Well I managed a ride and run today, the first one in 2weeks since I pulled my hamstring so at least I know I will give this a go. see you all on Wednesday
Since my last post wind forecast has changed and is much more agreeable than the 30mph+ gusts originally we were going to have!
I've decided to wear my Pirates Monaco on the run. Ive had it ages but never had the courage to wear it at a race but think I'm going to need all the help I can get. Last run this morning, felt awful!
Bungles – good idea re the top! Just checked back through the thread (not for
the first time!) I think we are on the same flight, 6:10 EasyJet from Gatwick
on Thursday morning and both staying at Princes Ico?
When placing my last minute Wiggle order (which included
some extra CO2 for whoever wanted it) I decided to treat myself to some new brake blocks. It took me all of 5 minutes to switch them
over and I was feeling very pleased with myself until I went out for a test ride,
hit the brakes and had the most horrendous screeching I’ve ever heard from bike
brakes! After a bit of fiddling about I
think it is better but I think I might have to revert to the old ones else I could
be putting out some pretty horrendous noises on the downhills! Why are the simple things never simple!
So re registration trip over to LaSanta. I have to be back to pick up my hire bike by 4pm so for those I have on the list for the trip what sort of time were you guys thinking?
SP what sort of time do you think you will arrive in PdC?
I land at 10:20 so hope to be in Princess Ico (next to Club Oceano) and ready to leave by midday. If that is too late though then don't wait for me, more important that you get your bike sorted!
Phil - I'm sure you know / tried this already, but in case you don't- make sure you aren't placing the blocks exactly parallel to the rim. Aim the blocks so that they are angled slightly away from the rim (only slightly - should still make full contact when you brake hard) and you should get rid of the squeal unless you've got a mis-match of the material.
When are we going over to CLS? Thursday wasn't it. We can meet about 12 and easily be back by 2. There wasn't a huge amount to see over there last year.
Works with me. Assuming plane is on time I'll hopefully be a bit before 12.
Is there wifi etc at Club Oceano, that'd be handy!
DR - thanks for the advice, yep, I saw that on a few youtube videos. I went out for a short ride this eve and albeit only 2 miles I went as fast as I could several times and put brakes on different degrees of tightness and luckily, fingers crossed, the screach seems to have gone!
On a late decision I will be doing some warm weather "training' in Lanzarote later this week. I look forward to watching others exercise at the weekend and meeting up with pirates.

52/36 11/28 should be fine, TT is fine for this course
Depending on weight of bike and box you may struggle with other things like wettie, bike shoes, run shoes, bike hat etc
You'll need suncream... poss worth thinking about salt tabs or similar as you'll sweat lots!.... plus plenty of electrolyte sources/tabs...
that's the ratio I used on my TT last year with no problems...
There are plenty of taxis at the airport taxi rank that can take bike boxes without booking... its only a few mins from there to the hotel in PdC
