  • Sorry to hear that ADG, I was almost a DNS - had flue then a chest infection... Im not 100% but just about getting back to normal (just still lots of mucus everywhere).

Not done much training, but should be enough to get round in half reasonable time.

Its a shame but i think regarding deferral, you still have to pay the entry fee if you defer to next year. (If it was me i would give my number away to someone, rather than see it go to waste)

not a recent injury, I'm back fit now, hamstring went last summer, then the other one went in December,,,I'm just starting again. Peeved if £75 down the pan.
  • AF2 ~ sorry didn't respond to your question about gels. Tbh I avoid gels. I only use water in training and generally do all my long runs in a fasted state. For the race I will just have what takes my fancy at the time. I do like the cliff shot blocs which I much prefer to gels. I used them in Snowdonia as a treat along the route :-) no idea what Brighton are providing.
  • I believe they have High five gels on course this year, handy as I usually use them anyway.
  • Cheers Stu,  I'm using the high five gels in training. Not sure if I'm any different from taking them but will take them anyway for the race. Really hope the weather improves alright. I'm sick of running in the freezing cold, wind and rain. Managed a 24 mile run on Saturday and even jumped into the local parkrun for the final 3 miles at MP. That's the longest run done for me !!! Under 4 weeks to go now folks !!
  • 24 mile run and park run - thats an ultra in training!!!
    madman
  • Hi All

Has anyone seen information regarding post race massage's?
Last year you were able to pre-book a space for after the race. This year I can only find pre race massage's on Fri and Sat.

    Thanks

Massage - the volunteer page includes Sunday shifts so they are/were available. Maybe they're all booked?

  • Thanks Alan, just emailed them
  • Hi All,

I am also doing Brighton this year and was looking for some advice. I have managed to pick up a slight hip flexor injury which has kept me from running for the last 2 weeks, as such I have missed my last 2 long runs (last long one was 18 miles on 11th March). I have crossed trained during my time off running (including re creating a "long run" on the elliptical machine) but was wondering if anyone had experience of getting injured at this stage of the schedule and how much fitness or conditioning I may have lost? As a bit of background I have completed nine 16 mile + runs in my training including two 20 milers and three 18. I Had been running around 35 miles a weeks and supplementing this with around 2 hours of additional cross training (eliptical). My original aim was to go for around 3:10 (as part of training I completed a 10k race in 38:25 and a 10 mile race in 1:03- The half marathon I entered was a victim of the snow but I think I would have done it in 1:23/4). I have completed 4 marathons previously with a PB of 3:33 (off around 25 miles per week- Half marathon PB of 1:31). Just wondering if you felt my original goal was still achievable or I should back off a bit?

    Thanks!
  • Trev,

Yes , i am in the same boat. I have been ill since start of feb and missed 2 months of running with only a couple of 18milers and a 16 miler. normally run sub 3:15 but hope to run around 3:40 with such little traning. Done that before and providing you are realistic you are fine. Just missing 2 long runs is more of a mental thing than physical. You will surprise yourself.

If i was you and missed a couple of weeks i would aim for a sub 3:15 with a back up plan B of 3:20 or dissaster plan C of 3:30.

I think you have lost very little fitness.

I on the other hand am totally F**ked! but will still get round!

  • Very rarely does your training going exactly to plan and only you can decide whether to change your expectation re target time and pace. But based on what you have said  above Trev84 I would stick with the original plan and just see what happens. You've still done plenty of miles.

Less than 2 weeks to go now! Exciting stuff.
  • Very true Disco Stu...

Thanks Alan, and sorry I'm a proper dufus but where is the spectator app? Looked through emails and website
  • Ha, I'm pretty useless myself!!
Go into Google playstore and download Active Experience. That where the tracker app is.

Not long now folks. I'm currently getting over a sinus infection. Haven't run since Sunday but I suppose better getting sick now than next week!! Hopefully I'll get out tomorrow for an easy run. <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6027274/uploads/editor/ya/yzm785h7mube.png" alt="">

thanks Alan, yes better get the sickness over now, good excuse to spend a day in bed if you ask me.

Flamin garmin is now asking me to update firmware, poor timing chaps - i've only recently got the last one settled down and behaving.  Not going to do it, mustn't do it now, not now, why ask me now?  Aargh I don't like not being on the latest version.
