    Here's some data for me:

With recent HM time of 73:24, McMillan predicts a 2:34 marathon. HM was windy and somewhat hilly too so potentially could've been faster.

However, in the 10 weeks before taper I averaged just under 55mpw and in the 6 weeks prior to that I averaged only 25mpw so the concern is that my endurance isn't great and I'll struggle at the end, with potential for a big blow out. As mentioned previously I've done very few long runs, with the longest 6 being - 22, 17, 15, 15 and 2x HM races. I've pinned my hopes on my big double days in which I've run about 9 miles at lunch (sometimes with 3ish MP) and a track session or equivalent in the evening. I've done this 7 times over the last 10 weeks, with the longest of these days at 23 miles.

Plan is to set out at 6m/mile which would bring me home in 2:37, however my prediction is 2:39.

    Can't wait.
  • Tommo - very funny, made me laugh out loud. I would love to see a picture of Ollie, there's no way he can be as attractive as me. 4.33 might be cutting it a bit fine!

Millsy - glad to hear the lurgy is clearing up.

Muddy - sounds like you're in excellent shape. Shame we're not off the same start as would've been good to have some company early doors - think we might set off at a similar pace. You're on FGFA though right? Hopefully might see you out there.

Tom - Looking very promising mate, I certainly won't be seeing you until at least the finish!

Massage last night has left the pins in bits but I know they'll recover. 6 really easy miles with the snorkel this morning. An all time weight PB of 11 stone 0 (!) - well the lowest since I was 5 years old anyway. Feeling ready to rock.

I've posted the list for the weekend below in case people want to alter their targets before people start predicting. Also, add your bib numbers so people can track/stalk..

    Some Data for FMLers:

HM time of 1:13:06 back in February on a flat, fast course in perfect conditions.

Since then another HM saw me run 1:15xx and then a 20 mile race the following week in 2:02xx. Had excuses for slightly lacklustre performances as they came shortly after I had been on antibiotics for a nasty infection I had in my armpit so wasn't feeling great.

Training has gone well, I have been injury free for the duration of the 18 week programme and have run 9 20 mile + runs. I'm going to be setting off at 6m/m pace but I'm still very concerned that my lack of experience at this distance (only my second marathon) will count against me in the latter stages. I struggled in the last 6 miles in Manchester so confidence isn't very high regarding my endurance. I would love to run 2:38/2:39 but I fear it will be more like 2:41/2:42 on the day. So I'm going to put 2:41 as my prediction.

All the best as you're all tapering – for me tapering needs more luck than the race. Won't be running Sunday but will be popping out to watch from around 23 miles. Will make note of race numbers. Expecting some big times all round from you lot.

With a serious bout of fomo, went out for 15 miles last night to see what was in the tank, having not run for 5 weeks. The answer: nothing.

I'm guessing I'll see some of you in Abingdon.

Training has been ok. I missed 2 weeks due to a peroneal foot injury. Then I had a bad cold virus which kept coming back and meant I had to pull out halfway through Reading HM. I then went into a bad tummy bug last week so all in all not great prep. But when I've been running I've felt great and strong. I ran 20:07 at parkrun 2 weeks ago which was a PB and my long runs have all been really good and comfortable. Even MP runs went quite well. I've gone for 3:28 because whilst I'm going to start at 3:25 pace I'm not sure I'll be fully recovered from this lastest virus to be able to hold that the whole way round.

Alan - Took the words out of my mouth. Tom's been much more consistent than me, run much further and heaps of long runs, run a faster HM but is predicting 2 min slower. Prime SBC choice. If it weren't for this recent injury I reckon you would've still been on for a cracking time. Looking forward to seeing how you go next time around.

AWC - A bit low on confidence by the sound of it but running well with a solid 5k PB, another potential SBC if you're all clear of the virus by Sunday.

Joe - Any funny looks this morning? Light and fit and with sandbagging form in the past.

    Decisions, decisions.

Shame it didn't work out dct.

If anyone is in touch with people on the list who don't post regularly on this thread could you see if they want to update their times and join in if they like (nodding towards Muddy)? I figure if we don't have a prediction in the next couple of days it might be best to scratch them from the table.

Still missing predictions from Trev and Macca backing up from Brighton and Paris and nothing from Tommo81, unless I've missed it.

Hello everyone. I have been vaguely keeping up with this thread but have not been posting as I've not been following P&D. However, as I am still on the list, I thought I should post an update: I don't believe in setting target times early as I think you just do the training and then run to the best of your ability/fitness on the day (based on what you judge this to be a few weeks before the race) so that's why I didn't put one. So here is my running history: I am 35 years old, hovering somewhere between 8.5 and 9 stone, and have been running since I was about 26. I've done 5 marathons since 2013 in 3:06, 2:56, 2:52, 2:58 and 2:53. I'm not really that fit this year, though, so I'm planning to run London in 3:29, with a 'B' target of 'don't give a shit'/3:49. It's going to be awesome.

Btw I don't think Madbee is running.
  • JooliganJooligan ✭✭✭
Having seen Madbee's Strava I'd be astounded to see her on the start line for VLM.
Tom's determination to secure SBC from HA & JB had me laughing out loud.

I'm sticking with the 2:59 goal although it's looking a lot less likely 4 days out than it was 3 weeks ago. Only done 5 20M runs & 3 were in December but have done lots of double/triple days with well over 20M & several single runs in the 15-20 range.
Race Number 28604. I'm on the GFA start (Green) & will be sporting my blue MIND vest with JULES on, black shorts & red Bostons + shades.
  • Tommo - I've bought a budget version of the flipbelt for a tenner. I wore it on a short run yesterday with no problems. I have the same habit of wasting money on false economies..
  • MillsyMillsy ✭✭✭
Some nice predictions coming through. I think I'll stick with 2:54 (2:53:59)
recebt form says I'm in slightly better shape than 2015 but anything faster seems a bit too close to my HM pace for comfort. Aim is to hit 1/2 way in 1:26:30 (exactly as 2015) but hope my increased mileage will enable me to hang on better in the second half.
I'll be in a blue Salisbury vest with "Millsy" on the front. Will be heading straight to the Red Lion to rehydrate for a couple of hours afterwards.

Tommo - Only just saw your question about carrying gels. This is my method. I can easily fit 2 in each hand and find the weight is not significant. Never had a problem with them falling out and they're in your hand ready to go with no faf. The SIS gels are much bulkier and not as good this way. I use Wiggle gels which are much smaller for the same kcal.

  • Have done some list editing to help with spotting fellow P&Der's.

HA - plenty of funny looks this morning as always. Love the budget gel holder. Just what I'd expect from you.

I'll be drinking in the Roundhouse near convent garden afterwards if anyone's at a loose end and fancy a beer or two.

I've not posted for a while as I haven't really done any running this year, I still fancy running this weekend though, just for a laugh, I didn't enter though.

What else has made me laugh I hear you cry? Well Tom's prediction for a start. Whilst Joe has largely grown out of his sandbaggery Tom remains resolute and without peers.

HA - I reckon you'll look sillier than Joe will with those bondage gel holders.

Good luck to all those running London, I should have time to get my predictions in this time, it's going to hurt watching on the telly this year. I hope to be back next time, I need to check how long the GFA time lasts.

  • Just added my start and a proper guess at finish time of 2.47 which I think aligns with Joe's prediction. Joe - I don't know about FGFA as I got in through the club system - all I know is it's the blue start.

HA77 - I've put in Lou Diamonds prediction from another thread. We've not had sight nor sound of Bluemoon86 since injury pre- xc county champs in early January :(

  • HA77HA77 ✭✭✭
Cheers Muddy. I'll put Lou down as 2:55 unless I hear otherwise.

Joe - I'm not sure whether I should be offended because you think I'm tight or flattered because you know me so well. I'm even too tight to buy the rubber bands and just take them from work.

Reg - That's rich considering how much triathletes love lycra and ridiculous bits of kit. Hope you're back running soon.

  • I just put mine in my pocket but my marathon shorts do have elastic pouches to carry gels.

HA what happens when you want to  go to pick a drink up from the drink station or high five the kids supporting?

  • Reg WandReg Wand ✭✭✭
Thanks HA, I am back running but early days. I'm not really a proper triathlete, I don't turn up to running races in lycra, calf guards, glasses and a hat.

I used pockets for my gels last year. One good thing about it is as you eat them it becomes less annoying, it's something to look forwards to, a small victory as you enter those final miles.

  • Updated above.

    I ran the 7m w 2@MP today with the 2 @ just under 6:40pace - got to love a tryer  :D

Training is probably irrelevant for me, its more about how much is left in my legs after Paris.  I've done a few multi marathons so not completely unknown territory but I wont really know until mile 18 I should think, by which time the dye will be cast.
  • SorequadsSorequads ✭✭✭

Pushing things a bit, Tommo? I admire your calmness.

Good detail, muddy! I'll fence sit for a bit and see where the money goes. Tom looks set to be a strong favourite for captain. Excellent training consistency.

Impressive Bear Grylls style gel carrying HA.

Reg - I saw a photo of me from 2012 the other day. It was at a 10k, but in the height of my tri days. Long socks, visor and wrist bands. Oh dear, oh dear.

7 with 2 today. First a bit punchy in 6:14, second about correct HR and 6:29. Plan on the day will be to ease into it and get up to speed using the freebie downhill mile 4. I'm number 33319, will be in a light purple Almost Athletes vest and am going off the Red GFGA start. I predict 2:52. I'd be bloody delighted with this.

  • JooliganJooligan ✭✭✭
Did my 7 with 2 today. Bit quick 0.5M pace splits were 6:48, 6:38, 6:38, 6:28 so averaged 6:38 up a 1% incline with an uneven surface, except the last 0.5M which was tarmac, & in my old heavier Sonics rather than my lightweight bouncy Bostons. HR was far too high (165bpm) to maintain that pace over 26.2 though.
  • HA77HA77 ✭✭✭
FBT - I can still grab a drink with the gels in situ and the kids just have to wait until I've got a free hand, which should be after 5 miles this time. There may be better ways but I've not felt any reason to change. The only shorts I've had have either had a tiny pocket at the front or a big one at the back, which I find a pain to get things out of at speed and tend to drop things out of.

Macca - Great to see that sub 3 target. Like your style.

SQ - Added your number to the list. Glad that you've seen the error of your lycra clad ways.

Plan to do 5-6 miles with a few dialed back strides at lunch

    Morning all.

Some great targets being posted-love it Macca, I reckon you are going to have a fantastic race!

Did 6 miles with some strides first thing and now just about to set off to London!!

Like Lit. I was reluctant to post a time early on. The plan is to go out at 6:40m/m pace and see what happens. I ran Wokingham HM around 81 mins but haven't done anything near the mileage of someone like Spoons (the race predictor of a 2h50m marathon off my HM time is, frankly, comical!) I'm tempted to draft off Millsy for 26 miles ;) but I do think to <55 mile P&D plan will tell in the end.

HA77 - I love that lo-fi solution! That is exactly my kind of thing after having fashioned a hand glove for carrying Shot Bloks from an old sock last year as well as making a headband from cutting up an old tech-T. I must ask - in those pictures are you designing a Tardis on the paper?

Quote of the day from Tom13: "I fear it will be more like 2:41/2:42 on the day". :'(:D

Who is carb-loading from today? I'm not really feeling it this year after having had 4-day carb load last week - otherwise known as Easter.
  • Some good MP runs being laid down - will be interesting to see whose MP runs are closest to their actual pace on the day? Maybe we should revisit next week..

Reg - good to see you getting back into the swing of things - hope it's not too difficult to follow on Sunday - you'll be back before you know it though. Pretty sure your GFA time will still count for next year as well.

Muddy - shame we're off separate starts, sounds like we're well matched at the moment. you going out @ 2.45 despite the 2.47 target or playing it by ear? What you wearing, I'll look out for you after we've merged.

Tom - still not back at school? you staying down in London until Monday then? can't wait for your 2.29.

Tommo - draft off Millsy and then do him in a sprint finish at the end I reckon.

Re; carb loading - I'm doing a mini-depletion atm, won't be eating any carbs until tomorrow. Then I'm just going to eat what I normally eat - not too much, it's a little risky but I want to try and just eat normally and see what happens.

5 miles this morning. Still very sore from Tuesdays massage.

Looking forward to a sprint finish with Tommo down the Mall!

got out for a brisk 6.5 miles with the club last night. Legs felt like lead at the start but loosened up nicely towards the end.

Carb loading will will start tonight and travelling up to London tomorrow morning. Looking at doing the Southwark parkrun on Saturday. Looking at their roster Paul Martilleti is giving out finish tokens.
