I'm recently changed to an Android phone and am currently using Google Fit to track my runs. Which Android app do you use and which features do you find most useful? Thanks
One thing that (I think) sets Runkeeper apart from other apps is the spoken prompts for training sessions.
At the moment I'm following a sub 2hr HM program and although I don't run with headphones for straight runs (7 miles steady for example), for something like 5 miles steady, 1 mile fast, 2 minutes slow, 1 miles fast etc it's really, really neat that you can have the lady or man saying "beep - next mile fast" or whatever.
Maybe other apps do this, but nothing that I have tried does.
Strava is a great community (facebook for runners). The 'sections' is a great feature where you can run against other athletes who have run the same routes as you in the past.
I pay for the premium service, but you get everything you need on the free version (I just pay because I think it is so good and worth the £40 a year to invest in future features).

The "segments" feature of Strava is really useful, because you can, as Jake mentions in his above post, compare your times over the same segments with other runners. I find the free version to be adequate for my needs. Strava also enables you to enter challenges and join clubs. I'm a bit of a dinosaur regarding technology, but have found Strava to be quite straight forward to operate.
This was a question i wanted to ask. Personally I wanted an app that could connect to a heart rate monitor. Beep at me when im in a zone (ie 85% max) and keep me in that zone say for 30s before beeping again. Basically for sprint hiit training. Any ideas.
I wouldn't do this with a phone. You need a Garmin with a heart rate monitor- ideally a chest strap as the wrist monitors are not overly accurate. Forerunner watches are some of the best in the Garmin range.

Phones can also connect to HR monitors (my phone has ANT+ built in).
Ive actually brought a tomtom runner 2 cardio music. This seems to tick the boxes and has interval training. I brought it from tomtom outlet store it seemed to have quite a big discount.
Sounds like a good option. Don't forget to go in to Strava and add your tomtom account so your data automatically synchs with your profile... You will then be able to compare your stats against friends and other runners.

Thanks Jake, I was wondering if I could upload the data to more than just a tomtom app so that answers that question. A friend of mine also gave the same advice. Im particularly interested in recovery rates as a measure of fitness. Are there other tomtom friendly apps or sites that can get at that data? I haven't tried the tomtom app yet so it might well have this function.

Hi Bally- there are lots of apps out there you can sync your GPS data with- run keeper, Nike+, but you will find Strava to have the best community and all the stats you need.

Hi there, I'm new here. I use the Nike+ Run Club app. Very accurate mapping and the audio feedback gives you your splits every mile and tells you if a workout has paused, because you've stopped. There also challenges to get you motivated and get to unlock achievements as well. You can listen to you music in another app as well, the feedback fades it temporarily.
I used to use the Nike+ Run Club app, but since i discovered Strava I havent look back and wished Id used it sooner. Great App, and really good to see which segments you improve on for runs and compare with locals in the area.

They also have tested lots of apps and have rated them according to how well they fit their thoughts on quality data.

On the iPhone it sucks too?
