part. These can either be on via email, an online chat platform, video or telephone depending on your preference. The interviews should not take more than half an hour. If you would like to volunteer to take part, please could you email me on sgofletc@liverpool.ac.uk and I will be in contact to arrange an interview. Thank you!
