Shorter faster runs

I’m training towards a 10k next month. I’ve done 10k in 1 hour 40 min a week back first ever. I want to improve that time and haven’t got the 1 hour 40 min free much to keep practicing that distance so thinking to practice speed running this month. Example I can run at 1k in 8 min pace for short time so I could work on increasing the time I can run at that speed. Would this help me get a better time on 10k or is it likely I would struggle towards end?

Any training will help you get better. Broadly, the best thing for  you to do at your level is to is to progressively increase the total amount of time you run each week eg move from 3 lots of 40 minutes one week to 3 lots of 45 minutes the next week. You will find it VERY much easier to run more frequently each week if you run aerobically with a high cadence/footfall. OR you could google for a free plan.
