Bluetooth headphones for running?

Hi all

Does anyone have any recommendations for decent, inexpensive headphones for running?  I use some over-ear wired Philips and I have to keep pushing the ear buds back in my ears throughout my runs.

I tried the standard apple buds a while back and they just fell out as soon as I started running, so the overear support bar really helped...I still find it annoying having to push them back in every few minutes though.

As my phone contract is almost up I'll be getting an iphone 7, so my options are really just limited to wireless headphones now...

  • Was going to recommend Yurbuds (the ones with the over ear bit as well). Normal Yurbuds seem to be ok for most but I must have odd ears and they still fell out every now and again. The ones with over ear (Focus 400 I think) are the first that I've found comfortable (no irritation even after 5 hours running) and completely stable (no poking back in every few minutes). Sound is ok too (allows sounds from outside in).

They do a Liberty wireless model. Not sure how this compares to Focus model tho.

Ridiculous re iphone 7 and removing headphone socket!!

(I bought a cheap ebay ipod shuffle for sounds on the move.)

  • Plantronics Backbeat have been good for me. They dont move but do get a bit sweaty after a few hours.
  • Thanks!  Looked at the Yurbud Focus 400s but they aren't wireless.

Read lots of reviews on the plantronics backbeat and ordered a set in lime green today....hope they're as good as the reviews suggest image

  • How were the headphones?  I am looking to get some new wireless ones and wondering which are the best.

  • I've got the Phillips ones as described and kept falling out before I realised I didn't have them on right!

    I have these http://www.jabra.co.uk/sports-headphones/jabra-sport-plus
    and they work fine.
Sweat and water resistant and they stay in my ears!
Quality is fine for running and battery is about 3 hours.
They may be discontinued now and replaced by more expensive versions but I'm sure you can pick them up online somewhere for around £50?

    Hi
I've tried numerous earphones/headphones over the past few months (inc some Bluetooth)
Tried the normal Apple earpods but with my strange ears they drop out after a few minutes.
Tried some wired Yurbuds and whilst they stayed in really well they irritated my ears something rotten on decent length run (10 mile +) and the remote on the cable was a bit hit and miss
Tried some Beats Bluetooth but the cable bounce just did my head in, as did a pair of Phillips sports bluetooth earphones.
So in desperation ordered a pair of Budlok silicone wings for the apple earpods and they are by far the best (for me at least). snug fit, comfortable and the Apple earpods are actually not a bad sound quality for bog standard earphones. Haven't fell out once on big runs and no irritation.
If you're getting a Iphone7 then the supplied earpods will have the lightning connector and an adaptor for normal ear/headphones.
  • Have you considered custom-eartips? Had some made for my earphones. Fit like a glove and consequently never fallen out since.

Does mean a trip down to your local audiologist to get the impressions made, and they're not cheap at £180. Should last me a good few years though!
  • I bought "cheetah mpow" from amazon and work great for only £15!
  • Jabra pulse. Not cheap but they stay in position, provide good sound and measure accurate HR.
  • Dr Dre Beats Studio wireless or Solo 3. Seinheisser and Sony have plenty of wireless options too.
  • Had a pair of Mpow Swift Bluetooth 4.0 Wireless Earphones for over a year now. 15 quid on Amazon. Great battery life (6+hrs), great sound, work well. Black buds with lime green cord and details. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bluetooth-Headphones-Mpow-Earphones-Hands-free-Sport-Yellow/dp/B00OK5BELU/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1505320562&sr=1-3&keywords=bluetooth+earphones+mpow

  • Hi all - does anyone have any recent opinions on the Plantronics BackBeat Fit headphones?

I also brought a pari of Cheetah Mpow in September 2017 from Amazon and they were my favourite design by far. But they broke after a few months (simply stopped powering on and charging one day), were replaced under warranty, and they lasted less than a month - same problem. Seller then offered me me a 70% refund which I accepted. For £15 I guess you get what you pay for. This is why I'm now willing to pay a bit more in the hope that they will have a bit more durability and longevity behind them. The Plantronic BackBeat Fit seem to replicate the Mpow design but around the £80-£100 bracket.

  • I’ve had my BackBeats for over 3 years now. Used every day in all weathers, and they’re still working great.  :)

Thats a good enough answer for me!

I was browsing Argos and they sell what appears to be 2 differing versions - standard and 'R'? The latter are £10 more expensive (for red colour) £89.99 vs £99.99. I find this a little strange as I can't see any indication of differing models on Amazon or Plantronics official site.

Just want to ensure I'm purchasing the best and most up to date model.

  • I've got a pair on Bose Soundsport BT headphones and while they sound great and have some nice features I'm not convinced that they are going to last years of hammer and I can't help feeling that I've been taken round the corner for £140. I'll probably buy a couple of pairs of cheap ones when the Bose go to Silicon Heaven.

The ones that I'd never touch are the newer ones without any connecting wire that are bound to bounce into a peat bog on the first run.
  • Has anyone tried Aftershokz Trekz Titanium Running Headphones? Cheers
  • Can someone please help me understand the difference between these two?

    and

One being £109.99 and the other £79.99. Are they simply newer models the former vs the latter?

The initial paragraph description of the first pair seems to suggest they have a superior spec when compared to the second pair ie. faster battery charging & better waterproofing. Other than that, it's just cosmetic.

Thanks! Amazon are selling the first pair same price as Argos are selling the second. Seems like a no brainer to snap these up?

Bought a pair this weekend. Only ran in them twice so far  - a 7 miler and 10 miler today in the rain - and I have to say I'm impressed so far.  Sound quality is better than I was expecting (certainly far better than the single wired headphone I used to run with) and you can obviously still hear the outside world. Will be interested to see how they stand up to a few more miles but seem rugged enough.
  • Best running headphones I've had were a cheap pair of Philips with the earhooks. They lasted for years (literally).

They're wired, but I found if I put my player in a back pocket and led the cable down my back, I never noticed it.

I'm currently pulling my hair out trying to find bluetooth in ear headphones as I just can't get any that sound okay. I've been trying to find some with noise cancellation (for the gym, not running) but just can't find what I want.

Personally I never fancied running with my iPhone 7 and prefer a smaller player that I wouldn't be too upset if I lost or broke. I use a tiny Sandisk clip player that takes SD cards up to 32Gb and cost about £20. It avoids the possibility of an awkward discussion with my boss as to just how I broke my iPhone....

Even in the gym I use an old Blackberry as it can be expanded with an SD card.

Had the aftershokz for nearly a year. Great for running, and cycling on the turbo trainer in the garage. You can hear everything around you so they are really safe. Charge lasts for ages. Only slight negative is the quality of the sound on a telephone call, then again maybe I should stop running when I am on the telephone!
  • If you like beats by dre style earbuds but don't want to pay the price, you could check out HBUDS on amazon.

I've got some, and unfortunately they don't stay in my ears very well compared to Avantree Sacool Pro and Mpow earbuds I've had in the past where the cord goes back over the ear.
  • Wonderful post! keep it up!

  • Hi, having read a few reviews I saw a great deal at Costco for the AfterShokz Trekz Titanium Headphones others have mentioned above. Only used them for a couple of runs, but so far I'm impressed.

I will suggest aftershok any day. Awesome headphones for runners. Also if someone interested I do sell them . AIR for 70$ and titanium for 50$. Brand new in box. Not to mention that they cost 170$ in any shop so this is awesome deal for any runner.
  • I've heard good reviews for the EarPods and IIRC you can return them if they don't suit you
  • What are the EarPods and IIRC you are referring to?
  • exactly what am looking for, I use Bose headsets but they are getting v dirty with sweat etc
