Hi.
I'm new here and I'm unsure if this is the correct place/forum for my question:
I ran the London marathon in 2013 and have lost my medal.
Does anyone have any ideas (all appreciated) where I can possibly try to replace mine? I have checked eBay but nothing for 2013 (gold and rectangular).
Thanks in anticipation.

That sounds positive!
The 2012, 2015 & 2016 medals are going for between £10 and £20 on eBay.
I'd rather get a price then make a decision.
There's one on eBay right now.

That's an official's medal, not a finisher's medal, though.
Yes, just spotted that. Oops.
I do quite like my 2013 medal due to its amusing resemblance to a Jim'll Fix It badge, though would also be slightly interested to know how much the OP thinks it is worth.
That medal is from 2012 (it's silver), 2013 is gold.
£25?
Best way is keep looking on ebay and be lucky. Not many will sell their medal unless they desperate.
I have a few London medals. But would rather sell the dog than those.
Well it will have to be the missus. A beautiful black collie with a bad temper. Which very much remind me of the missus.
Speak for yourself; it had never occurred to me to sell my finisher's medals before, but I saw that a few people on the forums were doing so and it turned out that 'would I rather have a 2016 participation medal or 85 quid?' was quite an easy question to answer. I don't have a dog.
To the OP - sorry, I'm still not sure about 2013. As you can see from the above, I am the sort of soulless monster who would sell my dog if I had one, so I'm not normally that sentimental about these things, but 2013 is a more attractive medal and it was my first marathon. Someone else might see the thread and help out though.
Do people really buy these things?
I'd say the officials medal is a comparative rarity; and if showing off about being a team player in some sort of hideous employment scenario, a much more valuable item.
Of course, with an officials medal, you won't have to deal with the issue of someone checking your finish time out.
🙂
Yes they do, Ric! I got £85 for this year's and only £31 for last year's, which just goes to show that you need to strike while the iron is hot. Next year's medal will be straight on ebay the day after the race.
Aren't there something like 5000 volunteers at London? No idea if they all get a medal, but if they do then even though there are fewer official medals overall, there may be a lot more people prepared to sell one. There are usually more 'official' medals than finisher medals for sale on ebay.
Pretty sure we were offered officials medals for helping on the water station at London. I also have one for helping at the mini marathon.
Message me through here.
