Hi TBO2 ..... good job at London. Hope you're back in the hat today. It was perfect running conditions compared to Paris. Paris was amazing though and a lot of fun .... and a very scenic course. That was my 3rd Paris and 3rd London. I'm back for London next year and skipping Paris probably until 2018. I'll still remain here on this thread as this is my "home" on RW image

  • Hi all, just a quick catch up with the new thread. Orbutt thank you for the finishers vid, it's really good and brought back great memories of the day. TBO2 well done on your London run that's a great improvement on your time in Paris, I don't think I could have run a marathon last weekend. I don't think that I'm the only one, but I was wiped out for the first two weeks. It didn't help that I picked up a bit of an injury on my ankle, I selfdiagnosed tendinitis, so had a complete break from running until last weekend I ran the Shakespeare half marathon in 1:54:04, I was quite happy as I didn't push myself as I was worried the ankle might flare up again. Yesterday was Birmingham 10k and I did 47:28 which I was very pleased with, a new pb! I even managed to run all the way up the hill, a first for me! It was great conditions for a run, a bit of a breeze and about 11C, I did enjoy it. No more races entered for a bit now but I'm sure I will soon weaken!

AspirantRunner - Well done on the 10km PB!

  • TBO2TBO2 ✭✭✭
AspirantRunner-great time, i can only dream of going that fast!

Jimbob Paris was fun, i agree and that was my first time there but third time London like you. I have to say i was staggered that the in between period went well and ive recovered really well-ive been out running short runs. I havent got a challenge yet but can see it will be difficult to resist with this thread!

Hi all, hope everyone has had a fun bank holiday weekend and good running for those who ran.

Thanks again Eggy and to Benign Murmurring, Baldstan and HIAHS for your input. I will continue to run and build the mileage and get used to the long distances and discomfort. I'll also take a look at FIRST too. I need to deal with my weight which is going to be a big challenge. I need to shift a stone before the end of the year and before starting a training programme for Paris.

My brother has signed up for Paris next year. I have told him about this fab forum so he should be signing up soon. Have a good week folks. Looks like it will be getting warmer in London, I've got to say i'm happy about that image

AspirantRunner- well done on your PB I also enjoyed the Birmingham 10k good conditions and also did a PB of 45:48 which I was really happy with.

I also ran the Shakespeare half and enjoyed it, a pity we did not meet up and have a chat!

Hope everybody had a good weekend running or otherwise!

Hope everyone had a lovely lazy long weekend like I did... or did you do some actual running?! I did manage a few bimbles around, but not sure if would even classify me as a half marathoner in training let alone a marathoner... My birthday week is over, holiday is cancelled so this week I'm back on the straight an narrow with a gradual intro into a life without cake or anything good starting today.

Slightly delayed due to the bank holiday, I hope all the racers survived the weekend:

Thanks Nells list faerie! Please can you put me down for Tromso midnight marathon?

Did 10k yesterday at Breckland (near Thetford). Lovely race in the woods but it's right hoomid so was glad of  the vest and shorts combo. Mr KS ditched me after two miles as my right gluteus flared up. He didn't really, I encouraged him to go on without me image

First two miles were 8ish min/mil then the rest were about 8.30s (barring a 9.30 in the middle where i stretched and waited for a friend to catch up). 54:25 for me and a stonking 50:23 for Mr KS, officially beating my PB!

Good race, good medal and even a plastic water bottle at the finish. Well marshalled, very friendly and only £14. Good tea and cakes too.

  • Hello all, hope everyone had a good weekend. Something of an epic trek for yer maj and me on Sunday in the Brecon to Cardiff race. Definitely not your average big city road race - beautiful scenery though, even if it rained most of the way. Back in training again, though I might give the speed work a miss this week image.

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend. I only have a 10K but that'll be quite enough with this warm weather!

  • TBO2TBO2 ✭✭✭

good luck Tired Legs-ill be with you in spirit though sadly not in race!

TBO2 you wouldn't have wanted to be there-was 25 degrees, far too hot! I did enjoy the pub after though!

  • TBO2TBO2 ✭✭✭

    Well done you!

  • I'm glad I wasn't racing this weekend, couple of easy runs in the sunshine for me - would have been grim trying to go for a time in this neck of the woods. Well done everyone who was out there.

Hi Running Rodent, i did go out quite late on Saturday morning and the temperatures reminded me of Paris. I saw a 10k today near where i live and the runners looked exhausted so im with you! Im impressed with anyone who raced.

  • Andy-W-Andy-W- ✭✭✭
Wow was it hot today at Leeds half ... 3:10 slower than last year finishing in 1:40:02 which I thought was ok actually given the heat.

Can the list fairy please add Leeds Half Marathon 2017 on 14th May 2017 (will be my 8th successive Leeds HM.

Only 3 weeks to Liverpool Rock n Roll marathon now!

Hope everyone survived the heat yesterday. I didn't manage to see all of you at Hackney, but did catch up with KeyserSuze and started off with her and her friend. I was later than I'd hope for getting there (thanks Northern Line and your overrunning engineering works!) but not too bad. It was nice and scorching, so took it very easy and was thinking anything close to 2:30 would be fine by me (my PB is 2:08, current form could possibly achieve a 2:10 on a good day - fast I am not image) so was very happy to come in with a 2:27:02 including a sprint finish, though I have no idea where the sprint came from. Chucked the bottle of water I'd been carrying from mile 12 over my head once I'd crossed the finish line. I don't think I've ever seen as many water stations in a race in my life, 7 in total, with (I think) 3 handing out Lucozade Sport as well. The people of Hackney will surely be bathing in Lucozade for the next month! I read later that they told the 3 hour+ runners still out there to walk to the finish as it was so hot. Great weather for the support crowd (which were brilliant as ever - I think this is the reason why I've gone back three years running despite the fact that the start/finish are such a pain to get to with a long walk from any train/tube stations) and lots of people offering hose-pipes for runners and little kids with water and jelly babies. I reckon I'll be back again next year, it might be the year they get better running weather, but hopefully the crowds will still be there.

Well done to those that ran in tough conditions yesterday.

Now someone tell the weather gods that Copenhagen has to be nice and cool on the 22nd!

    Hi list fairy,

could you add Donnington 10 miles to the list on 26 June. Thanks.

well done to all running yesterday I did a 8 mile training run at 9am and it was already very warm then!

  • OrbuttOrbutt ✭✭✭
I did a big old run yesterday and little Orbutt was not a happy bunny. The last 5k was like Paris re-visited, including the walking.

Probably the toughest training run I've ever had.

Fingers crossed for a return to British weather over the next few weeks.
