If it's raining I just get wet, but I've entered my first ultra and there's a compulsory kitlist that includes a waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams. Any recommendations?
You can get a pair of cheap overtrousers - we have some for walking and they're less than £20 - it'd have to be ridiculously bad weather to want to wear them running though -I think it's more in case you get injured and need to keep warmer.
As to jackets - theres some lovely Gore Shakedry jackets that are highly breathable but expensive - and you wouldnt want to snag it or wear a backpack over it. Very light and flimsy.

Or something cheap and cheerful but it will be a bit boil in the bag. Waterproof and breathable is not easy.

As this is compulsory kit then you do need to have them - but I'd just go with cheap as you say yourself - you normally just get wet when running.
