Have a great time Christopher Field. I was in Marseille to watch England v Tunisia in France '98. I had a memorable time!

If anyone is venturing out to the Southend Half Marathon on Sunday then make sure to say Hi. I am the official pacer for 2 hours 15 mins. I have a special feather flag and everything!

Good luck everyone running and racing this weekend.

List fairy could you please add Telford 10K 11th Dec and this Sunday I'm doing last minute entry of Severn Valley Trail run 10K.

Good luck to everyone else running in this warm weather!

Tired legs you are right it was warm yesterday so i only did a half on the Phoenix run but it was fun though because you cant help nodding and smiling at other runners when you are running laps! Hope everyone else had a good time

Morning all! How was the day off Nodster...?!

I hope Christopher has survived the football so far. Looks like a massive mess all round over there. I had family in Bordeaux (YAAAAAAAAAY Wales!) so glad all was (relatively) quiet there. Slightly concerned about the ones going over for the Russia game though, hopefully they'll have sorted out the policing etc by then image

Anyways, good luck Tromso and South Downs runners keeping all germ laden peoples at bay for the week ahead. Sorry to be sitting this one out as well, but will add it to my list of ones to try and get to another time...

Day Off went well thanks Nells, bit warm but good to catch up with TBO2 who ran well.

Hope your run went well LloydR, a big one, was thinking of you.

Next stop Tromso, and then a bit of a rest I think image

Well done TBO2 and Nodster. It was warm this weekend, wasn't it. I only did a 10K but it was a super hilly trail/muddy field one! Nice heavy thunder storms and warm weather, with those hills meant a tired grumpy person last night.

Well done Tired Legs-too hot for running! Looking at November races now...

Off to Tromso tomorrow for the Midnight Sun Marathon. Looking forward to catching up with a few regulars here.

Still not sure about the race plan. One part of me wants to make up for a poor run in Copenhagen. The other part of me thinks I've hardly trained since then after being ill so should just coast it. I'll make my mind up on the start line.

Just been offered discount to run Manchester marathon 2nd April at 35 pounds due to running a short marathon in 2013.

    Tempted.

However I am running Liverpool marathon end May. I did same this year with Paris then Liverpool finishing 3:32 and 3:30 respectively. The previous year I ran Liverpool in 3:26 (current PB) and wondering if running Paris impacted my performance. It was very hot on the day in Liverpool and only a few mins out so I'm not sure.

Then there's the possibility of also getting in London 3 weeks later which I've booked accommodation for, so entering would potentially mean Manchester, London, Leeds Half and Liverpool over an 8 week period ... Is this too much? Can I expect decent times if I put all into Manchester for a PB.

It would be my second marathon in London and 3rd successive marathon in Liverpool ... My first full distance marathon in Manchester as the previous course was 385 yards short.

Any advice if I get in all three (should I try). I was thinking hit Manchester hard, then soak up atmosphere in London for reasonable but not PB time then try and smash Liverpool without any real focus on distance training in between. I'm just worried if I don't PB in Manchester I'll feel I've spoilt my chances of a PB in Liverpool especially if I also get in London.

I'll stop rambling now and pause for advice off the machines that are out there on this forum.
  • Good Luck to all Tromso runners this weekend.  Have a great time, keep safe and BE EPIC.....  image

  • The JimbobThe Jimbob ✭✭✭

Andy .... I ran 3 marathons in an 8 week period this spring with good results at all 3 .... the 3rd one was the quickest (and best conditions). I intentionally sacked half marathons from the plan that I would have usually done as they can take a lot out of you as I wanted to run well in the marathons.

I reckon you could go for it. If you don't get a PB in Manchester and you really want to go for it in Liverpool .... me personally, I would either sack Leeds or run it at long run / training run pace .... so you don't batter yourself too much for Liverpool.

If you run Manchester and you do get into London ... you won't be doing much in between, after London you'll need 10 day minimum recovery and then you can put together a "mini-plan" for Liverpool that includes some short hard tempo runs, an 18 and a 20 mile long run and a 10 day - 2 week taper.

If you don't get into London then you have an extra week for the mini plan ..... and if you want to really blast a half marathon in the spring maybe look for a fast one about 5-6 weeks before Manchester?

Hi Andy, I am also looking at doing the Manchester marathon and also hoping to get into the London one and just doing a half in Liverpool with the Chester half a couple of weeks before. I was thinking of running manchester as hard as I can for a pb as I have heard it's very flat and taking the rest as they come and see how I feel.

Well done to all last weekend and good luck this weekend.

I had a great time in Marseille last weekend but had a brilliant time yesterday in Lens where I travelled with Daniel Sturridges brother and uncle and met up with Daniel after the game for a chat and some photos. Amazing!

list fairy- not running the Arden 9 mile Sunday as I am off to st-etienne for the last game in the group and just see what happens after.

    Thanks Chris, thanks Jimbob.

Jimbob, that is very good advice especially re Leeds half and doing as marathon pace run.

Leeds isn't a PB course anyway but is a local club race. My half marathon PB is a flat and cold Brass Monkey (January in York), so I won't be desperately trying to get a half marathon PB at that time of year and I've run Leeds every year since 2010. It would be good to run it without killing myself ... It's s tad hilly in the first 7 miles then downhill most of the way back.

So basically it'd be Manchester plus three weeks recovery then London plus two weeks recovery Leeds half at MP the week after a 20 mile easy pace run then two week taper to Liverpool .... Sounds like a nice simple plan (would be a shame to defer London if I get the chance!!!!)

Chris - the early bird catches the worm ... Watch this space!!!

    Hi list fairy,

Could you please pop me down for Manchester Marathon on 2nd April 2017

I can always rely on this forum to help me make good decisions! (33 pounds BOOM!!!)
  • OrbuttOrbutt ✭✭✭

TBO2 - thanks. I knew about your change, as you told us.

Scrambledlegs - more apt than HeatherS ? Funny though.

  • Another one in Tromso for Midnight Sun (although Midnight Rain might be more appropriate). It's weird here - it does feel like the top of the world. And how do you prepare for a race starting at 8:30pm? Good luck to anyone racing this weekend (and anyone snorkelling at Glastonbury....)

  • Hee Hee, sorry, not trying to confuse, just a change, to keep me motivated!

Good luck you Midnight Runners, looks amazing up there, good running conditions?  Looks about right for me.

I'm about to get out for the first time this week - pulled a groin muscle and glute in the butt, so been a very unhappy hobbling old biddy and it's telling.... image

Lost the mojo, but need to pick it up quick or I can quite easily become a Sofa Footy Surfer image

Take it easy you peeps up on top of the world, and everyone else running/racing or just enjoying the foot.....Be Epic.

  • List Fairy - Could you please add me on for the Manchester Marathon 2nd April. This time last year Paris was a definite one off never to be repeated and somehow I've now signed up for number 3!!!
