Hi Pete.  So that must have been 0100 for you when entries opened??  Great job.

I'm in. I wasn't sure I would be. There was a lot of angry people posting on the facebook page. But I honestly wasn't worried If I got a place today or not. I was nearly 100% sure I'd get one via a transfer eventually... There are loads that become available in August/September. One post I saw was complaining he hadn't got in for the fourth year running....

Thought about it for about 10secs before sticking to my original plan and getting a transfer place if I want one/can get one next year..

I can imagine for some people the timing of it being 7am might have made it more awkward to be online than it being in the the middle of the night, but entry date and time is never going to suit everybody.

(Eta mr panad got in last week on a spit sample, so will be there supporting if not running  )

I'm in :-)  to break from the chorus of complaints about the sign up process I thought it was very good. The queuing system was much better than hitting refresh page 1000 times. It was almost fun :-) I basically joined the queue and got my estimated registration time. Drove my daughter to school got home picked up my phone and there was the registration form waiting to be completed. No stress or worry involved. I'm turning 40 in 2018 so I plan to give it everything. I've got 3 target marathons ~ Brighton (15 Apr), Warsaw (30 Sept) and 8th SNOD!! Really excited already. Training is going well as I focus first on speed and really enjoying the club XC season. Had a good run out today at Luton in the Chiltern league.

Ralph ~ what to say? So sorry mate. But let's be grateful that if the expert is correct in what he is saying (I'm sure he is)  then we should celebrate not commiserate because he is looking out for you, your health and your family. Nothing to stop you seeking a second opinion from a cardiologist that specialises in sport. But this isn't the end. Running is running. And there's so much you can still focus on at all sorts of distances. Get the fun in there and you will be running for years to come...

Cheers UDS! That has made me feel more positive about things.

Like you say i could get a second opinion but i am not sure what that would achieve? I was getting the Ectopic beats (premature ventricular contractions) whilst i was running Snod. Never had them before, or not noticed them whilst running.

I have had the Ectopics quite bad for a few years. Always at rest, and they disappeared with exercise. I was checked out for them a couple of years ago and given the all clear.

I reckon if i had not had the episode of Atrial fibrillation in Aug they would not be concerned, but they are covering their backs.  Cardiologist reckons it could be a slow progression, another might disagree, as i do to a certain extent. Then if i carry on it will be my own fault? Very annoying!

Anyway enough of me, well done to everyone who got there place secured for next year!

I am managing to keep the legs turning over and have started to do some strength work which i am really enjoying. Think i need it as was getting a bit weedy!

Ralph, sorry to hear, but good they're looking after you, stay strong & find something that works for you.

In again for 2018, my 4th SNOD.

Hope everyone has a good Christmas.

what are you all going to do tomorrow night given there’s no marathon to enter??  It’s all a bit strange...
  • Options
    T RexT Rex ✭✭✭
Yes - nothing to stay up for now!

I've found another race which also opens on 1 Jan so I'll enter that one instead.  Not quite the same demand so there shouldn't be too much trauma.

    Oh.... ??
I actually entered Newport Marathon (end of April) today too

Happy new year to everyone on the forum!

Running has ground to a halt over the festive period. Managed a couple of 6 mile plods.
Just seem to be getting back to back colds... Anyone else had this?

I suppose that's why they did the saliva test and questionnaires pre and post snod. Would be good to see the results of that study. Ticker is still playing up a bit, have to wear another monitor for 6 days soon!

Need to get back to some sort of running routine!!

    Hey guys,

    Happy new Year...

Think a lot of people have suffered this Christmas with illness Ralph. I've had a cough and a cold. Now I'm suffering with Acid Reflux with is causing me really bad pain at times and stopped me running for a week. Was hoping to be well under way with training for London by now but I managed a pathetic 5 miles today and felt absolutely terrible. Plenty of time though which is good..

Good luck with Newport Jason, One of my mates has signed up for the that and we're kind of training alongside each other.

Hope you're all training well. Whatever your targets may be for the first half of the year..

    Happy new year!!!

Same thing here. Cough and cold since 21 December now just starting to abate. Also had bad acid reflux for a time with it - got some stuff from the chemist that sorted that bit of the illness. Managed a few runs but nothing mega.

    Managed to get into SNOD!!!

Hmm... me too on the lurgy front. Have had s cold lurking in the background all over the holiday. Major coughing fit for ages after yesterday’s tempo effort in the cold air and awake a good bit of last night with it too. Just annoyance more than anything though. Training going ok otherwise- sun should have melted the ice enough for today’s 16 miler which will give me 80m for the first week of Newport training ?

I've entered Newport too - a no-brainer since it is now my local marathon.  I can even run to the start from home.

I think my plan of doing the SNOD/Dublin double is off - Mrs T Rex and I are going to have to return home on Sunday 28 Oct.  I'm cooking up another plan.  This thread will be the first to know.

I'm managing a 17-mile run commute every Friday along the canal.  Very agreeable.  Catching the train rather than running home as well though.

Hope you're cold free now Ralph & you're able to get a running routine going . Perhaps ear mark a particular race/event which takes your fancy (subject to medical advice)? - nothing like having a target to keep the running mojo and the training going in my opinion. Brought home to me after not having another event to train for last year. I kept the momentum going after Snowdonia and have lined up the Wrexham marathon in March. Just finished week 3 of the 12 week countdown to the race and bagged my 1st 20 miler yesterday and my 2nd successive 61 mile week. What a difference a year makes running wise!

T Rex- I will be relying on your local knowledge for post-race refreshment suggestions then. The commute sounds nice!
    Good luck with Wrexham, JB.

jasond2- Post-race refreshments in Newport?!  Finding that will be the biggest challenge of the day!

Better off coming to my house.  I'll get a few beers in.

SNOD plans taking shape but not quite ready to announce yet.  (Unless I get 12 more likes - so that I can get another badge.)

Some big miles there John! I'm doing the 20 miler at Wrexham... I've got Rhayader the week before too so not sure how the legs will be!

Went out for a plod yesterday and tweaked my hamstring. It's not too bad but definitely a little sore walking.. Never had anything like it happen before.. Anyone any idea how long it might keep me out?

    Thanks Jason.

Big miles for me TR22. Take it easy with the hammie - still early on in marathon training - you won't lose much (if anything) by resting for a bit. I've done the Rhayader 20 - one of the best events I've done - haven't had chance to go back there to do it. I know the Wrexham events organiser - seemed a no-brainer to do that marathon, given its proximity to home & starting time - hopefully home by early/mid afternoon!

Thanks John. Seem to have shaken off the colds and am feeling much more like myself!
Great weekly mileage, like you say a lot has changed in the past year! You were asking me for advice on maf training lol!
Keep putting those weekly totals together and you will be flying.
Watch that hamstring TR22, Give it some rest, ice, and maybe some cross training instead?

I know the elan valley area and have always fancied the Rhayader 20. Good look to you with that one, some good hills i imagine.

Indeed good luck to you all with upcoming races.

I have inskip half in a couple of weeks and signed up for a local 10k race in march. Not expecting too much and also a little bit wary of pushing too hard.

Oh yeah...... looking forward to hearing your plans trex and some great mileage your putting in Jason.

Cheers guys.. Hamstring is a lot better, can put weight on it and i'm pain free when walking.. Tried a little run this morning though and it didn't feel 100% so walked home after half a mile. Was tempted to carry on and see how it reacted... but i'm a little scared of causing any more damage and being back to square one to be honest!

I've done Rhayader twice before. They've actually shortened it this year to a 30k race. So should be easier...in theory.. Yea the hill at the start is a tough one.

T Rex: Winter... hmmm. Not much snow but the temps are a bit much for outdoor activities. We had two days above 32F but now it’ll back to below 0F for a while. Good thing I like pizza. Is that training?

Well, I got to 50 likes but I don't seem to have got a badge for this unlikely achievement.

But it does mean I have to announce now what I'm going to be up to at this year's SNOD marathon.  As promised this thread is the first to hear.

For 2018 I have set myself the challenge of doing the ...
