  • Oh no, sorry to hear that Orbutt. Worth getting it checked out or is it familiar ?

  • Looking for a bit of advice folks.Im into taper mode now, loch ness is 2 weeks today.I usually do my long runs on a Friday but I've been ill since Wednesday.I had a 13 mile run scheduled for my long run on Friday past.I could probably manage an hour or so today, should I just write off the long run for last week and start my new week as planned or just do it tomorrow.cheers
  • Jokeybhoy - how are you feeling? If you're back to normal you might do your longer run but if you're still not 100% I'd say just concentrate on recovery and write off last week's run. You won't get any fitter between now and race day, it's more about resting and keeping things ticking over.
  • Running rodent: cheers for the reply.Still not feeling 100% so I'll just stick to shorter runs and concentrate on getting ready for the race
  • You don't gain or lose much during taper. The hard work of training is done. Rest up mate and get healthy for the start line.

Kilmacolm half marathon for me this morning. Happy with my 1:39:07 time. Good small event, nice course, good tshirt, naff medal.
  • Well done Eggy.. I enjoyed GNR too. I started a little cautious with a sore lower core, slight groin dull pain. Anyway this paid off as I felt much stronger in the last few miles:

I have Chester in 3 weeks so considered going out at marathon pace but ended up quicker.

Nodster, I think I'm more of a Paris every other year so perhaps I'll be back in 2018 for third year (2014/16/18).

    Morning everyone!

I'm still managing to keep up with my plan for Valencia! Yay! Did mean I ended up missing Bacchus yesterday though as didn't want to risk overdoing it too soon, amongst other excuses... Still 10 weeks to go and already getting close to the higher number of miles on long runs. I've never ever been this organised with running in my life. Something's bound to go horribly wrong any day now...

Sounds like a good weekend running for all - well done on the half Eggy - that's an amazing time!

Well done Nodster. I love reading your race reports.
  • Great report Nodster.

  • A great read Nodster ... Keep up the great work
  • Hi all! This will be my first ever marathon... can't wait for it! I'm hoping it's cool on the day, although that might be wishful thinking.

  • kennokenno ✭✭✭

Hello Ryan!  Tell us your number and pen and we'll add you to the list.  Loads of knowledgeable people in here who can offer you good advice - they're nice people too!

  • Thanks kenno! My number is 33449, starting in the purple pen. Looking forward to reading everyone's thoughts image

  • Welcome to the thread ryantilley.

Paris was my first marathon back in 2014 and I'm back for my third Paris in 2017. You've made a great choice. Both my runs have been on the warm side so I'm hoping we're due a cool one too.

  • ryantilley - Welcome to the thread!

You'll love Paris. I'm going back for the fifth time. Weather wise it's been warm more than cool in the years I've ran it. Although I remember my first time there in 2012 being a nice cool temperature.

  • Evening all,  another Paris first timer here. I've done about a dozen marathons but never outside of SE England so thought it about time I find out how well I travel.

    Yellow (objectif 3:15) - 10207

I've a few bits and pieces to run before April but really looking forward to it.

  • Hello new people. You've picked a good one. Paris is still my favourite - run it five times, supported twice, back supporting again next year. Anything you need to know - have a look at the first two pages here, there's lots of factual stuff. Or if that doesn't answer your questions, ask away. There's bound to be someone here who can help, and is only too keen to go on and on about Paris to anyone who's interested image
  • Maccatheknacca - Welcome to the thread!

  • Welcome Macca and Ryan ..... you've come to the right place. Wish I was joining you next year.

  • Morning All. Welcome Newbies Macca and Ryan.

Congratulations Nodster on your 15th Marathon of 2016 yesterday. That's quite an impressive haul. Not long till we are both Stateside for the big one early November. Also Congrats to 00-53 for his tidy early Autumn Marathon at Hull. Considering you didn't put in a proper block of training, that is a very decent performance up there.

My training continued last week with high mileage and a very long run yesterday with a few pals - 23 miles plodded out ..... couple of big hills at horrible moments late in the run, but mainly a tourist run, stopped for a selfie outside Buckingham Palace half way round. It was a very good session and I was very hungry for the rest of the day. I backed off the pace for the last 2 weeks and will also back off (slightly) on the mileage this week as I approach my "tune-up" half marathon at Cardiff on 2nd Oct.  I currently have "no blast" in the legs .... but want to give a meaningful eyes out hard run in Cardiff (not PB but hopefully within a few mins at least) so I can gauge current fitness so I can set realistic targets for the goal race in the Big Apple.

Will try to run a few miles in my lunch hour to breathe a bit of life back into the legs and general pelvic area ..... I'm dog-tired image

    Happy Monday everyone!

Looks like lots of good running this weekend. I had my first proper FAIL at following the plan. Should have done a 19/20 miler, but left it too late and at my pace there just wasn't enough time to get it done without annoying my nearest and dearests, so ended up doing tomorrow's easy 6 miles instead... I'm going to set a silly o clock alarm for tomorrow and hope I can stay awake to get a full day's work done afterwards. image

    And welcome all newcomers!

Every Monday, the List Fairy (currently me) publishes a list of upcoming events that people are signed up to. A good way to see if there's someone doing the same event as you and meet up, or even just to be inspired to sign up for something yourself. If you want something added, or your name added to an event already there, then mention it in a post and it should be on there the following Monday!

  • Hi All, did the Trail Maniak 35k on Saturday in Carinthia, Austria. Very difficult race with heavy Rain in the beginning. More than 3000 Ft. Incline. I finished after 5h7 min, and I think I was the oldest Finisher because there was no Finisher in the over 60 Group.

    This week is for recovery.

    Keep on!
  • Franz - Well done! That sounds like a really tough event. Enjoy your recovery week.

  • Hi Eggyh, thanks a lot!

Yep, my coach says that the most important part of my training is the recovery.
  • Thanks for the welcomes and adding me to the list.

Nodster - I think we may have been pounding the same stretch of Kent tarmac yesterday.  Congratulations on no 15.
