Well that's me and Bunny Poo sorted for next year IM Copenhagen again. Seriously guys this should be considered for a pirate sailing. Great race flat and fast so suit first timers Entries now open !
Copenhagen for me again MC I enjoyed it so much and a lot of my mates are going back for seconds so it seemed rude not to you would like Copers very fast and scenic bike
Barcelona is a lovely place, but it doesn't have an Ironman. There is one called IM Barcelona, but it's nowhere near the city. Those people from our club who have done it said that the atmosphere was flat and the course was boring. Only saying.
There were many discussions about where to go next year and the suggestions were wide and varied... but here is a summary:
We should go somewhere other than the UK, Europe probably better than USA on cost basis.
We should try somewhere new
Somewhere with lots of entries sitll open
if possible school holidays but not essential
Which gives us the following list if we do an IM Branded Race
Lanza May 20th France June 25th Switzerland July 30th Maastricht August 6th Hamburg August 13th Sweden Auguast 19th Copenhagen August 20th Vichy August 27th Barcelona October
Other comments aired:
Lanza very early difficult winter training, not very newbie friendly course France done before Switzerland done before Sweden very expensive and not easy to get to Maastricht did not get great reviews from first race
Personal thoughts:
Hamburg would be the latest race I could think about doing, As I am already entered for IM UK as I thought that was the decision I can only transfer once.
At this late time of the year we need a decisive decision not a another short list?
i think we should assume the default decision is Lanza? Unless a decision to the contrary is decided I'll start the thread tomorrow? Even if I'm the only one there (which I won't be) it's better than never ending uncertainty.
Yes, a decision needs to be made and clearly no-one is prepared to make that call. Whatever race is chosen it needs commitment from more than one or two people to make it viable otherwise the Champs 2017 will be a flop
I thought the Champs was a toss up between Lanza and Lakesman so a little surprised that more options are being thrown into the hat to confuse matters further.
As Lanza is on the list I think it should be Champs

The mood at breakfast here in Pirate Central (Hotel Eix) and those pirates here in Mallorca that i could consult was in favour of IM Hamburg next year.
You asked for those of us in Mallorca to make a decision and this seems to be the race all liked and ticked the most boxes for the Pirate Champs 2017.
I will start the new thread tomorrow unless I am shot down in flames.

So has anything been decided at the post race piss up?
Sounds like, unless its Hollywoof throwing in a curve ball, that the decision has been made for IM South Africa!
The year I'm not going long....

yup... but we need a decision, or this whole pirate champs thing is going to die on its arse...
Why does it have to be newbie friendly?
That's what happens when you leave it up to a bunch of pi$$ heads !
Even the Labour party mange to come to a decision.
But liking look of Hamburg ????

I have to admit, I like the sound of Hamburg and it is my preferred option!
(Just my tuppence worth...)

Happy with either of those, as I'll be at both

Well, the unwritten agreement, is that attendees at the champs decide the venue for the following year.
So Hamburg it is.... won't be racing, but will try to get out to support!
I'll be there if I can dependant on cash flow and annual leave availability
