Grr, every time I go for a run in the evening, I manage to consume a fair amount of midges... Is there a specific time they come out to play? How can I avoid them?
Avon Skin So Soft range. I think it's the pine fragrance. Really, it does work. I used to use it on my horses to get rid of midges.
THey come out to play mainly dusk and dawn (although if you're near water or various flavours of poo, you may get lots of bitey things that fly all day long.
My horses wore these wonderful mesh masks. Made them all look a bit like equine Eminems! One of them used to suffer so badly, he had a whole mesh rug too.
Probably NOT a good look for a runner!
That reminds me, I've always wanted to learnt to fence. Thank you for that.
My route usually takes me past lakes, canals, horses etc. and the only problem I have is dehydration caused by spitting the damn things out!! I might be tempted to try citronella oil but I don't think I will be running in a mask, looking like Darth Vadar on his day off!!!

They cannot cope with bright sunlight or wind, and tend to be most prevalent just after the sun goes down.
A fencing mask is probably your best bet )

Alternatively, a citronella oil?
Fencing mask sounds good - maybe I will start a new running fashion...
