For anyone thinking about entering this marvellous race next year. It's an "up" run and most runners prefer those. It's a definite possibility that I will be back for #5.
I have booked the hotel....hoping that my running legs get back to me by september so i can enter.......already booked Abingdon as my marathon qualifier....
SoS - A ridiculously long wait at Pietermaritzburg to get on a bus - I mean hours - and even then more torture as it goes nowhere for more hours - it is one of the mysteries of the universe that the organisers can be so dreadfully bad at this. You buy a ticket at the expo to sign up for this delight and need to show the resultant wrist band to get on the bus - don't leave it on your hotel room table like some idiot did last up run best to wear it all day; it is pretty indestructible.
Another must-do - if you check a tog bag in (which you can do at the expo rather than on race morning if you want) is to write the tog bag tag number on the reverse side of your running number then you don't need to remember it... I really confused myself with this last year on taking my number off and assuming it had washed off - I'd pinned the number I had written it on to my back .
I'm really not sure about this you know... run it both ways, achieved the back-to-back... isn't that enough for one lifetime... why am I here... am I insane...
All being well that is, also Abingdon entered as qualifier Seren Nos, La Rochelle as back up, don't intend to leave it until Shakespeare like last year. A serious go this time around, if I can get my poo together, unlike the last two.
had my fastest parkrun since February today.still way off my normal pace but its going in the right direction....hoping this summer with 4 months off from Uni then my energy levels will return...I know my body can still do endurance events as I have done them the last 2 weekends....but with no speed or strength... just need to get that back and i will be ready to go
I've no idea why I'm looking at this thread, as having done the past 2 ( and loved the experience) think I should have a change next year..... So no plans to do again, but already looked at the Hilton website and am posting on here... So who knows
RR - right now chewing on some braaied boerewors (not furniture) with a few tins, watching, sounds like an eminent idea for next year I haven't looked at the Hilton site - honest!
Dannirr - can you seriously visit just to watch have you done that before?
Oh lord, I spoke/entered too soon, entered a 10k for the 26th yesterday and pulled my left hamstring and right calf this morning. No warning no twinges and simultaneously - a first. Don't think the hamstring is anything much but the calf is a different matter. Both legs at once so I thought it was cramp even though I don't really get cramp, soon changed my mind about that.

Hello
Well, I suppose I ought to...
Hi seren. Have you booked the Hilton in Durban. Was looking at it yesterday. Also had Abingdon in my mind for my marathon qualifier but it's full.
Does it matter what marathon we do?
keep telling people I'm doing this one next year so I guess I'll have to.... But it's a long way????
Looking forward to everyone's expertise and experience. Tough times ahead
yes i booked the hilton in Durban...
not sure about what marathons count
Abingdon allows transfers and there are always places for sale closer to the date
Hello new thread. Hope y'all don't mind me hanging about even though I won't be there in 2017
seren - welcome aboard. I used Abingdon as the qualifier for my first Comrades. Nice, fast course. The Hilton is a great location.
RR - hello
SD - fancy seeing you here!
SSnail - they are pretty relaxed about which marathons can be qualifiers. I've used Abingdon, Shakespeare Raceways, Seville and Kosice, as I recall.
Dannirr- great to see you here, even if you won't be running this year.
This day next year.
A year today...exciting . Training starts........parkrun today...
I'm in as well ..... again
You lot are bad people............
I thought this was the supermarket check-out; where are my bananas?
Ooh a year today. I'm starting with a good old fashioned day off
stupid question. How do you get back to your hotel in Durban at the end of the day

I will be back for sure. It's in my own backyard so I don't have any excuses. Still trying to figure out where I left my legs last Sunday.

Hope you had fun at your half marathon Mc Hilly. And you know its a dangerous game posting on here. It will entice you back.....
Well done on your HM, McH.

you could be the forums official seconder??
It would be difficult to watch and not run, but I could do it. It all depends on how MDS goes.
