It took two years to write and is still average but if you have time you can read the road to the spine race and its prequel I didn't publish last year.
Javed made it ok and raised loads of dosh for the MRTeams. I believe they also turned out to give him loads of support and local runners piled in to run with him. He did not use the CP,s as s most were closed . When he needed to sleep then warm dry rest was arranged for him. Javed does the really long milage thing; Double Spartathon, Double Thames Ring to name but two.
Two times the Spine take his achievements to a whole new level. The milage is one thing but coping with Winter Pennine weather over that length of time takes a very strong mental attitude and Javed,s ability to just keep on smiling.
Anyone seen many Spine blogs yet? I don't know if people are still too tired to write them or I'm not doing a good job of finding them!
Are you going to be doing a compilation again an?
There's a lot of links getting posted to blogs on the 'Official Spine Group' and 'The Spine Group' facebook pages. I'm trying to bookmark them as they appear and hope/plan to do another complication at some point in the next few weeks. If/when I do I'll post the link here.
Looks like I'll be buying some kit over the next year then...if I get in. Hoping a couple of strong Lakeland finishes, a Dragons Back and a slack handful of mountain ultras is enough to swing it.
Peter Gold on the spine Facebook group has made the most awesome video out of one of those silly 'what does Hitler think' videos, it's utterly brilliant.
You may be able to help, where would you advise is suitable for sleeping? I remember a drain pipe you mentioned but no idea where and struggling to plan a couple of days?
Soon be time for our annual fascination with following little flags on a map! (Or for some trudging through darkness, bogs, mud, and waist-deep snow!!)
Good luck with the drain pipes and all the other aspects of your race, ian. Only remember what happened to Col Gaddafi ...
I notice there is now going to be a summer Spine for wimps?!
Oh dear, I seem to remember my mouth saying in the past that I would only be interested if it was a summer event ...
Ha, Ha Trex................ will look forward to hearing about it. I a, one of the usual "flag watchers", but will miss out, as I'll be on a ski trip. Good luck all.
Pity the summer event is June, a month I can't race due to work commitments. If it were late July or August I would consider it, probably the 108-miler.
Yes, I have! Were it not for June being the busiest time of the year for me at work and unable to have time off I would be seriously tempted by the summer 108-miler.
Don't know when the entries for the summer events closed. No list of entrants on the website.
Sorry to see #115, Tracey W, pull out. I ran with her for a lot of the Chiltern Wonderland 50. She did the Centurionrunning double grand slam of 4 x 50s and 4 x 100s in 2016.
Video no. 2 shows the tough, almost whiteout conditions!! How more people didn't go off route I don't know.

Ohh MM I'll have a read.
MM: really impresive race report.
Thanks for sharing and congrats for the 2016.
Hope Javed is OK. He went straight by the CPs at Alston and Hebden. Obviously has got his own crew so no need to to go off the the PW to those CPs!

Madman, just finished reading your report. Really enjoyed it and congratulations on smashing the Challenger second time round.

The impact of stress hormones is a subject all us Ultra Runners should be aware of.
Trust you are running again in 2017.

Working on updating my earlier blog on sleeping issues . The drain pipe is under one of the major road crossings ( the A67 it think).
And yes we are talking about sleeping in drain pipes!

What distance are you doing, sean? Don't forget your thermals. We'll be thinking of you.
Big entry this year in all the categories. I make it 229, although there might be some DNSs. No wonder there is a staggered start.
Pity the summer event is June, a month I can't race due to work commitments. If it were late July or August I would consider it, probably the 108-miler.
All the best, ian b.
Watching the dots now- the main race hasn't started yet, but the challengers are underway- hypnotic, isn't it?
Challengers started at 0800, MRT Spiners started at 1200.
There seem to be a lot of dots to follow this year?!
2C and pouring with rain at the moment ...
Can't see ian on the start list. He must be there somewhere. Terrible wet conditions out there - I see some have elected not to start yet.
Can't see Ian in the List did say he was ill with a cold, might be supporting instead this year as a result?
Loving watching the dots.
Knowing how tricky the conditions are, sad to see the odd runner doing a me and doing their knee in going up Kinder, two did it this year
Have you seen they are doing the summer spine as well this year starting 24th June.
Yes, I have! Were it not for June being the busiest time of the year for me at work and unable to have time off I would be seriously tempted by the summer 108-miler.
